Many years ago when my kid was a homeschooled teen that was his chosen project for the local homeschool science fair. He got nearly everyone in the room to sign it. All the fundie kids and parents, as well as the crunchy granola hippie folks. And most of the neurodivergent homeschoolers too. (ADHD, dyslexic, dyscalcula,…

I couldn’t get a screenshot of it but today I saw a weight loss ad hawking hydrogenated water I weep for humanity

Don’t overlook protein powder. There’s many different types to try.

One more data point Someone in a spousal caregiver group I’m in recently asked about how to deal with a loved one whose dementia is causing them to crave sweets and carbs constantly, causing them to pack on weight, and putting a strain on the grocery budget. It’s a problem I’ve seen discussed off and on over the years I’ve…

Can confirm. Swipe deletes on the apple app. That said? I think there’s a way to adjust the time of entries too. And I have on occasion just added items at 11:55 PM that I actually consumed after midnight, so they’d count on the previous calendar day, as I tend to be a night owl and my schedule is shifted a bit later than…

At the GP’s office today. Got my GLP-1 renewed at the same dose. (fingers crossed the insurance company approves) We discussed this a bit. She also is seeing this effect. People who are merely overweight don’t tend to have that voice in their head nagging them about food. But people who are obese or morbidly obese often…

Pumpkin Spice Cheerios. If you like pumpkin spice and breakfast cereal? THESE ARE AMAZING Get them while they’re still available 10/10 absolutely amazing!

No one is saying otherwise… But if you want to discuss the factors that cause or make chronic illness worse? I really don’t think it’s all about obesity. Because if it were, then skinny people would never have serious health issues. Keep in mind that underweight people are also at higher risk for a variety of health…
-
I’m happy that worked so well for you. These GLP-1 discussions on the forums are filled with people who have tried everything and found it hard or even impossible. It’s not about loving yourself. There does really seem to be something else going on in people who really struggle with being more than merely overweight.
-
My comment is also correct. Even if limiting the discussion to health aspects? As a physically disabled person I can 100% assure you that there are worse things than being obese.
-
OMG over the counter GLP-1 would be an absolute healthcare disaster.
-
Sounds like you’re doing great! An excellent mindset, with good adjustments to your old habits. 100% that is never a good idea. And it’s a constant struggle here on these forums (and other apps’ forums) to get people to see how they are potentially contributing to - at the very least- their own failure at dietary…

Please note OP header is literally “Anything is better than being obese” That is an incredibly toxic point of view that can lead to eating disorders, and often (not always) medical issues caused by healthcare professionals dismissing every symptom as being weight related. Is being overweight associated with negative health…

Maintenance, by definition, means keeping your weight steady.

I’ve been homeless, and lived in my car. My dad died when I was a teen and we struggled financially for years because of medical bills. My mom was very thin because she smoked like a chimney - which eventually resulted in throat cancer, which killed her. I’ve had an unattended miscarriage at four months. I watched my house…

It’s a huge and often academic discussion which would really derail this topic. And, to be quite honest, as a physically disabled person, I’m not really up for it in an open forum, because (reasons) The tl;dr is that eugenics is a philosophy that seeks to create perfect humans through a variety of methods. Someone who…

I’m sorry but it’s very difficult to respond to so many points that aren’t separated by paragraphs. Just a technical point. Can we pick one or two to focus on?
-
In general I agree. My point, which was admittedly not well fleshed out, is that I think that in people who are more than ≈ 40 pounds overweight there is something else happening often in addition to overeating combined with a lack of physical activity. We do see a lot of anecdotal evidence of this in all of these…

Honestly, maintenance is a whole other discussion. There’s definitely people here who can provide advice.

I think treating weight loss as a project with an end date is fine for people who just want to drop ten to twenty five pounds for an upcoming event. Overweight is one thing. Morbidly obese (I don’t like the BMI categories for a bunch of reasons but here there is a useful distinction) is a whole other thing. By “reprogram”…

Uh… There are worse things than being obese.

Coming back to this: The last few days I’ve been mulling over something. I’m about 40 pounds away from my ultimate goal weight. It’s likely going to take months to get there. Even with the GLP-1. It’s really hitting me that once I’ve achieved that goal, I absolutely have to remain in maintenance mode for the rest of my…

Sharing a little discovery I’ve made I like an Equate (Walmart) brand shake for breakfast most mornings. They’re the least expensive, and good enough. I like the diabetic variety because it’s 180 calories. I’m not really a big fan of breakfast, but I really need to consume something. Anyway, recently I’ve been adding a…

Regain of weight is something that happens with every system of weight loss, and should not be used as a reason to avoid taking prescription medication that a medical professional recommends.

But…. Why? Food is not “only there to fuel (your) body” Food, yes, is fuel for the body, but, IMHO, only seeing food in this one limited way is not realistic. I mean, if you want to eat nutritionally complete protein bars, and nothing else? Go for it, I guess. Personally, I prefer a balance of healthy and enjoyable.

These message boards are not usually used by any registered dietitians. We are mostly just regular folks here. If you want to talk to a registered dietitian you should probably make an in person appointment with one who is local to you.
