I was kind of hoping this would be a Halloween thread, but welcome! We're glad to see you and stick around!

I don't feel guilty. I don't want to lose muscle, just fat, so I don't really want to lose too fast. ETA: I *do* measure my calories pretty conservatively, though. I don't want to end up overeating just because some gym machine says I burned 1000 calories.

2.2 miles walking yesterday, 1.3 miles rowing today.

I think the OP mostly needs suggestions of stuff she can do. 1) Good for you for asking the question. 2) Whatever your situation, you can definitely eat MORE healthy food than you are eating now. A 5 pound bag of apples is cheap, and if you eat 2 apples a day, you have just had a MAJOR improvement in overall health.…

This is really good - I've been meaning to post it on it's own thread. http://nerdfitness.com/blog/2011/10/11/how-to-eat-healthy-without-breaking-the-bank/

Week 1: Average net calories/day: 1936. Weight change: Lost 1.8. Estimated BMR: 2836 Week 2: Average net calories/day: 1693. Weight change: Lost 1.6. Estimated BMR: 2493 This week was much closer to my plan than last week. Instead of a massive weekend followed by four starvation weekdays, I stayed pretty much exactly at…

2 miles walking last night, 1 mile rowing today. Ticker updated.

RosieD, my guess is that the F2F body fat calculators are off in your case, but you could get some other readings, like caliper or electronic, to compare. Maybe there's a metric-English problem or something -- I can't believe any calculator would recommend 179 pounds at 5'1". Did you see how many calories the calculator…

6 miles so far.

I eat 50-80% of my calories at or after dinner.

Love wine. If I could pick anything, I'd probably go for one of the famous vintages to say that I had tried it, but my favorite of the wines I've had is probably Veuve Clicquot champagne.

Wow, I never realized how much those two looked alike. It's like Neil Gaiman travels back in time and some point and gets stuck leading Bob Geldof's life so as to avoid a time paradox.

Personally, I don't do it, because I'm too cheap, but I do believe it's worth the money if you have it to spend. The best explanation I heard was from an interview with Tom Venuto, a high profile trainer and writer. The interviewer asked Venuto to talk about why he himself had a trainer, and he basically said (1) you never…

It really depends what works for you. If eating breakfast and lunch helps you stay on program, go for it. Personally, I'm not an IF-er, but for social reasons, I end up eating well over 50% of my calories during or after dinner. Yesterday, I had a total of 670 calories for breakfast, lunch, and mid-afternoon snack, and…

Week 1 report: Average net calories/day: 1936. Weight change: Lost 1.8. Estimated BMR: 2836 Well, like the man said, no plan survives contact with the enemy. ;-) Fri-Sun was a class reunion out of town. I didn't get much exercise, and I ate and drank a ton, resulting in an average 2921 net calories per days for the first…

I'm in for 100, will update my ticker tomorrow.

I know where you're coming from and I kind of agree, but just to play devil's advocate, if the family of four each get a McChicken, hold the mayo, and a side salad, hold the dressing, that's not a particularly unhealthy meal. (The main problem is sodium). Also, you can actually cook for a family of four fairly cheaply…

Anime: Samurai Champloo and Cowboy Bebop are hard to beat. I think Avatar: The Lost Airbender should count, and every time I see it, I am more amazed at how good it is. I can't think of a moment in any anime that beats the final Zuko/Azula fight, either for choreography or drama. I also really like Fade to Black, Read or…

Hmm. He didn't say that he WAS or WASN'T hitting his numbers for the day, but the articles that he cited were pretty clear that they were comparing the same number of calories per day, just with the calories front loaded or back loaded. To the extent that TateFTW was unclear, it looks like that has been clarified. Do we…

My Wal-Mart definitely has pita, and their produce section (fresh and frozen) is really good. I don't know how to tell a true whole grain bread from a faux whole grain, so I'll take your word on that one. ;-)

The restaurant business is really tough -- no one is going to stay in business unless they serve people what they want. The crazy thing is that people basically WANT 3000 calorie meals. (Studies show that even when you tell people how many calories are in the meal, they pretty much order the same thing.) IMHO, restaurants…

Thanks -- that's interesting and I always appreciate science that challenges my preconceptions. Here's my 2 cents: 1) 98% of weight loss is sticking with your plan. Atkins, Paleo, Intermittent Fasting, 6 meals a day, macronutrient timing, Body for Life, Weight Watchers -- I don't care -- if you can stick with your plan and…
