My iPhone “Heath” links to it automatically; but I add my purposeful exercise separately (which then cancels out some of the steps). Steps on iPhone health to MFP doesn’t see to equate to the same calories than if I add it manually as a run in MFP (maybe because it’s running) although I’ve been entering mine as my own…

@durden thanks 😊

Yep agree - I feel there are massive variations in “running” Eg I could run 15 km on the road fairly fast vs 15 km on a difficult trail slower snd MFP might think I’m burning less due to being slower but it’s definitely harder work This is why I hoped a heart rate monitor might give more accuracy but it also seems all over…

@Lietchi This is super helpful thanks I’ve been manually trying to work out if I’m about right across the week but this is much easier 😂

@westrich20940 Thanks And I think combining that im worried if I’m under replacing for runs (the other thread you just saw) plus a pretty low net target , I think to get a sustainable combination, I’ll have to aim a bit higher snd then monitor what happens Thanks for comments! (On both threads!)

Thanks Yes I add exercise calories on top - sorry my description was a bit lazy , but the 1230 or 1510 is the net calories (not counting exercise). I feel like I could cope with about 1400 (net calories) but 1230 has left me Eg hungry and dreaming about food all night!! 😂 I’ve been getting up at 4am because I’m too hungry…

Yeh I think this makes sense. If I do a day of big exercise I don’t necessarily manage to eat all the calories that day. But I function better if I allow myself a bit more the day prior and the day after Otherwise I can be in pretty significant deficit some days which isn’t good for energy levels etc across the week

Yes! I’ve been struggling so much with this! the database figures feel all over the place. There’s also nothing for trail running I can find. And my Garmin, MFP (and Strava) all give massively different numbers even for fairly short runs @gloriawrightcook - I’ve been having the same concern, trying to figure out the…

Thanks @ritzvin Yes this is one of my issues. Same with my twice daily dog bush walks which are on a hilly bush track. I’ll explore the hiking option & may need to accept I’m going to have to do my best guess. I’m worried otherwise I’m underfueling and it may be counterproductive especially as I increase my kms and get…

Dumb comment but I literally don’t know how to estimate the grade. Over here we talk about Eg 10% or 25% grade but if I put a percentage in it gives me an error I assume it’s just supposed to be a number but I don’t know what that is based on
-
Cool thanks. Yes I have same thing with my dog - we walk fast at times but there are a Looooot of periods of stopping and sniffing 😂 Possibly I have to just accept that nothings going to be a perfect estimate and just see what happens with time
-
I know right? The estimates on various things seems wildly off sometimes . same with MFP which has often been more than Strava . I was using Garmin hr mostly because it seemed more able to adjust to different activities with different intensities based on things like hills and trails. But no idea if it’s even vaguely…

Thanks for this. Dumb question- what do I put for grade?
-
@AnnPT77 Yeh I’ve been thinking a bit about this and the tricky zone between trying hard enough and it being counterproductive if I don’t eat enough calories, as you allude to. I think it’s made even harder by the fact that everything is just an estimate. My first few weeks I used MFP to estimate my activity but then was…

Yes you’re correct that it’s estimated calories for 0.7kg versus 1kg loss is the same , as it won’t let me go lower, but 0.7kg is calculating as less calories than 0.5kg which means the current allowed calories must be at least more than 0.5kg weight loss a week. So by logic, in my head it should have been at least 2.5kg…
-
Yes I think I won’t click it! I am losing and predictions of only 0.2kg over 5 weeks are not overly good for my motivation and seem to be weirdly calculated
-
Yes that’s exactly it. If it believes I’ll lose so little from being so diligent it makes you want to try harder but as someone above said, I shouldn’t actually be eating much less than the net calories I already am Thanks for your reply. It helps to know there are others who have equally disliked it!
