Rowing can get a little boring for me (even with good music), so I tend to do interval training. For example, I'll do 1000 meters (at about 80% intensity) then jump off and do 15 pushups then 900 meters, jump off then 15 lunges, then 800 meters, jump off and plank for 45 seconds. It keeps things entertaining.

Congrats on taking that first step! I was super into triathlons about 4 years ago. I did 3 sprints and 1 Olympic distance. Once you've completed one, it becomes a bit addictive, so beware! ^_^ Sounds like you're on the right track when it comes to training. What really helped me as well was sprinkling in a bit of weight…

Those are already some amazing results! Congrats! It's good that you've realized this aspect of your weight loss journey. The worst thing that can ever happen is if you begin to resent your diet and exercise. Someone asked a good question: Is that the lifestyle you want? As you know, it's all about lifestyle changes rather…

Someone mentioned "mashed potatoes." What you do for that is chop up a whole head of cauliflower, boil pieces until tender, put into food processor while still warm, add 1/2 tablespoon of butter, 2 tablespoons light cream cheese, salt, pepper and let it go until it's silky. The cream cheese makes it a little thicker and…

I cut back during the week. No drinking Monday-Thursday. And then as the weekend rolls around i just make sure to log in what I drink. It can certainly make me think twice when I know that I've had 4 beers and I have to add in 500-600 calories, but I know I make it up during the week, or I make sure I have a nice long…

It's totally worth it! If anything, I'm able to know exactly how long I'm doing my cardio for. I was able to prepare for a 10K because I made myself run to at least 3 episodes Avatar the Last Airbender last summer. ^_~

Congrats on the decision to make a change! Keep up with the strength training. Cardio is good, but lifting heavy stuff will help you in the long run. Maybe dedicate one day to just strength training. Your food intake is how you're going to lose the bulk of your weight. By "junk" what do you mean? Do you mean simply…

This post has been pretty hilarious. I'm on Imgur a lot, and the Dr. Who posts always tend to be the most entertaining. I watch anime, but after hearing so much about the illustrious Doctor, I may have to set aside some time to watch the series. Another summer project. I have found a way to integrate my nerdiness into my…

^^^^^^ YES! You would be suprised what you lose in inches rather than lbs!! Keep at it!
-
Keep at it! I reward myself with food, so I know the feeling.

Totally love your positive attitude!! Here's to setting goals and working towards them!

Thanks for all the kind words everyone! I knew there was a reason I came back to MFP! ^_^

Added.... anyone is free to add me as well. ^_^ Looking forward to my holiday break and some nice long and involved workouts. I'll be sure to share!

I will echo what everyone has been saying... 5-10 minute cardio warmup (my favorite is the rower: 1000 meters in 5-6 minutes is perfect!). Making sure your body is warm is so important for lifting so you don't hurt yourself. Dependent upon how much I lift on a given day, sometimes I'll do cardio afterwards, but much of the…

A bald eagle and a rack of baby back ribs... Ha!

I find that being on a schedule works for me so I don't get those nasty cravings. I teach high school, so the days are pretty much the same. I'm slightly dreading being on break, with no set schedule, and being in the house around all those holiday temptations.

Welcome back! We'll help you out! i've got some great workouts that can be done at home easily, so hit me up!

It totally depends on the brand as well. I wouldn't let the size thing matter too much.
-
I'd say do some strength training in addition. I did triathlons a couple years ago and I did get pretty bulky because of the weight training, but I was lifting a lot of weight for endurance purposes. Now, I'm doing a lot more body weight training and resistance training in addition to cardio and it's been keeping me nice a…

Look for things that are high in protein. It will keep you full longer. I'll echo a couople that have already been mentioned: Almonds Greek Yogurt It can be tough, but try to simply eat the suggested serving size for some of your favoirte less healthy snacks. That way you can indulge a little and practice beefing up your…

Listen to music while doing weights and watch anime while doing cardio. ^_^

Motivation is always a good thing. Feel free to add. ^_^

I'm 5'1 and 29. I started out at 150. I am at 139 right now. My goal is 130 because that's when I feel my healthiest and most natural, and I don't feel like working out or eating are the focuses of my life. That may seem a little high, but even when I was training for triathlons (3 hours at the gym 6 days a week, 1400…

If you're going low carb, use a leaf of romain lettuce, add your favorite lunch meat and a slice of cheese, roll and munch. The romain gives a nice crunch and the protein from the cheese and meat will keep you full. It's kind of a salad and kind of not. ^_^ As others have said, soup is a good alternative, especially with…

Love them! But just make sure you know what you're doing. You can seriously hurt yourself if you're not doing them correctly. Either watch some videos or get a trainer to help you out. They are great for cardio+strength training and varying up your routine. My hamstrings are always burning after a straight minute of kettle…

Cheat days can be important so that you don't end up resenting your new lifestyle. The moment it becomes "Oh, I could never eat that" is the moment you're no longer content with your new lifestyle.

Yes! Lifestyle change! And also being ok with it being a VERY slow process. Dropping 10 lbs in two weeks is do-able, but not sustainable. I exercise for fun and energy, rather than for a race or event. I will say, however, that training for an event was a good initial motivation, but just be careful of burnout.
