  • I wear some sort of supportive shoe all the time. I even have slippers from an orthopedic shoe store. I have unusual foot and ankle issues though.
  • And I thank you for your effort to keep people from being scammed. I agree with you that there are no magic solutions and to look like what most mean when they say toning or toned, the journey requires good nutrition, appropriate calorie intake and exercise, including strength training.
  • No arguments that you can use calories and be able to eat more calories. Each person has to decide how much exercise he is able to do and whether it is possible to increase the calorie budget significantly through exercise. Every person is in a different place regarding physical ability, time constraints, etc. For example,…
  • Merriam Webster defines toning as exercising to improve muscle tone and defines muscle tone as strength, firmness, or tautness of a part of the body, such as muscles. So toning is, by definition, exercise to increase strength.
  • I think you’ve provided some helpful information; however, clearly the term does have a meaning. You don’t like the usage but attacking the word itself isn’t the best way to communicate your helpful information. You don’t get to be the arbiter of whether a word exists or has meaning. I work with language all the time in my…
  • I think you just have to look at your calorie budget and decide whether you want to spend your calories on that food. My calorie budget is 1290. If I spend a lot of calories on one food, I may be too hungry for the rest of the day. Also, a cheeseburger doesn’t have to be a big cheeseburger. A McDonald’s cheeseburger is 300…
  • I drink Diet Pepsi. I’m not using other “low fat” foods right now as I’m doing almost all my own cooking and so I start from real food ingredients. I’m not snobby about it though. My husband still buys some frozen meals and I’d guess we’re having those once every 2 to three weeks. When I was going into the office instead…
  • I understand that exercise will always burn some calories. I started at a very poor fitness level, which is gradually improving. My weight loss has to be based mostly on reduced intake, but that doesn’t mean that I’m not getting a benefit from exercise. The benefit is better fitness, strength, and stamina. It would be very…
  • I have a real desire to de clutter but I don’t have that much control over my household. My husband has a lot of trouble letting things go. He’s been known to actually take things out of the trash. And they were my things, not his. But we have been able to improve. He really tries.
  • If you have the premium plan, it can be done. Go to premium features and you will find the option to turn off the automatic adjustment for exercise. I’m not commenting on whether it should be done, just noting that it can be done.
  • This came up for me today. My husband bought frozen burger patties snd wants a burger for dinner. I looked at the box. I’ll fix it for him but 410 calories for something that won’t fill me up and that I don’t like too much? No way.
  • Thank you for this helpful post. Focusing on the real purpose of exercise is actually calming. I’d have to work out for hours at my current ability level to burn enough calories to be significant. I am mostly working out to gain strength, stamina, and flexibility, but if it burns a few calories, that’s a bonus. I think…
  • Thanks everyone.
  • I ended up with a .6 pound weight loss. And I feel stronger. Double win. I have a long way to go and I just have to remember that I didn’t get fat and weak in a month or two and it will take time to get lean and strong. It can be discouraging to overthink it. At the rate of .6 per week, it will take 62 weeks to lose my…
  • Interesting discussion. Thank you. I have reflux. Maybe I’ll try it.
  • I have chronic foot and ankle problems, so I’ve worked to find exercise I can do. Look for HASfit on YouTube. They have a variety of seated workouts. You don’t need equipment except for a chair and light hand weights. I started using canned vegetables for the weight and have graduated to 3 pound dumbbells.
  • 5 4 and my initial goal is 150 and then I’ll evaluate. My highest weight was 201.6.
  • P. s . I’m sure yogurt would work too.
  • I love berry smoothies. I measure either a 1/2 cup or 1/4 cup vanilla ice cream, one cup frozen berries, and one cup almond milk and blend. It comes out to 265 calories plus you’re getting the benefit of the fruit.
  • Thank you for asking the question. I learned too.
  • Ninerbuff That’s inspiring. My (surviving) brother has struggled with being underweight for most of his life. At 5’ 11” he has ranged from 135 to 150. He hits his low weights at times of stress. There’s so much emphasis on weight loss that we tend to forget how difficult being underweight is, especially for a man. In…
  • My very healthy and fit son in law does Chloe Ting and he’s drenched after a workout. I don’t know much about it but it sounds like it’s for people who are ready for very intense and advanced workout.
  • I’m 62 and about 40 pounds overweight. In my 20s, I was in a head on car accident and my heel was crushed when the engine came in on me. I had three surgeries soon after the initial injury. I have always had pain in standing and walking plus some balance issues due to a fusion that limits range of motion. In June of 2019,…
  • I’m just chiming in to say you all are brave people. My daughter has gastroparesis. It’s a very difficult condition to deal with. She says what has helped her the most is doing yoga every day. I agree with others who recommended working with your doctor. And accept that all the advice you get from people who don’t have it…
  • Thank you for the responses.
  • I guess what I was asking is if there is a way to make the guess anywhere close to reality. I went in and adjusted to 140, figuring that I’m not doing the most but I’m not barely moving either. This particular workout is designed for seniors and people with mobility issues. I do have mobility issues but I’m going hard at…
  • I’m only about a month in, so I guess we don’t know yet whether my motivation will hold, but I’ve set a goal that is not scale or dress size or appearance based. I want to be able to travel to visit my daughter who lives overseas and walk enough to participate in seeing the world she lives in. That’s more important to me…
  • Excellent! After my husband’s bypass surgery, he added to his walk one mailbox at a time. It’s great that you are setting goals and stepping up to them. Congratulations!
