Depends on what you want the watch to do. If it's just the ultra basic record where I run and how fast etc, most of them are fine. Some now have built in HRM's too. If you want more features, or longer life you need to look at some of the more costly ones. This page can be pretty overwhelming, but it's probably the best…

Great work @LLduds! Love your dog modelling the bling :) Trail anything is never PB time, unless it's a course PB that you're chasing. Sounds like your knee issue might be weakness or strength imbalance. Could be an idea to see a physio if you can. @moyer566 Bugger about the SD not sticking to the plan. Hope your 10.2 was…

Dreadmills can be great tools. You may find you're running the same pace on the treadmill, most fitness mills aren't exactly super precisely calibrated. I think outside is better for nearly all running. Speed work outside, you learn how to drop gears and surge as you go from your jog to pace, treadmills you need to wait…

You can walk away if there isn't another customer in line, even if it's 2 or 3 steps away and then back again, basically pacing back and forth between customers. It's only a small change, but over time it will add up.

@faithan84 it may have been sooner for me, I honestly can't remember. I know I definitely haven't had any "I'm not a runner" thoughts after my first HM. But I also never entered/raced any 5 or 10k races. I did parkrun regularly though, which I am sure helped.
-
@Just_Ceci well done on your half and for surprising the people you grew up with! :) @moyer566 nice work extending the run, just don't veer off the program too often. @faithan84 I couldn't tell you when my barrier broke, but it definitely does. At a guess it was after my first half marathon, so it does become easier with…

@ftrobbie Great news on your parkrun result and good work getting out in cruddy conditions! Good luck returning to the stomping grounds of your youth in a few weeks :) Definitely no sub 20 parkrun for the next few weeks for me. Next week I'm taking my puppy to parkrun, the following I'm RD'ing as the Ultra is the next day.…

well done @LLduds !! Glad the knee seems to be feeling ok too.
-
Welcome @faithan84 as Robbie said we're a pretty eclectic bunch with our running, but we update and cheer each other on as much as we can. Hope the knee's feeling ok! @LLduds Hope your 10k goes well! @ftrobbie well done at parkrun mate! We had the same sort of weather minus the horrid wind. parkrun this morning went well,…

@moyer566 I know it's possible and I know others do it. I just really don't want to, even if it's the best option :P Nap isn't viable for me post run, I'm in the office by 6:30 @ftrobbie Sounds like a reasonable plan, care to hook a fella up? I'm going for these stupid distances and winging it. Good work on getting…
-
@moyer566 Yeah 4:30ish would be my start. The dog only does a little short of 5k currently. I would still be doing my longer runs in the afternoon. I just have trouble getting to bed early enough, that I'm not trying to run and then operate the rest of the day on like 4 hours sleep. @Just_Ceci It may be at the gym, but…

@ftrobbie Good to hear mate, whats the weekly mileage max out at on your plan? I'm sure you'll get yourself going again. The cycling will be helping a bit too. Although I'm still averaging 70k a week, I'm struggling with routine at the moment. My puppy runs have reached the point, due to heat where I can't head out when I…

@LLduds Nice bling :) and well done! Regarding your leg pain, I agree with Robbie and MM. There is a wide range of possible causes. I'd drop mileage a bit for a few weeks and then build slowly again. If it comes back, definitely time to see a Dr or a Physio. No reason not to see one sooner though. @moyer566 Well done on…

@ftrobbie Thanks for the congrats on the sub21 :) Glad to see your training is headed back where it belongs. @moyer566 Good luck with your race! Enjoy the atmosphere and have fun!! @MeanderingMammal Nice to see you reporting in again :) Everyone else, good work on keeping at it! I can't imagine dealing with ice and snow…

Good running everyone! I've been in a mental funk thus the lack of updates. @moyer566 The fatty area's on the body naturally have a lot lower circulation, so generally aren't as well 'climate controlled' as the rest of the body. Windproof may help, what were you actually wearing? @LLduds The distance could/would most…

A few weeks?? I had my lowest mileage week in about 6 months last week. That'll do me for recovery! :D

The weird scarf thingy is probably a buff (or another brand). They absolutely rock! http://www.buffwear.com/

@rebeccatherine If snow etc is a regular thing for you, then proper winter gear is almost a necessity, especially as you're not one that loves the dreadmill. Yeah having the run flow interrupted can really mess with things. Not having eaten since lunch could also have an effect. @LLduds the course was 2.5km. Actually quite…

@KRPolo I've ran on a treadmill a total of twice since I have learnt to run. I'll be happy if it stays at that number. Although if I have a chance for another VO2max test, I'll take it. Treadmill just doesn't feel quite right for me. I don't feel dizzy, but trying to get the right speed sucks. Thanks @moyer566 I'm very…

For most beginner runners, and some more advanced ones. The time taken to run 20miles is already at the upper limit of how long you can run, and still recover from in reasonable time. Extend past that, and the recovery time outweighs the benefits from the run. Overall volume, especially if ran at the correct pace will…

Ok, so my update now.... lets see. Friday was a short 2k jog with the dog. I was just feeling flat and didn't want to bank many more miles before Sunday. Saturday I ended up being a marshal at parkrun, and then a 10k or so fairly lazy trail run, so scope out where I'll be marshalling this weekend, and ensure I can get…
-
@KRPolo Great work on your 5k I'd say you're probably ok to do 4 days running a week, with 1 double up, if you go more than 2 days in a row, you'll need to be hyper vigilant for niggles etc. @JSC145 Congratulations and wicked Bling! Take your time to recover. For people running HM's and FM's, conventional wisdom is up to 1…
-
@samra338 That is kinda freaky, maybe look for a running group that you could head to your trails with? Glad you're staying active. @ftrobbie If the run felt good, don't stress about the HR numbers mate. You'll find your fitness back in no time as long as you keep at it. As for this weekends 'race' I'm not racing it like I…

I stopped tracking food long ago, it got scary seeing what I had to eat to balance out my long runs O.o I'm pretty sure I did stall though. I tend to agree with moyer, it's probably water retention, both from muscle usage and possibly also from higher electrolyte intake (if you're using electrolytes). I know after some of…

Give 30s a go and see how it feels. Eventually you should be able to adjust your pace on feel for the distance you're going.
-
You probably need to slow down to go further without suffering through the last few miles.
-
@KRPolo So sorry for your loss. I agree with Ceci, if you take the 5k as an experience and not a race I think you'll be fine. @LLduds Nice Bling and well done on your 10miler :) @moyer566 Bugger about your SD, hope it doesn't take too long for her to recover. You'll be fine with your runs! Just remember to slow down if you…

Hot shower (or bath) and a good hot meal. I like my meat pies, but stews/soup type things work well too.

I haven't done that, but one time I was using the full Zombies, Run! game on a trail. I don't remember if I had chases on or not, but I startled some wildlife in the scrub next to the trail. They took off and so did I!!! I think I would have beaten Usain Bolt over that 50m stretch before my brain kicked back into gear.

Thanks moyer & Ceci, looking back at the race I ran it at a startlingly consistent exertion level according to my HRM data, average HR for each KM split (Excluding the first and last) were all within 5bpm, and the max HR for the splits didn't vary by much more either. I doubt I'll ever be happy with the race, but it was a…
