  • I'm not sure where you are located, but there are some great soups in Australia (in foil packs). They are quite cheap (about $3.50 - less if you buy them on special), have low calories (they vary, so check the number of calories), are easy to heat up (I transfer them into a bowl and use the microwave), and are filling. I…
  • I'm sorry but I'm going to have to withdraw from this challenge. My doctors are currently revising my medication for diabetes, so my blood sugar levels are not consistent, and now I've found that I've got an infection in the lungs which makes it even more difficult to keep to a diet. All the best with the rest of the…
  • It has not been a good week (my Aunt's funeral on Wednesday, and restructure/redundancies throughout the organisation), and my weight has increased: Starting weight: 75.5 kg (166.5) lbs Week 1: (6/7) 76 kg 167.5 lbs Week 2: (13/7) - lbs Week 3: (20/7) -lbs Week 4: (27/7) -lbs
  • Thanks for starting a really good kick-start challenge. I went onto a "maintenance" diet about 18 months ago, at my doctor's suggestion (I was starting to get shaky, and as I'm also on insulin, she thought a break would be a good idea). I put on 2 kg (5 lbs) initially, but have remained steady since then. However I'm still…
  • I think the apple and cinnamon sounds great too.
  • One day (or one hour) at a time. I find that by persevering against the odds, sooner or later I look around, and suddenly realise that I am making progress towards my goals. Hang in there
  • In response to your initial query, I'm a diabetic on insulin. In the last 18 months, I've lost 25 kg (about 55 lb) through using MFP. Not surprisingly, my blood sugar levels are under much better control, and I've managed to drop the other medication I was on. My insulin is less than half. Until now (trying to focus on…
  • Have you analysed when you smoke the most? Is there a particular trigger? Like morning tea time? After dinner, whilst watching TV? If so, try to think about how to manage those situations. e.g. go for a walk after dinner. Good luck
  • This quote covers so much more than health & fitness, it covers all areas of our life - how were interact with others, how we spend our money, how focused we are at work etc. I think that if you are "doing the quote much more than I ever did before", then you are doing extremely well. Don't forget that we are but human!
  • Welcome to MFP. Rather than commence with a gym, my suggestion would be to go for a walk each day. 30 minutes if possible - otherwise start with just 5 or 10 minutes, and work up. In addition to this, set your weight loss to 1 (or at most 2 lbs) per week. Log all of your food and exercise. Drink you water, eat all of your…
  • I agree. Can you eat tofu? If so, include it with the stir-fry. For a pasta sauce, I use basil leaves with chopped up tomato, and a single slice of low-fat cheese. I use very little oil. p.s. JanaCanada, I love the photo and ticker!
  • After surviving the Christmas/New Year frivolity, its great to have a new health/fitness challenge to kick-start the new year ...
  • The Europe Team was full, so I've joined "Free Spirits". I'm actually an Aussie, so that's fine by me. Great initiative. BRING IT ON!!!
  • Like many other people on MFP, I had trouble losing weight and keeping it off. I just slowly gained weight - 1kg per year. Until I joined MFP - and through using the food log, I discovered that some of the foods I thought were "healthy" (like the vegetable, fruit & dip pack at work) actually had more calories than I…
  • Many happy returns from Melbourne, Australia. I hope you have a great day.
  • I agree that pelvic floor exercises will help. When I started to drink more water, I noticed the problem too - even though I had been losing weight. My doctor suggested drinking less water (as she said that other patients had been to a specialist, and that is what had been advised to help with the problem). i.e. don't feel…
  • Regardless of what I think (or anyone else for that matter) is the appropriate behaviour regarding touching/slapping/grabbing, it is apparent that you don't have the same opinion as your gentleman friend. My suggestion iis that you don't discuss the matter with him any further, don't argue as to who is right or wrong, just…
  • Are we counting the Aussies yet? There are lots of us here, but we don't say much - we're the shy, retiring ones!!! LOL.

  • I am so pleased for you. Congratulations on your achievement. flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou:
  • I generally "update" my goals (and hence the daily calorie allowance) when I lose about 3 kg (7 lbs). This is sometimes prompted by hitting a plateau. Now that I am within about 10 lbs of my goal, it is becoming harder to lose weight - and the above no longer applies to me.
  • An amazing accomplishment. Congratulations on your commitment and perseverence over the last 10 months. I am sure that at times it was not easy. Well done.
  • If I'm hungry I'd have some fruit salad or low-GI yoghurt
  • I am so pleased for you. Along your journey, you have shown Perserverence, Commitment, and Courage. Well done.
  • Welcome to MFP. Congratulations on starting your new health plan. At my heaviest weight (many years ago) I was close to your starting weight - I was 113 kg. I joined MFP at the beginning of September at 95 kg, and am now down to 77 kg (still some more weight to lose!). I've found MFP very helpful in losing weight, and I am…
  • Burgen - Low GI and great for diabetics. Note that the number of calories differs with the different types of the Burgen bread.
  • I've still got 7 kg (about 15 lbs) to go to reach a normal BMI. Yesterday I went to the shops at lunchtime searching for some clothes. I had no idea what size I was. All I knew was that I have given away most of the clothes in my closet because they were too big (including some which have been there for many years). When I…
  • I am so pleased for you. Congratulations on your achievements.
  • That's what MFP is all about - helping us to get more fun out of live. Way to go!
  • You asked us to comment, and make suggestions, so I'll do my best. You sound to me as though you are over-tired - when this happens, everything seems worse than it is. For example, don't stress about your job. If they are happy with the work you are doing, and the paycheck is OK, then don't worry about it. If you feel that…
  • My suggestion is to only comment on their progress, when you feel comfortable doing so. I try not to post "negative" comments, however sometimes I feel that I must express my concerns if I think that somebody is not eating enough. If your friends feel that you aren't contributing to their journey through life, then they…
