Doesn't count without the pictures, LOL!

I recommend encouraging your relative to join MFP and to read-read-read to learn what has worked for others who started at his size. BUT don't start off with one of those high-impact programs. That's a recipe for disaster. How about cycling and body weight exercises like those in "You are Your Own Gym"?
-
If you really want good advice go to the MFP group "Eat, Train, Progress". They know their stuff. You're looking good though. I know you'll reach your goal - you seem like a dedicated individual.
-
"Body by You" by Mark Lauren is a good book that works with body weight exercises to get strong. It's serious stuff, no expensive equipment needed.

Statins are dangerous. I'd avoid taking any prescriptions if you can managed your health with diet and exercise. Just run an internet search on the dangers of these drugs and educate yourself.

OP has deactivated her account. Something must have gone wrong....
-
That's a motivational transformation! Diet control and exercise.... the best combo ever!

Treat yourself. I love to ride outside and go places, albeit I'm slow. But I put my bike on a trainer, and though it's still the same thing basically as riding 'in real life' it feels so dead to be sitting on a stationary! So if you think you might even use it once a week - do it! There are so many good reasons to get on a…

14" saddle? That's pretty awesome right there! Congratulations!
-
Great job! You did it with watching what you ate and doing exercise - that's great! I'm so proud of you! You're an inspiration.
-
Great job! You seem to have a great attitude and allow yourself a good calorie amount and your cheat days, making this completely maintainable. Way to go - you look great!
-
Spouse = Stay BF/GF = GTFO And yeah... "all of a sudden gain 100 lbs"? That sounds odd.
-
Body measurements and strength is a better measure of how you're doing than the scale. You might have gone from 'skinny fat' at 147 to 'super awesome' at 153. Don't stop lifting or having fun, but do start keeping track of your food intake. Good luck!
-
Congratulations! Biking is a great exercise; I'm always glad to see others picking it up.
-
Hey, after I lost my first 25 pounds my DEAR mother said to me "You look like you getting fat." (in a thick Asian accent). "You need to exercise more. Want some more rice and curry?" *as she hands me a heaping bowl that would feed the hulk*. And that was in front of her skinny Asian friends. So no, don't be offended. You…

We believe the lies others tell us.

Very inspiring! I'm glad that your attempt with the booze and the pills didn't work. There are better days ahead!
-
Maybe he did, but there isn't any back story here. Most people would say something along the line of: "Hey, my brother is 52. 6'2. 168 lbs., and he is trying to gain weight because (insert reason here). He asked me to ask MFP friends if they have any experience in this because he wants to gain 10 lbs." :drinker: Heck,…

If he's 52 years old I really think that what he eats is his own business. Maybe he likes his weight the way it is?
-
That's an inspiring story! I had to see what he's been up to since the article was written in 2012, and he's still cycling! Here's his FB link for inspiration: https://en-gb.facebook.com/ernestgagnoncyclist Thanks for sharing!

^^^ This! I think that your dad would want you to embrace life! Take little steps and don't be too hard on yourself. Grieving takes time. I'm so sorry for your loss. *hugs*
-
Thank you for sharing your story! You are an inspiration, and you're so right - the most important thing to do is to change how you think. I wish you all the best.

I would respect my husband and put on a t-shirt. I've been married for 20 years; it's a small thing to ask for you to be modest when you run. Do you love him, or do you love getting your own way?
-
Honey, you're 20 years old. You're not married to him and you don't have kids together. There's no reason to try to make this work! He just wanted you to cheat first so he could feel justified in breaking it off. Trust me; you'll look back in 10 years and be so glad that it ended. He's already left you. There's nothing…

^^ This.

This was a fantastic post! I love your saying "Nothing changes if nothing changes" So true.

The sexiest guys out there are cyclists who lift. Just my opinion.

Your mom totally supports you. She as teasing - I totally think she is saying that she loved you when you were fat and she loves you now, and you're progress is super awesome. Really do. She is totally on your side, Girl. She loves you. Edit: you look beautiful!
-
Wow! You did great! I'm so happy for you; love looks good on you, girl! And you will always know that he fell in love with you and wanted to be with you forever, when you were at your heaviest. He loves you for who you are inside! It's certainly a love story to treasure.

I hear you! I usually eat for celebration or sadness. The only time I lost weight over stress was when my life was falling apart, but otherwise.... gimme food! So many of our holidays are food-centered as well! I like your idea of coping with exercise or something that doesn't go in my mouth. Hmm.. that sounded bad. But…
