I'd say your closer to circuit training then. The reason they don't include the calorie counts as accurately is because strength training has afterburn too, and it's harder to estimate calories burned from that. Personally I don't get too caught up in it. I do my cardio everyday, with strength training 3x per week (moving…

In circuit training you're ideally moving quickly between sets (short rest periods) and keeping your heart rate up, so you get the cardiovascular benefit as well. Strength training is just putting little tears in the muscle fiber, but if you're heart rate isn't up high enough, you don't receive the cardio benefit. How long…

I think it takes a few days of consistently low calories to fall into starvation mode (as in, your body starts eating itself). Anyway, carbs before bed (like, after 7 PM) are a definite NO for me. I don't need fast-acting energy to go to sleep...I'd rather eat my carbs for breakfast and let them fuel me throughout the day.…

Google knows all...it might even know your name. Anyway, yes, or you can go to the beachbody.com website to check it out. You're going to find a ton of stuff out there though; lots of P90Xers do blogs about their 90 day journey, many reviews, people on youtube...everything! Obviously, it's popular and people love…

P90X! Seeing that you're a young guy and not too severely overweight, you'll probably be able to do this program. All you need are some dumbbells, a soft padding like carpet on your floor or a yoga mat, and a pull-up bar. Bring IT!

I've seen several posts from people saying that they just don't like exercise, or they can't get into it, or it's just not for them. They don't necessarily care about being ultrafit, but they'd rather just be slimmer or lose some weight. Not so for me (and Team No Excuses)! A note from Tony, who is always inspiring,…

A note from Tony Horton, P90X trainer Life with exercise creates a completely different journey than a life without it. Making the time for exercise means that you're setting an intention to have a great life. Life without exercise means you're setting an intention to miss out on a better life. The quality of your life…

I'd say weigh yourself every morning after you go to the bathroom, either naked or always wearing the same clothes. Now, some people don't weigh everyday, and that's fine, but it helps others stay accountable. However, if you see an overall downward trend say, over 4 weeks time, you're doing well, even if day to day you…

Aww FC that's what I like to hear! I'm not trying to be mean to people, and it always seems like I'm playing the devil's advocate, but truthfully, I don't mind it. There are plans that work for people and there are plans that don't work (as in, not conducive to their lifestyle) for others. It takes a lot of trial and…

Yeah, I think that Atkins was a pre-clean eating thing anyway. It received bad press and coverage but honestly, it's healthy. Don't like red meat? Don't eat it. It's not like you have to. You aren't really into counting calories on Atkins, and once you start eating clean, you can pretty much listen to your body cues and…

No weighing right now for me either! Actually my scale needs a new battery, and I have yet to get one. I'll do TurboJam Punch, Kick, and Jam later tonight, followed by Core SynergisticsX. My muscles are tired just thinking about it... M

Yeah, I agree with above posters. Don't have the food around. You can't exactly do a TON of damage if you binge on carrots or celery sticks.

Let's be COMPLETELY fair and say that most plans work. People fail. Lack of willpower, lack of commitment, and lifestyles that go against the premise of the plan all contribute to failure or lack of results. There are THOUSANDS of plans out there, and honestly, most work. Yes, some require higher levels of commitment than…

Nice Happenstance! With 4 hours, I'm sure you could still manage to squeeze in some shopping and hiking! Vancouver is a beautiful city. Glad to see you made it home safely Meisje! Rest up, and I'm sure we'll see you Bringing IT shortly. Good morning everyone!

Many people find once they cut out most dairy it becomes easier to drop the weight. Like I said, arguments will be made for dairy, and I'm not here to say if it's right or wrong, but the fact is, humans can live without it. Many cultures even consider it barbaric that we drink the milk of other animals. As far as raw milk,…

Way to push yourself Georg! I couldn't get motivated to start last night but I just did it and after I was glad I did!

Handful of nuts, protein shakes, a couple ounces of cheese. Those all add up fast.

WTG! Get rid of those bigger clothes...then you won't have anything to go back to should a few pounds creep back up on you. Don't let weight be your main measure of success though...from my highest to now, I only lost 13 pounds, but now that I exercise, I wear 2-3 sizes smaller than I did before (12 to a 6/8). Hopefully…

Could you post a sample menu from a day or two?

Yeah I don't believe you need to eat your exercise calories...I don't. Before joining this site I'd never heard such a debate over it. Now I see one almost every day.

Those cookies have no power over you. They are inanimate objects (though they seemingly taunt you until you give in). I just think, am I helping or hurting myself by eating this? Nutritionally, what does this do for me? I work out very hard, so will this help or hurt my athletic performance? Is 5 seconds of chewing…

Also forgot to mention Tom Venuto's Burn the Fat Feed the Muscle book. VERY worthy and accepted, but perhaps too strict for many people.

South Beach and Sonoma have good recipes that are clean and really good. Clean Eating the magazine is great too. I don't follow either of them to a T as neither of them are revolutionary, but the recipes alone make it worth the purchase. Also, the basic concepts are what all popular nutrition plans emphasize these days.…

Yeah I listened to her too and she said if you were close to your goal weight (5-10 lbs of vanity weight) then you didn't need to create as big of a deficit. However, if you are more than 10-15 lbs overweight, your body doesn't need as much fuel because it has reserves ( think she said something along the lines of 5 tanks…

Well team, Against my own will, I posted a few progress pics. Anybody else have their's up yet? Let's see them! M

Yep, no spot reduction possible. If you're only doing ab workouts and no other exercise, you could have a 6-pack under layers of fat, but you'd never see it without cardio and overall body fat reduction. Like Dave said, protein powder is a good way to get your protein without the extra fat and calories. But make sure you…

Hey Osmium! Awesome on the Couch 2 5K. I am going to do it soon I think. You've inspired me! A word on the sodium. Simple answer, yes. Sodium is a big factor in water retention and why the scale won't budge sometimes. Now, we all realize that it is nearly impossible to avoid sodium at all costs, and it is vital for a…

Are you making sure to drink at least 8 ounces of water with your protein bars? I find that this keeps me full for around 3 hours, but if I slack on the water then I get a little pang...
