I am pretty sure sumo wrestlers are considered professional athletes. Lots of athletes would be considered obese based on the BMI scale.

Wow! What a great article!! That explains a lot....

A lot of gyms include a session with a trainer. They will talk with you about your goals and set you up with a plan and show you how to use the equipment properly. If your gym includes this - take advantage of it!! One gym I belonged to would even give me a new routine every 6 to 8 weeks (included with my membership!). Ask…

Lol! "no beiber" Can I add no Taylor Swift?

HAHAHA!! Love this! I sweat like that, too. I do not wear gray work out pants and I amost NEVER wear white shirts. I wear tank tops whenever I can b/c I am always so hot. After working out, I have to PEEL my clothes off me. ick.

I actually had FUN weighing my food when I started. I weighed all kinds of stuff. (I even weighed my 100 proof rum so I could pour it perfect every time. I had to measure out an ounce and then weigh it.) Lol! Then I weighed meat I bought to see if it was close to what the label said. It is really AWESOME for weighing…

Growing babies is such hard work. I had my second c-section 20 months ago. I don't think I exercised for almost a year after my first. With my second, I had a much easier time. Try not to be too discouraged. Take you time. Go slow. If walking isn't hurting you, keep doing that for now. Walking is great! Save zumba for…

Hunger is a fickle thing. If you ignore it, it goes away. Thirst can be disguised as hunger. It is a hard thing to rely on. I agree with the previous posters who suggested nuts, avacado, etc. I like to do a little cheddar cheese with apple slices for snack from time to time. And planning is so important. Plan for three 500…

No. Weight gain during pregnancy is not just baby and just over consumption of calories. It is also placenta, amniotic fluid, water retention, breast milk, and a 50% increase in blood volume.

I put about 2 oz of cranberry juice in my selzter. I like it better than soda. I had to start with more juice than that and sort of work my way down to get used to the selzter. I still can't drink seltzer straight. Yuck!

And... Right now, I am at a much higher weight than I normally hang out at. I am down a bit, but I know if I can lose some more weight, it will help a lot.

Awesome! Thank you all for the replies and suggestions! I had never had a problem with my running shoes before this, so I had never thought to go get fitted! I am going to go get fitted to be sure what I have is appropriate. I suspect I need something with a wee bit more arch support.

Nothing new on race day! Anything you think you will need that day needs to be tried out ahead of time. And if it takes you 3 hours like it does me, and it is a hot day, don't drink just plain water the whole time... omg. Drink something with electrolytes at some point.

1.) first you have to make the decision to DO it. Take away the option to not do it. Sort of like showering and brushing your teeth daily. You just do it - it isn't a decision you make, because you don't give yourself the option to NOT brush your teeth or shower. 2.) get to bed early. If you are getting enough sleep, it is…

We *should* focus on being inclusive! But this video was geared towards a particular audience. It's basically a commercial for exercising. Commercials tend to focus on a target audience. I think a lot of the "real" women arguement, in general, is backlash for being told we all need to be skinny to be "attractive" and…

YES! I have been *trying to lose weight* since the dawn of time. F-that. I am focused on fitness goals and on developing better eating habits. (I do hope the better eating habits will lead to a little weight loss. But one thing at a time.) My goals for 2015 are - run a 5k without taking a walking break - be able to do one…

F***ing periods. Lol! Sometimes, I just have to back off a little for a couple days and do some "easier" workouts. You might want to try a different pill, too. They have so many out there. I always did better on the loser dosage pills.

Lack of self-worth. Lack of self-confience. Hating oneself. Usually it is not just one experience, but a series of experiences or percieved experiences that lead to someone quitting on themselves. Then that one bad experience pushes them over the edge. Some people don't have the drive or the self-confidence to move past…

I thought it was a great comparison. It's about the fear of taking the firsts steps to better oneself. Some people ARE afraid to take those first steps to even walk in place in their own home. For some, going for a walk does require extra - extra inspiration, extra motivation, extra self-confidence. Walking into a gym for…

The OP does exercise. She is getting in shape. She is not using excuses to not work out. And I don't see where she has any issues that require therapy. I am so confused...

I am so confused... I never saw the OP post anything about using excuses to not exercise.

I think that's part of the problem... I think a lot of people DO feel like they need an invitation to get started. I think it is rare for people to get up and just get started - without some sort of spark to get the fires going. And I think those people often look at those that work out and get healthy as metaphorically,…

I, personally, would just log it as cardio. Pushing a stroller is tough work, and definitely great for endurance, but I would not classify it as weight training. I find the hardest part are the down hills - you have to hang on tight. Exhausted just thinking about it.

Ooo!! Good Questions. I think it comes down to self-confidence. A women who is not self-confident and has self-image issues might see a very fit woman and think: "I can never be like her. I cannot do that, I am too ___ (fat, slow, short, etc.). I shouldn't even try b/c I will look stupid." I love seeing fit women and being…

My arms are a little imbalanced... it's 'cause I'm a mom. I hold my 25 lb. son for about an hour a day (though, it is getting less lately) and I have been favoring my left side. I am right handed - so I have my right hand free to conquor the rest of the world. I have started trying to hold him more with my right arm to…

My dr put me on BP meds (atenolol) and I was VERY resistant. I was worried about side effects. The first few days that I took it, I felt pretty loopy. By the third or fourth day, I was ready to call my dr and tell her I couldn't stand it, but it was the weekend and by the time the weekend was over, I felt totally normal. I…

Right now, my goal is running on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Cross training on Tuesday and Thursday. Then I rest on the weekends. I am planning to add a weekend run in eventually. Right now, I am focused on consistency. If I ran every single day, I would totally crash and burn. And if I don't cross train/strength train,…

I had to deal with a similar situation at a previous job. I agree with talking to your manager. I also agree with the suggestion about listening to music. Another thing that worked for me, which is a little new-agey... but can be done right away. I was told once to imagine a ball of happiness light at your midsection. Then…

Try the GU and see. It's not like it will kill you if you take one and don't need it. Lol! I think the Honey Stinger ones taste better. I use them for when I am going to be going for 2 hours or more and then I have one at an hour and about every hour after. So - FOR ME - I find them helpful during a half marathon, b/c it…

Yeah... my local liquor store knows me and my hubby pretty well at this point. No good. I know some people "save" for their treat at the end of the day. I know that each rum and coke I have is 220 calories. A bottle of Arrogant B*stard is 348 calories. And while I feel that my "treats" are worth every darn calorie... It…
