I have used those, they do a pretty good job for cheese popcorn, Im pretty sure they are like 5 calories and not zero, but pretty close to nothing....

whats you price range?

HRM are all generally accurate if used properly, they tell you how hard your heart is working at a given point in time. Most HRM have an Average HR function that tells you the hearts work over time, those two functions are generally Very accurate.... Now the tricky part is when you start using it to count calories, this…

If you have a HRM, just leave it on for 10-15mins after you are done and that will help give you a more acurate calories burned. Really you can leave it on till your HR returns to a normal rate.

If you are asking if you burn extra calories while lifting weights, the answer is yes. Now how much energy you burn(Calorie deficit) depends on alot of things, but to simplify how hard and how long you workout. I have gone to the gym and put on my HRM and executed 5 sets of heavy lifts (Squat, Dead Lift, Snatch, etc) with…

I know it can be discouraging when you first start, but understand it gets better. There are a ton of programs for people like you just starting out running Couch to 5k seems to be popular on here and I am sure it works. As the poster above mentioned having a good fitting and proper (for you) running shoe is also very…

The short answer is no. Not sure that there is any research out there specifically on this, but the principles still apply... Now saying that if you have lets say flabby arms and you build the muscles in your arms they may "seem" less flabby.

Shoes are very personel. The best advice you will get is go to a Local running store and let them put you in the right shoe. Get a couple of options then you can shop online for last years models and discounts...... Don't go to ****s or anything like that. Find a REAL running store with people that understand shoes...

Yeah I think I said in an earlier post that in alot of the beginner programs that speed work is either omitted completely or delayed. I understand classifying Tempo differently. I tend to categorize Tempo more with speed work. It is an over simplification and because you are running faster and with the easy/hard programs…

Sorry if I didn't clarify better , but her 5k to 5k time stayed pretty consistant as did her 10k to 10k..... Using Your Example- [/quote] two runners currently can run the same speed 5K and one wants to run one faster next month then adding more miles probably won't matter. If the other builds the endurance to sustain that…

And I believe that would be called a Tempo run( to the extreme)

Nope, She just ran feel, building slowly and running much of the time without timing her runs at all. She walked (with a stroller) and ran. We ran a few 5Ks and 10Ks and throughout her per mile times were very similar for like events. Now I preface this by saying my wife was relatively fit and as stated different stuff…

I'll concede that you have more skills in quotes and emoticons... My OLY is in August, Army 10 miler in OCT,1/2 Mary in Nov...Tough Mudder in Dec...Full IM next spring I know old dogs don't necessarily want to learn new tricks (and that is not a shot at all). One thing I've found is there are a lot of ways to get results…

Sorry I had to walk away from this yesterday, work called. I think OP's original question was "how to get faster." Now I stand by what I said originally that "more running" is probably one of the least effective ways to get faster. My wife is a prime example. She ran 15-20 up to 25 miles a week for an extended period of…

I think the fastest people in the world do alot of speed work to get fast. lets no confuse elite level athletes with beginners. the prescription is not the same. I disagree- running is NOT the only thing that makes you a better runner. I've seen guys in their 30s that have been running for a long time decrease their 5k…

Some good advice and some not so much.... Here are a couple of things I would suggest: 1. running more to make you faster only works to a certain extent and may be the least effective way to do it. 2. If you want to run faster, then run faster-ie fartleks, intervals, Tempo runs(run a shorter distance at a faster pace.) 3.…
-
Try the Crossfit Endurance website. No all HIT, but they have a pretty good spread of intervals, Tempo type stuff..... Tabata run is one of my favorites: 8 sets of 20 secs on 10 secs rest so 4 mins total but, on a treadmill at 10-12% grade with the speed at your 5k pace....once you get to about the 5th one you will feel…

I do this with my 6 yo. I run and she rides her bike..We are also getting her into running she has done a few kids Miles and we are signing her up for a kids marathon(run 25 miles over a period of time and run the last mile as a fun run prior to the adult race). But I don't think she could keep up over any big distance.…

I agree with the 2nd part, Better Technique= Better muscle development. But, Lower Weights = More Reps does not = Better Technique = Greater Muscle Development If your form is sh!tty, and you drop the weight and do more sh!tty reps with less weight, the net gain is zero...

Your muscles need rest. Not sure what your program looks like but a rest day/easy day is not a bad idea. Listen to your body!!
-
If you are going to do your own programming, then stick to stuff you know. The Oly lifts and KBs are not something to "Try out" without help... I'm a pretty big believer in putting weight overhead to build core stablity.

Crossfit is a good workout, I've been doing CF for 4 years. However the biggest thing is people doing the execises wrong and getting hurt. If you are inexperienced at weight training it may be worth it to join a CF gym just to learn the form. I have done the WODs at a regular gym. It can be difficult if the gym doesn't…

If you follow someone like that, embarass the cr@p out of him by telling him to rack this weights. I maybe mr @sshole in the gym, but I will tell a dude to re rack his weights or wipe off a bench.
-
How about mr 2 in legs: I watched a guy put 350lbs on a squat rack then proceed to do 3 sets of 6, each rep moved the bar a total of 2 inches. Follow that up with loading the leg press machine with "all the weight in the gym" only to move the sled 2 inches. On top of that he left all the weight on the squat rack. just to…

There really isnt a do all bike a mountain bike is more comfortable and better on dirt, uneven surfaces, but it is not geared to go fast and you will get blown away in a tri. A cyclocross bike is a hybrid road bike, with wider wheels. These are not a common bike to find. A road bike is you "10 speed" is much faster, but…

Look you will get alot of different answers on here...Don't believe the"cardio for ripped, lifting for mass" I believe that resistence training is a key factor in fitness and it is not an either or with cardio training.

Thanks all...I understand that most HRMs give a calories burned function, however these too have error. There are many factors Resting and Max Heart rate, BW,etc that all contribute to an accurate calories burned equation. I was just curious if any were doing the higher level math or going by what the HRM tells you.

I have a 22 pages of crossfit type BW workouts if you are interested.
