  • Thanks to all those encouraging the consumption of chocolate - my type of advice :-)
  • You are probably very right but the problem is I don't like rice and cannot stand wholemeal pasta!! I only like the white stuff - bread, wraps, white pasta, cakes and scones - so really prefer to avoid! Am not cutting out carbs - I still will eat Bran flakes for breakfast, Ryvita and plenty of fruit. Perhaps some wholemeal…
  • anyone?
  • This! I think graze is a gimmick, personally. If you are committed to eating more healthy foods, then why not buy your nuts, dried fruit etc etc in the supermarket when you do the rest of your shopping and take individual portions with you too work?! I think it is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too expensive and tempting. If I had a…
  • Right now! 36yrs old and 160lb.. not huge, I know but struggling to keep it down. I have such a clear memory about 8 years ago of hitting 140lb and crying, so upset was I that I had put on so much weight. I would KILL to be 140lb now!
  • Thanks guys for all the info - think I am definitely going to increase the calories (Yay!). Just one more thing - does it matter WHAT you eat?! Clearly I will aim to eat healthy foods but I am on the road ALOT with my work - staying in hotels with no facilties to prepare my own food. Sometimes I need to eat "unhealthy"…
  • Thanks for the advice. I think I just need to learn patience - 1/2 lb per week just seems like so little! I suppose I worry as well because I don't have masses of time to work out ( aiming to fit in 4 x 1hr runs/ classes per week) so I think that if I eat above BMR I will just stay the same! Will give it a try though
  • Thanks guys - just to clarify then - my BMR is about 1470. On a day where I don't do any exercise ( I can't work out every day), should I aim to eat 1470 cals or the basic 1200 MFP has set in order to lose 1-2lb per week?! Sorry if I am being a little dumb here :-)
  • If that same fat person overeats "as much pasta as he wants" whilst following the SW plan, then we can safely assume that he was overeating pasta before he started the diet. What he will no longer be overeating, however, is biscuits, chocolate, butter, pizza, burgers, pies, desserts and sandwiches. Hence he loses weight.…

  • Slimming World makes total sense. Why individuals on this site think they know better than the UKs largest and most successful slimming club is baffling arrogance!!! SW far outstrips weightwatchers in the UK. Like all mass-marketed diet plans, however, it has to be based on a a few assumptions. It assumes that those that…

  • I live in Ireland and its great!! I think the trick is to do the leg work yourself and avoid the tour operators - book your flights independently - you should easily be able to get return flights from NYC to any number of European cities for less than $2000 for all of you - easily. Avoid hotels and book an apartment or a…
  • Congratulations on quitting! I am 1 year smoke free now and still working on shifting the 14lb I gained!! It's a fantastic motivator to stay stopped though - if you start smoking again you know you get to keep the weight gain!! And then at some point, you will have to quit again and -hey presto!- another 14 pounds on! I…
  • Her weight is her business. At least she is being positive about your success. You are probably right - she probably is jealous meaning it is hard for her to sound genuine - but at least she is trying and not putting you down. She seems to understand that her issues are her own. Your attitude to her, however, does sound…
  • When I want something yummy yet low cal, I go for crushed up meringues with strawberries, reduced fat squirty cream and a smally amount of dark chocolate grated and sprinkled over the top... just the thing for a sugar craving!
