3.6 miles rowing today. Ticker updated.

I was thinking of something a little more racy.

Hey everybody, I think that "lifehacker" and "xkcd" still work as invite passwords. Try this and let me know if you have any problems. 1. Go to: http://www.fitocracy.com/accounts/login/ to set up an account 2. Click on "Activate your invite code" 3. Use either lifehacker or xkcd as your invite code. Hope to see you there -…

I will give you a dollar if you open with "My pace or yours?" I have always wanted to see someone try that line.

My unqualified opinion: 1) Two shakes a day is a lot. It seems like it would be better to do at most one shake, and have the second light meal be 200 calories worth of lean protein (like canned tuna, chicken breast, spinach, beans, etc) plus veggies. 2) I like Costco's Premier protein shakes, and can't see paying the extra…

All of the following: 1) I like my family. 2) I have some weight to lose. 3) I happened to have this pic handy.

Caution: nerdery follows: Inspired by Derv, I'm starting a modified Fat2Fit plan tomorrow. Here's what I'm planning to do. Background: The fat2fit calculator recommends 1939 calories/light for me if I were "sedentary." Their plan incorporates my exercise into the base, so really I should be doing 2222 (for "light") to 2505…

As far as I can tell, my elliptical's distance meter is yards, which would mean a half mile of elliptical last night. Ticker updated.

What shaj said. It's cheaper to make processed food - you can make millions of servings in a factory and it lasts for weeks. It's also cheaper to make food that a lot of people want, because you can ship it in big trucks without a lot of individual customization. So canned or frozen healthy food is relatively cheap, while…

Dude, be careful with that stuff. Nobody wants to hear: "Is it out yet? Where?"

Every morning when I wake up. I use the hacker's diet website to track the trend, and have an excel spreadsheet.

I've started logging spices, black coffee, etc. Frankly, I don't think 10-15 calories a day makes that much difference, (I know, over the course of a year, that's a pound to 1.5 pounds!), but it's interesting to know. For me, the surprises were chili powder and black coffee.

Just to play Devil's Advocate, Jennifer Hudson has lost a lot of weight since she shot the WW ads. All in all, she's gone from a size 16 to a size 0. 1) If you ask me, she's "Hollywood thin" now -- she's built like Kate Hudson, Mila Kunis, Jessica Alba, etc. 2) Going from a size 16 to a size 0 is probably not a realistic…

D'oh! I left out the beans. I've edited the recipe to include 1 can of white beans, added mostly to thicken the soup and add protein.

That looks really good - thanks!

It's not exactly the Fat2Fit recommendation, but that's what I'm planning to do too -- calculate the "sedentary" BMR as a daily minimum, then use my exercise calories as a buffer.

IMHO, WW offers a couple things that MFP doesn't:. 1) Meetings and weigh-ins for meeting members. (Of course, you could set those up for free if you were motivated). 2) Since you have to pay to do WW, you might be more motivated to stick with the program so that you can stop paying. (But that can be bad if it makes you…

You've inspired me, Derv -- I'm going to switch to a fat2fit target this Friday.

I must have passed 50 yesterday and not noticed. Anyway, 0.8 rowing this morning.

There aren't many bad colors, really.

I like Premier chocolate protein shakes from Costco. They don't have all the grasses and herbs in shakeology, but their macros are great, they taste pretty good, and the price is right.

The fat burning zone is a fitness myth. (I'm no doctor, but yes, it's a myth). Calories are calories. From what I understand, anaerobic exercise just burns some of the energy (glycogen?) stored in your muscles instead of delivering than energy through your blood. So IMHO, you got the benefit of the workout, but you want to…

Here's my 2 cents: 1) It's important to remember that the max HR that the formulas give you is just an estimate. Your personal max heart rate may vary higher or lower than that and is literally the maximum rate that you could achieve with your given level of fitness. 2) So it's possible that you weren't exercising as close…

Mostly, the goal of strength training during weight loss is to prevent muscle loss, not to gain muscle. Of course, preventing yourself from losing 10 pounds of muscle is pretty much the same thing as losing those 10 pounds of muscle, then gaining them back over the next few years, it's just fasted. It's not completely…
