  • I find the free model very confusing - if you don't subscribe, you can eventually unlock everything but the current season, right? http://blog.zombiesrungame.com/post/118924432364/the-all-new-zombies-run-is-out-now-and (I was part of the kickstarter way back when, but between phone OS changes and upgrades, now I'm just a…
  • I leave my HRM and phone logging "cardio," but I'm starting to think it over-logs.
  • I log weekly on MFP, but track daily in a google sheet (and Beeminder).
  • ^ This. You can set up a pretty good bodyweight program if you want to try out some exercises before you spend any $$. I generally don't think most people end up liking the machines like Smith machines or Bowflexes - a set of dumbbells or weights is more effective and versatile. My personal favorites: 1) Pull up bar (iron…
  • I use a heart rate monitor and a weighted hoop - FWIW, now that I'm used to hooping, I can't get my heart rate much above what it would be with a brisk walk, but it's still something to do while watching TV. According to the Livestrong site, the 7 cal/min estimate is based on a American Council on Exercise study, and isn't…
  • Can you take up Zumba or something? Yes, it's in public, but nobody is looking at you, and everybody else looks just as awesome/goofy, depending on your perspective.
  • Bumping with my answer. I tried Gym Hero, which was very good, but then I gave the new Fitocracy app another try, and it's much improved from last year. So I'm back on Fitocracy, and like it a lot.
  • Thanks! (IMHO, to condense everything on this website, I would have to include something about how a pound of mammoth weighs the same as a pound of honey . . .)
  • 1) I liked this page a lot - pretty much everything on it makes sense. http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/body/is-a-calorie-a-calorie.html (Pull quote: "To lose weight, eat less; it works every time.") 2) ^^ Lula, my (uninformed) opinion is that many of our natural hunger cues are not ideal for the current environment. My body…
  • ump-bay, thanks for posting - it looks great!
  • If you have a phone with low energy bluetooth and a gps, you can get a compatible HRM and do that. I have the Polar H4 HRM and an iPhone 4s - I use Digifit and Zombies, Run as apps, and it's pretty great.
  • I like all the recipes I cook, but I'm not a picky eater. IMHO, your problem isn't that your husband is a dude, it's that he's a picky eater with a high metabolism. I have similar issues with my kids, so here's my advice: - Work portion control and serving size. Have an undressed green salad on the table and some steamed…
  • I like to listen to books on tape, or Zombies, Run, or watch TV. I spend about 30% of my brain on intensity and form. When I'm listening to Zombies, Run, I spend another 30% or so planning my escape route if the zombies show up. The rest is for whatever I'm watching/listening to.
  • Cinci.
  • My number one pet peeve is when I have the green light in stop and go traffic, but wait so that the intersection doesn't get blocked if the light changes, but then some bozo turns right on red. Dude, stop punishing me for being a human being - you get to go when YOUR light is green. Number two is when I am turning left,…
  • Bump. (I'm going to assume 2 oz dry pasta = 3/4 cup cooked as a general rule, but it's probably worth testing for different kinds of pasta).
  • I was just signing on to recommend Premier Protein Shakes too! (I buy them at Costco). Easy, good NI, and very filling.
  • I'll say a prayer for you, but I have to say that I don't see things getting better. FWIW, my advice would be to get a new f-buddy and a new trainer, and just stay friends with this guy. Tell him that you like him, but that it doesn't seem like the relationship can continue the way it is, and that you hope you guys can…
  • Fox got the summary wrong. (So did every other paper I saw). The issue was whether firing someone because your spouse is jealous of them counts as gender discrimination as defined in the law. The dentist admitted that the assistant was a great worker and person, but his wife had demanded that he fire her. (There was no…
  • Well, if we are assuming that this fictional character (1) would be willing to go out with me,* (2) won't grant wishes,** and (3) that I am not married with a family, then Miss Martian. * Which frankly, would probably eliminate most candidates, ** In which case I would start with I Dream of Jeannie, but probably ask for…
  • Sounds like game to me.

  • Safari Pandora DigiFit (with a bluetooth HRM) Zombies, Run PodCruncher
  • One quick observation from my run last night: The Naruto soundtracks are great for running, but resist all temptations to run with both arms trailing behind your back! I cannot stress this enough -- it's fun, and you actually go kind of fast, but it burns power like you wouldn't believe.
  • I don't log a whole day at a time, but I often log dinner ahead of time, so that I have an idea what I am planning to eat and in what quantities.
  • That's an awesome idea. Also, five pounds a day? What's petrol cost over there?
  • I assumed this would be a thread of people showing off their arm development. You have all let me down.
  • Duh - of course you weigh the same in all four picture! A pound of you on any particular date = a pound of you on any other date. Therefore, you always weigh the same. I would have thought that would be obvious. In fact, everyone on this thread weighs the same as everyone else! ;-)
  • PSA: Good news! I do not weigh more than I did when I graduated from high school! 1 pound of me now weighs exactly as much as 1 pound of me weighed when I graduated from high school! (IMHO, when you don't define your units, the statements "x weighs more than y" and "x does not weigh more than y" are BOTH meaningless. It's…
  • I love my kettle bells. IMHO, dumbbells are about as good, but the best exercise is the one you will do. Can you google for a certified kettlebell trainer in your area and book an hour? It will be worth your while to see if you like them and learn some form. Also a trainer can give you some advice so you don't start too…
  • Great topic and great advice, thanks! I don't know if this has come up, but has anyone talked about the importance of warming up? When I started pull-ups and chin-ups, I would just do them cold at the beginning of my workout. I learned my lesson when I strained a bicep and lost about a week. Now I do some burpees or…
