  • I love checking in here to see your progress. Congrats, great step!
  • Wow, you look fantastic and beautiful in that new outfit. Great job, keep it up!
  • I bought some No Bo brand mom jeans at a Walmart this year for under $12 a pair and was shocked to find they fit me. I don't want skinny jeans and am tired of low rise jeans that slide down. I don't care what mom jeans are called, if they fit, they fit. So far the fabric has held up.
  • awesome, congrats!
  • Try to stand aside from your emotional attitudes -- you are not them. They're a habit. You can say no, not today, I am not perfect but I'm getting better. Today I choose to be positive. Today I choose to do something -- a walk, a little exercise -- and tomorrow will do the workout. Also, look at how you plan your day. Pack…
  • @Jthanmyfitnesspal I've worked at this job for about 18 months -- it pays more for my area. This is not a career move, something I'm temporarily doing. Previously, I was an office worker who hiked occasionally and was in good health, but not an athlete. My level of exhaustion depends on the workload, which varies every…
  • I understand what you're saying is true in principle. However, the calorie estimates I found in the MFP database for my activities are astronomical, so I don't use them. Instead, I give myself a 200 calorie burn for 8 hours of low-speed walking, standing, climbing short ladders, stooping, reaching overhead, and crawling…
  • Thanks for your comments. I'd like a rough idea of what I'm burning at work for my own info -- it doesn't have to be completely accurate, and isn't necessary, but I'm curious. The numbers I chose now could be close or wildly off. I'm looking at MFP on my laptop, not an app on my phone, so that explains the different…
  • Thanks for posting those links -- will check them out. There is no moderately active that I can find -- lightly active, active or very active. Right now I chose active. :p I guesstimate my exercise calories and leave a lot on the table because they could be off by a whopping amount. If I'm hungry, I'll eat, otherwise not.
  • Retroguy2000 thanks for your thoughts -- I'll give it a try. Everybody else, thanks for the advice, appreciate it.
  • Thanks, just saw this. Will try the active setting (and maybe do something nuts, like track the amount I lift for a week and see what the average per day looks like).
  • Active gives me 1800 calories a day. Lightly active gives me 1580 calories a day. Both settings are to maintain my current weight. I'm repeating myself, but I guess there is no math formula for the handling-weight aspect of the job. The walking and other movement I could track with a device. I truly wish I could know the…
  • I don't know -- I come home, take aspirin, and lie down. My arms and shoulders hurt for hours.
  • Thanks, pridesabtch and quiksylver296. I still wish there was a formula or device that could measure or calculate the calorie burn to a closer degree. I've already set my profile to active and it doesn't have a setting for moderately active (see the choices below). How would you describe your normal daily activities?…
  • Great job getting back on track, plus your graphic is well done -- thanks for sharing it!
  • Congratulations! I'm an older person, and one of my life regrets is that I didn't take karate when I was younger. Good for you, keep going, great achievement! :)
  • Fast food is made to sell, usually high calorie, loaded with fat and salt for taste, lots of white bread stripped of nutrition, easy to overeat, not good for someone like me trying to control my weight, blood pressure and cholesterol -- plus I object to the way factory farms treat the animals they turn into burgers and…
  • If the Whoppers are candy, the next time you buy a box, stop when you leave the store, open the box and eat one candy on the sidewalk, and pour the rest in a public trashcan. Read the calories etc. on the back and remind yourself, "I am not a trashcan."
  • I don't want to derail the thread, but I hope you will report this to the police immediately, If possible, get a photo of the car tags. Choose another route.
  • Agree with this -- are your Whoppers the giant hamburgers or the candy? Either way, catch yourself craving them or about to buy one and look at your attitude -- you don't have to go with that attitude. You can change gears and walk away. Cravings always go away if you wait them out or do something else.
  • If you're overweight/obese, take pictures of yourself naked, print them, and tape them where you can see them as you go out the door. Same thing with a medical problem -- post the lab work/med info where you can see it and remind yourself you don't want a heart attack. Look up the ingredients in a Whopper. Go on YouTube or…
  • Stand back from your thoughts and feelings that crave high calorie food. They are not the whole of you. Give yourself positive messages. "I'm going to treat myself better for one day." "Not now, not today." "Walk away -- I'm going to have the food I prepared." "I can do this for one day." Or other positive messages. You're…
  • Remember, most of the time cravings will go away if you wait them out. I'm a lifelong sugar fiend and for myself, the best route is to eat a little fruit, or have some protein and walk away -- sweets are a trigger food for me. They say that there are two kinds of people, moderators and abstainers. I'm definitely an…
  • I can't answer your question, only throwing another factor into the picture. My neighbor had very high cholesterol. However, her cholesterol pieces were large and didn't "stick" in her blood vessels, so she didn't take statins and had no heart events -- and she lived into her 90s. The size/type of cholesterol is important.
  • Agree, see a doctor to check the basics. I understand about being physically exhausted. I work overnights at a physical job 5 nights a week. You asked how to cook and eat a healthier diet when you don't have energy. You have to change something or everything will stay the same as it is now. Here are some…
  • "Old" person here. When MFP gives the message that you are eating less than the recommended daily requirement, I believe that means you are eating less than 1000 calories a day (correct me if I'm wrong). Your day will still be in your food diary but won't post to the newsfeed. Also, less than 1000/day is way, way too few…
  • Note: I haven't read all the comments. Apologies if someone else said something similar. I would stay with the loss rate you have now. Losing slowly is better for your skin and gives it a chance to catch up. Also, your walking might be giving you some water weight -- our bodies normally retain fluid to heal tiny tears in…
  • Your comeback after serious illness is wonderful. The body is a great healer if we give it a chance. Thumbs up!
  • Excellent, you're doing great!! :)
  • AnnPT77, thank you for the thoughtful response, reminding people to consider both sides of this comment. I'm also glad your health is better. I'm the spouse of a man who dealt with cancer for years and also hiked every day and looked fit most of the time. A few years ago, I lost 35 pounds with the help of MFP and a…
