75 for me. Trying to get my speed back after Comrades so this month calls for shorter faster runs.

For those who are interested I posted a race report on: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/blog/marikevr/view/comrades-2014-666950

I am not going to 'officially' enter the challenge this month. Just finished the Comrades Marathon on 1 June (56 miles). I am in recovery mode. Since it is now winter in the Southern Hemisphere I am going into hibernation for a couple of weeks and will only run again when I feel like it. I will come and post a link to race…

I have never run two marathons a week apart. My closest long runs were a 56k and 34k a week apart. I would run both marathons at a long run pace instead of racing them. Also watch your nutrition the week between the marathons. You will need to replace what you have lost during the first marathon and fuel up for the next…

I freeze mine the night before and take it out the morning before the race. Depending on the temps it is usually ice cold slush.

I'm starting my taper next week so 150 for me.

Feel free to add me as well!

I toss most of my shirts and only keep the really special ones (good quality or the race was awesome!) Every couple of months I donate the majority of my medals to a charity that hands them to sick kids after their cancer treatments. I am a data junkie. I hoard my Garmin data and any race photos I can get my hands on.

I haven't done a 24-hour race, or a 100-miler (yet...never say never!) but I have done 12-hour races and 50-milers. The circuit races I did consisted mostly of a 1km lap that you did over and over and over and over again. You wear a chip and cross a timing mat at every lap. Sounds a bit like a hamster on a wheel, but I…

Ran the Two Oceans Ultramarathon (56km/35mi). Would love to race it, but paced it as a long run. Very proud of my self control and hit most of my time markers within a minute of the planned pace. Final finish was about 20s off my targeted finish time. Running as opposed to racing has its advantages and recovery was quick…

Excellent time! Well done.

So true!

Here is the 54-miler I did last year: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/blog/marikevr I suffered and swore I would never go back...but I am running it again in about two months.

Dave, thanks for the great race report. Anything can happen on race day. Your training was rock solid. It is always a difficult call to make when you are being tough to continue running and when you are just being stupid. Running under those conditions could have resulted in an injury. Although hard to do, it was probably…

Can I make you feel better? Bit off topic, but here goes: I went through 3 pairs of shoes in build up for my 55-mile race last year. They were identical. I marked the pair that I should use for my race VERY clearly. I could not miss it. But, I did. I still don't know how, because I packed and checked. But, I did. When I…

You have done very solid training for your 50-miler. And with the enforced rest you will go in strong. How is the taper going? (I hate tapering. It is fun for a day...and then I start to growl at the dogs).

After I did my first marathon I didn't run for almost two months. After my 54-miler last year I also didn't run again for almost two months (slight improvement in burnout time there! :D) So you are not alone. I find that I sometimes just need the mental break. All those sums the whole week trying to figure out how you are…

A long hot bath with a cup of coffee are one of the favourite things about running...

I was a bit nervous going into my 50k run. I have been struggling with injuries and haven't been training as I am supposed to. I took the optimistic road and tried to tell myself that at least I had a proper taper, otherwise I would've kept on running except for a 3-day break before. The run went well. Had a bit of blood…

It is a pity that you struggle to find shoes. My Achilles flares up in the wrong shoes. That, and when I increase hill training, especially on hard surfaces. What helps for me is toe and calf raises, and drawing the alphabet in the air with my feet. Calf stretches might also help, but avoid overstretching (google will give…

From a safety perspective I won't although from a heat perspective it would be great.

I have to laugh. I have this one running partner where we will end up running once around the parking lot of McDonalds because the run HAS to end on an even number. And then I'm like, on your watch or mine? *evil grin* My runs generally ends up as round numbers because I have limited routes that I can safely run alone. I…

You can't get wetter than wet! I don't mind pouring rain, it is the huge puddles and the splashing cars that gets to me some days. I once did a 50km race in pouring rain. Chaffed quite bad and had to retire my shoes afterwards...but we grinned like cats on our race photos!

This was supposed to be a 180 mile month. But I am testing the waters on my legs again so will build up slowly for the next week or two. So will aim for another 160. Not exactly ideal training for me at the moment...but I will take what I can get!
-
Awesome stuff! I assume that will be your last long-long run up to you race? Did you do it at your 50-miler pace or quicker? I have a 50k long run planned for the 15th, hoping that all my pains and niggles clear up before then!
-
Coming from somebody that just had an injury scare I can totally sympathise. I hope you build up to be stronger than ever!
-
I got injured and took a week off to RICE. So did not meet my goal. :( Had the weirdest floating pain up and down my leg. Sore enough to make me limp. I suspected everything from a stress fracture to shin splints after overdoing it with quality runs, but after talking to the queen of the run this weekend (aka my best…

Just for interest sake, Tim Noakes did a complete turn around regarding his stance on CHO needed, especially for carbohydrate resistant (or prediabetic) endurance athletes. He is now advocating a high fat, low CHO diet. I have ordered his new book "The Real Meal Revolution" (it is sold out everywhere here in South Africa).…

In for 160!

Amen. I am on my second one now and never had problems with it.
