  • Read "Proteinaholic" by Dr. Garth Davis. Eat a plant based diet (as much as possible). These high protein diets drive me crazy. Every person I know who has done it was hungry all the time, constipated, had no energy and felt sick. Then they gained all the weight back. You need to eat real plant food. Not packaged…
  • Oh, and I forgot to mention a plant based diet reverses heart disease! "If the truth be known coronary artery disease is a toothless paper tiger that need never ever exist and if it does exist it need never ever progress."- Dr. Esselstyn
  • I'm sure 84lbs feels daunting right now. But just keep at it. You can do it! Have you thought about a plant based diet? Watch Forks Over Knives (on Netflix or even on YouTube). There are lots of related documentaries that are very helpful. A plant based diet is not really a diet. It's a lifestyle. It's sustainable. And…
  • Have you thought about a plant based diet? I see so many people dieting and eating "food like products." Watch Forks Over Knives to start. I've been eating this way for 4yrs and am 48. I have more energy than people half my age! I also never get sick! Here's a great quote, "Nobody who recommended low fat eating suggested…
  • I brought in some wheat bread and spread an entire avocado on it. Then ate 3 bananas and 16oz of water. Yummy. Work is filled with temptations and the cafe sucks. =( I don't believe in the protein myth.
  • That was my one and only 20 mile run. the last long run before tapering. I did 18 the week before and the week before that and felt great! I used the training plan from marathonrookie.com which worked for me when I trained for half marathons. I am really going to take it easy during the taper, eat well, hydrate, etc. I…
  • OMG! I can't imagine drinking this! I wonder if it helps???
  • This is what I usually do. Not planning on going too fast. I think the training went well. Just know its going to be tough no matter how you look at it! Not sure I am going to try pickle juice even if it's only a couple tablespoons! I have had luck on long runs with HUMA strawberry chia gels, Chia (apple/cinnamon) Warrior…
  • [/quote] I've read a lot of do and don'ts (ie, don't wear anything new, hydrate, etc.)... My last long run I cramped up. I still didn't stop but I was cramped from mile 16-20. Hope that doesn't happen race day. Somebody suggest a few teaspoons of pickle juice for cramping. Ever heard of that?
  • I did my last long run (20) last week and have only 2 weeks to taper. My right hip muscle is the only thing sore. Am icing and using Advil now. Hoping for the best. It doesn't hurt when running but I am sure running is what caused it. So How do you all feel about those last 4-6 miles of the race? I think it's going to be…
  • LOL! sorry about that!!!
  • EXCELLENT! Thanks for adding me as a friend! I look forward to your progress! I try to stay upbeat and positive!
  • I did the c25k on an app for android. i think it was $1.99 for the app. if you can't get it on your phone try the android tablet. i also did the app on an older model ipod. i liked that the best because i could play music at the same time and the voice would just come on and say "walk" or "run". Good luck!
  • It's never too late to start! (Ever watch The Biggest Loser? -- people of all ages and sizes.) You have got a lot of great advice. If your wife will support you, you will do fine. My brother had Agoraphobia in his late teens -- 20s. I remember him asking me to go to the store for him that was less than a block away and I…
  • It's the end of the day on March 2nd and I am up for the challenge!!!! This is just what I need to get outside running again! This winter has been horrible. Am going to try the ticker, too. Love that! -- RETHINKING.... where I am just starting to run again. And addition to the boxing and personal training classes, I…
  • Couch to 5k was the best thing I ever did! Stick with it! I didn't start running until 5 years ago when I was 41 yrs old! I have since run 3 half marathons and countless 5ks! If I can do it, ANYONE can! I even finally got my husband running again. He is 50 and always complained about bad knees. He is training for his first…
  • A banana before workout. It's the only thing that doesn't threaten to come back up when I exert myself. Then after workout I have a protein smoothy. Then later oatmeal with some fruit.
  • I am maintaining. My minimum is 1900 with NO exercise! And I eat Vegan.... (with some occasional chocolate). =)
  • I have had the same responses. My favorite is "give that girl a sandwich!" I have good muscle definition and there still is enough fat on my body. When I get a comment like "you are too skinny" I usually respond "compared to who?" And it shuts them up because it is usually from somebody who has to lose weight or something…
  • 2 weeks is hardly enough time to get results. Here is a motivational quote I like.... "It takes 4 weeks for you to notice your body changing, 8 weeks for your friends to notice, and 12 weeks for the rest of the world. Give it 12 weeks. Don't quit!"
  • Good luck with your hubby. Glad he is getting better. Unfortunately I feel like it will take a heart attack to change my hubby over to vegan. He eats his salads and occassional wraps but he loves his steaks! It started out a healthy diet for me until I learned more about what is going on in the food industry as a whole.…
  • Here is the stuffed shells recipe: http://allrecipes.com/recipe/sure-to-fool-em-vegan-stuffed-shells/ Enjoy!
  • it is easier for you because you want it more. People who have weight issues have to forget about their old habits and learn to eat new things on a regular basis. Exercise needs to be added to the calendar and do it like it's something you have to do like going to work or to a doc appt. It's important. No excuses. New…
  • No you cannot eat too much veggies! And potatoes are not bad to eat either (unless you are frying them or topping them with butter or other fatty substance like sour cream). A plant based diet is the healthiest diet on the planet. Plants have protein, too. Watch Forks Over Knives. It will explain a lot -- and does not show…
  • As long as you don't have too much "bad". It's hard to be perfect all the time. I had butter on a bagel this morning and enjoyed it. I haven't had butter in months (because it is not Vegan)... but now I won't make a habit of it!!!
  • My brother in law said "you still doing that?" (meaning eating vegan) He said I need iron. I need a steak! It's amazing how much people don't know about nutrition. And how many nutrients are in those plant foods. Well the good thing is it is catching on. Slowly.... it's catching on. Just not in my group of peeps yet.
  • I don't try to make anyone Vegan. My kitchen is basically my stuff and their stuff. I will make things that I think they would like and as soon as they know it is "healthy" they want no part of it. The only recipe I managed to fool them with is stuffed shells. You honestly can't tell the cheese is actually tofu. I just…
  • It took me months to figure out that it was the type of blanket I was using. I also have to dress lightly and keep the temp to 65 degrees.
