I struggled for three years trying to lose weight on a lower calorie diet - even though in the back of my mind, I knew I wasn't eating enough. Perhaps the idea spawns from the same reason we don't cook separate foods for our children to cater to their appetites: we grew up being taught that you eat what you are served, gratefully, so when someone gets "special" food, even if it doesn't look tasty, it feels funny.
