Buy a scale and weigh your solid food (and use volumes for liquids).

I was. Especially the first time I started using "real" weights instead of the machines. Then I realized that a) no one else gives a *kitten* what I'm doing and b) everyone has to start somewhere. Leave your ego at home - it will be a much better experience for you. Good luck, and be safe.
