  • @swimmom_1 Just had my mind blown..... I had previously thought that your loss and that of Sharon´s was too fast and it would make you less likely to keep it off when you get to your goal. I am delighted that you apparently knew more than I did about the subject. The whole video is good but the part that blew my mind…
  • Currently reading the book ¨Fast. Feast. Repeat.¨ Really good book so far, just this morning saw several things I thought might be worth posting about various benefits of Intermittent Fasting, but this one stuck out for me: page 38 We now know that our gut microbiomes are an important part of our immune system´s function…
  • Oct 1 ✅ Exercise: weight lifting, 40 minutes of swimming ✅ Calories ✅ Tracked Passes used this month: 0 Goals: Do the above and continue to learn about MyFitnessPal and what sources of support here work best for me. If you are in another group that is helpful, I would appreciate knowing about it. Also would appreciate…

  • @cory17 My leaky gut and food sensitivities was diagnosed in 2001 by a ¨complementary physician¨ an M.D. who used holistic methods instead of only conventional ones. He did an extensive history with me and put me on some courses of anti-fungal medication, presribed a candida diet (low sugar, avoid processed foods) and…
  • @Ladybug8882021 I am a voracious reader and currently am experimenting with the approach of the last book I read, The Kubrow Keto Fusion Diet, while I am currently reading ¨Fast. Feast. Repeat..¨ The KKFD combines a 12 hour fasting window overnight, then an 8 hour Keto window then a 4 hour period where you can have some…
  • @swimmom_1 Way to go! Doesn´t seem to have slowed down.
  • Hello. I am new to the group. I am from Kansas. I have a long history of extreme ups and downs with my weight and last month I was at my highest weight ever. I am in the process of semi-retiring in order to focus on my health. I am back in a good, determined mindset and have been recording my food daily. I have about 100…
  • @swimmom_1 I am not surprised I could only do 6 minutes. I have 100 pounds yet to lose. For quite awhile I was obese and still relatively fit, but since the knee surgery and pandemic I have become morbidly obese and definitely not fit. Anything out of the water is still affected by that number of extra pounds. Today we did…
  • Thanks for the article. I am currently reading ¨The Diabetes Code¨ by Dr. Jason Fung. Although I am only in the part where he explains metabolism and insulin related things, my understanding is that he promote the fasting for two days a type of fasting for diabetics. My A1C was right below the cutoff for diabetes, so I am…
  • I am just starting working up to it, with a plan to try to get to 16/8 everyday. I had such a huge problem with night eating. For me, doing Time Restricted Eating (eating only between 7 am to 7 pm) is what I am working on now, with plans to gradually expanding the fasting window up to 16 hours daily.
  • Hi Cory! So glad you can join our very new group. Covid really has done a number on many of us. I was starting to get back into working out after having had knee surgery when we went into lock down. @swimmom_1 I did get to the gym today, worked out on weights and also tried the elliptical-- inspired by you. I only lasted 6…
  • @LeeH31 Thank you for that tip. I am so new to the community here I am not even sure how to follow a group. I did go to the page for that group and clicked the star at the top of the page. Is that how you follow a group? Or is there a better way?
  • Hi everyone. I´m Susan. I did not even realize MFP had forums until quite recently. I previously lost a lot of weight (twice) and gained it all back and then some. The second time around during weight loss, I told myself I would need to keep tracking my food for the rest of my life to make sure I didn´t gain it back again.…
  • I have struggled with feeling I have to eat at night and not being able to sleep until I do. I knew that functional medicine doctors often recommend trying to have a 12 hour window of not eating, but I just did not think I could do it. Then I was introduced to the concept of ¨metabolic inflexibility¨ and found articles…
  • @GaleHawkins Thank you for posting those. I am always fascinated by information on tlhe gut microbiome.
  • Thanks Nicole. I just went to check out Eat Like A Bear. One of her tenets, Intermittent Fasting is one of the things I have recently become interested in. I am a voracious reader and up until around 2012 I felt I was familiar with all the basics about weight loss approaches, but this seems to be something that was not…
  • That is impressive. In my best of times, the closest I ever got to that was a 90 minute tennis drill with some serious players--- I thought that workout that burned 900 calories was great. Probably it is the exercise keeping your weight loss from slowing down, don´t you think? With your story of your fracture and how far…
  • Glad you found us. I also feel really clumsy at this. Today I finally realized that there is a Groups tab when I have clicked on Community. For a while there I thought-- Oh no, I lost it. I will never find this group again! But I know that it will get to be an easy habit.
  • I really relate to this. I need too need friends that I feel comfortable with sharing these things. It´s great to see some introverts in online forums like this-- because you can take whatever time you need to reflect and respond when it suits you. Introverts often do very well in written type support groups like this so I…
  • I started my calorie goal high (1920 per day) just to try to start with baby steps, knowing that if I was able to succeed in my goal of getting back in the habit of consistently logging everything I ate, that I could get myself back on track. Last week I lowered the goal to 1500 because my weight loss was so tiny and I…
  • I am also figuring out how to navigate this thing! I was wanting to ask about privacy. Sharon, do you know if this group is set up so that only members can see the posts?
  • Hello. Thank you Sharon for starting this group. My name is Susan. I live in Kansas (middle of the US). I am 57 years old. I am a clinical social worker practicing psychotherapy who is in the process of either retiring or taking a sabbatical because I finally decided my work was interfering with my health and I had to get…
  • Good for you Sharon 7986! It is a huge accomplishment. This is my first attempt at posting here so I don´t really know how it works, but I would be interested in trying such a group. I also am in my 50s and need to lose almost half my body weight. I am at my highest weight ever. Once in my lifetime I lost 75 pounds, and…
