Going into a holiday weekend, we usually talk about how we will manage to stay on track surrounded by food, family, and friends. But fit many, holidays are very different. I’ve had many holidays over 69 years that have been full of family. But I’ve had several that were just the 2 of us, and more than I care to remember…

Not my most shining moment today! Yesterday we talked about sweets in the house, and today I proved why I can’t have them. It’s a friend’s birthday tomorrow, and I’m supposed to bring her favorite peanut butter pie for dessert. I need Oreo cookies for the crust, 18 cookies to be exact. Of course you can’t buy 18 cookies.…

@enlightenme3 my sleep habits are similar to yours. I’m up till midnight or beyond, usually fall asleep quickly, mostly sleep about 7 hours, and wake up without an alarm. Other than occasionally getting up to pee, I pretty much sleep through the night. Don’t nap unless I’m sick. This didn’t used to be the case. I used to…

I made it through dinner at Selva Grill last night, and stayed within budget! I order smartly, with double veg instead of risotto, had wine, skipped dessert. Sometimes I think I do better in restaurants than at home. ✅ ✅ ✅ Still 3/3

Ohhh.. do I have a sweet tooth! My grandfather was a honcho with a giant sugar corporation, and my mother grew up in sugar cane country. I was raised on sugar. I’ve heard many family stories about me putting sugar on things like hamburgers. To this day, I still don’t like cottage cheese without (artificial) sugar on it.…

I find when I get those feelings, I would usually reach for cookies, crackers, breads, etc. Sweet and/or salty carbs. Then I want more and more. But lately I’ve realized that if I’m truly hungry, a better choice for me is to have some low fat protein. Skip the bread, and have some meat or cheese. It fills me up better and…

Exercise ✅ Calories ✅ Tracking ✅ Still 3/3 Tonight we have reservations at one of my favorite restaurants. This is going to be tough! I made a decision when I started that one thing I wouldn’t give up is eating dinner out. For the most part I can manage a restaurant menu and still stay within my limits. But this place is…

Lol! It’s my understanding that decision was totally Steve Jobs himself. Just ask Siri, “Siri, what’s 25% of 575?” . My bigger problem isn’t the math, it’s being honest about the serving size. Did I have a half serving or 3/4 of a serving? Or was that 4 ounces or 6 ounces? Alexa, Siri, Cortana, and Google do most of my…

What are you doing to try to lose weight? Calories? Exercise? A specific program? Many here are willing to offer suggestions, but we need to know a little something more first.

Pre planning is almost impossible for me, so pre logging would be a disaster. Three or four nights a week dinner is the fish of the day at a local restaurant. Lunch the next day is the leftovers for yesterday’s dinner special. As much as I intend to stay home and make supper, often after work I just don’t want to cook. So…

We went shopping, then stopped for dinner on the way home. I’m getting pretty good at eating in restaurants and still staying in budget. ✅✅✅

Well, there goes my 3rd pass day! And I still have two more events this month. It was my good friend’s 90th birthday, and we had him over for dinner. I made his favorites. Paella mixto on the grill, and of course, a decadent dessert. The day started fine, until we were outside for an hour, with me tending the grill and…

I also came here from Noom recently. At 68 I started Noom and took off 48 pounds. After the shakeup in Noom, and with an unsatisfactory group, I came here. Wow! The community is so much better here. Now I’m working on another 5-10 pounds, but also finding ways to build strength. Search here for Noom and you will find…

This ⬆️ Log every bite. Every little bite. Every day. Always. I will be 69 next month. Last summer I started tracking my food and exercise. I have taken off 48 pounds, and am right in the middle of my healthy BMI range. I’d like to take off a few more pounds, but I can accept where I am for now.

We had a last minute change in plans, so dinner was not very healthy, but at least still within budget. There were no veggies included. Yesterday was an exception, but I usually have no problem getting in veggies when I cook at home. I easily fill 3/4 of my plate with them, and just have a small serving of protein. I don’t…

A few pounds each week!!! A healthy weight loss is 1/2 to 2 pounds each week. You’re doing great! Your dinners - are you cooking them or eating out? It can be difficult sometimes to track calories if you eat out a lot.

@Lietchi asked some good questions. It’s hard for anyone to give you specifics without more information. How tall are you? How much weight are you trying to lose? Are you just starting on this journey or have you already lost weight and now you are stuck at a temporary plateau? How many are your daily steps? Weights don’t…

Exercise ✅ Calories ✅ Tracking ✅ Still 2/3. Hoping to save my 3rd pass day for a special event

I now have dips in my sides. They are my waist. 🤣 Where exactly are your dips? If it’s further down, where the leg band of your panties is, it’s referred to as hip dip. Many years ago we used to call it saddlebags. They will slowly disappear, but probably be the last thing to go. You have to get to the lower end of your…

I’ve only been here 2 weeks and I’ve never seen all of my Apple Watch exercise come through. I thought it was just something I had to learn to understand. I do a minimum Of 600 exercise calories a day, and MFP only picks up a couple hundred

I’m glad you’re feeling better today. 🌷🌻🌸

Thin isn’t necessarily healthier. Thinner is just thinner. I have a good friend who is thinner than I am. She eats like a proverbial horse. And her diet is stereotypical southern - high in animal fats and salt. But her metabolism runs high and she is very thin. She also has myriad health problems, some, but not all, diet…

Is it the tracking or the calorie limit that’s proving difficult? If your calorie limit is set too low, it will always be a struggle. It could be helpful to raise your limit a bit. Too low will just set yourself up for “failure”. Slow but positive results will help build momentum. 🤗💐

Exercise ✅ Calories ✅ Tracking ✅ Still 2/3 Hump day is over. I’m heading toward the weekend.

I travelled to Paris in November, and we are going back in July. Then to Sevilla in October. Hopefully, Ireland and Greece in 2023. Truthfully, I chose not to track my food while in Paris. I just enjoyed the experience. I figured A week wouldn’t destroy all of my losses, and I dealt with the 2 extra pounds when I got home.…

@dsgallentine I was having the same question - How does my Apple Watch translate into MFP exercise calories? After reading the answer above, I checked how many calories I earned for an hour in the gym this afternoon - 51. Then I went in to my settings, and changed my normal activity from "active" to "lightly active". My…

Exercise - ✅ Calories - ✅ Tracking - ✅ Still 2/3 @victorious55 Great thoughts! I’m saving those to use in my weak moments.

Since I work full time, my days are somewhat scheduled. I rarely go 'off the rails' M-F during the day. What gets me is evenings. So my plan is to under-schedule my meals during the day. Leave as much leeway as I can for the evening - I know I'll use it up later! I like to have a glass of wine (or 2) in the evenings, so I…

I've never had frozen mangoes, but I would think it would work. The texture might be a little different, but the flavor would be the same. Mangoes are everywhere here, so I've never even looked for frozen. LOL about your fruit bat kids! My wife eats mango salsa with a spoon - she doesn't care about the fish under it. I…
