  • I've been very overweight for many years and couldn't convince myself to start. With everything shutdown from Covid, I realized I had a chance to think really long term. I don't expect to reach my primary goal for over a year and a quarter. But what else do I have to do? So I started Jan 3 and am down 4 pounds. You can do…
  • Welcome to MFP, Carolyn!
  • My trigger was signing up for a cruise next year. Thought about how I could lose just 1 lb per week and be 50 lbs lighter by then! Signed up here and started logging calories. Yep, game changer.
  • Congrats, trekkie! I'm 67, have been retired a few years now. For me, that's what I worked toward my entire career, and it is everything I wanted. I'm on the 1 lb per week plan for the next year, year and a half. I've been very steady at about 60 lbs, maybe 70 lbs overweight for 15 years. This is my first time using…
  • Sorry Maggie, it's above ground level, not above sea level. That is, if the calories are high enough you can't reach them, they don't count! :*

  • Sorry, I didn't mean to come across as being too strict. Just throwing out a suggestion that seemed reasonable to me. I've known people (my niece eats cake frosting from the can) who think it is strictly about calories. I don't think it is, but it is better to start with just that than to not start at all. Hm, I'm still…
  • Yes, it does matter. Eating junk is bad for your health, even if you could lose weight doing so. That's why the tracking wants to know your carbs, fats and protein in addition to the calories. I'm afraid it matters.
  • Hi, I'm David. Brand new to MFP. Last time I was at my goal weight was about 20 years ago. Since then a very sedentary job and lifestyle have taken their toll. Now retired and I want to get more active and lose up to 80 lbs. Goal for now is just 50, though, in about a year. Starting weight: 248 (Jan 3) Goal weight: 175…
  • We're here for you, support and cheering you on. Good luck.

  • Hello, my name is David. Became very sedentary after retiring. I'm trying to get some exercise and want to lose 50 lbs by next year. Just 1 lb per week, should be doable!
