  • I weigh myself almost every day unless I forget. However, I don't get discouraged by what I see on the scale. If I've gained a pound after a weekend of eating unhealthily, it just affirms my need to get back on track. If I've gained a pound for seemingly no reason at all, I just assume it's water weight or somehow related…
  • Thanks for the info... I'll have to edit my blog post and note that, since it might be something people are interested in. White flour appears to have some negative affects on me personally, but that's just me. I'll have to weigh out the pros and cons once I research it more. And I don't eat much Ezekial bread…
  • Edit: I just can't seem to help but defend myself!! lol what is wrong with me!? But I do have a genuine question: As for the Ezekial bread, you're giving me completely new info (which I love)! I always read that sprouted grains were a "superfood," and though I can't remember off the top of my head why fitness expert and…
  • Thank you so much for this useful information. Agave is too expensive anyway! Do you have any suggestions about alternatives? I'm usually someone who prefers salty treats, but every once in a while I crave sweets. Unfortunately, I really hate the taste of stevia. What do you do instead? Also: When I get a chance, I will…
  • Alright, they were TIPS not rules. Under every tip, I said what I do, and did not point the finger at you saying that if you don't do this, you won't lose weight. Do you think i'm perfect? Read my food diary--I'm far from it. But when I do these things, I feel good and lose weight. Most of what I've learned and tried is…
  • The key word was ONLY. Meaning that by ONLY restricting calories (and not exercising or eating the right foods), I did not get the results I wanted--I'd lose some weight and then my body would adapt and I'd either have to eat fewer and fewer calories or just settle for the small weight I did lose (which then always came…
  • I'm glad I could help those who appreciated my genuine attempt to try to offer good, solid advice--because that's what it is. I appreciate all the kind words and support. I had about 10 friend invites as a result of this blog post from people who wanted to use my experience as a motivator, and I'm not only flattered, but…
  • AND YES, DEAR GOD, YES I AM TALKING ABOUT OVERALL HEALTH. That should go without saying.
  • I have no problem being challenged. You could very easily accept that I have a different opinion and stop putting words in my mouth or trying to make a mountain out of a mole hill. I was not insinuating anything. By saying "I don't accept mediocrity," I was simply trying to express that the reason I follow such a strict…
  • When did I ever say my way was the only way? Please show me where. Well, you can't. Because that's not what I think! On the contrary, YOU were the one who said that a calorie deficit WAS THE ONLY WAY, and I simply said it was one way. There are probably millions of ways to lose weight. In my post, I very clearly said that…
  • Wow! I will definitely look into that! I love getting new information like this!! Thank you so much!!! I don't usually eat much agave (mainly because it's so darn expensive), but I will DEFINITELY keep your info in mind. If you don't mind my asking, where did you get this information? I'd like to know more about it. lol I…
  • That's fantastic (and no, i'm not being sarcastic). But please look at the title of my blog post, and remember that it wasn't directed toward people who are satisfied with their weight loss. And your statement, "The only thing makes you lose weight is a calorie deficit" is simply not true. It is ONE thing that makes you…
  • This post is really about what works for me and what people should consider if they are having a hard time--it's not the be all, end all of how to lose weight. That's why they are "tips." This is not the only way to lose weight, because if it were, I'd sell the tips and not put them on the internet...but it's how I got…
  • rml_16, But your profile says that you are thin? I'm confused...
  • Yes, something is definitely wrong. It's a shame that a doctor would send you away without answers. You might also want to consider seeing a nutritionist.
  • You are either at a healthy weight or something is wrong--get your thyroid checked asap and ask your doctor about what else could be wrong.
  • I specifically said not to eat the exact same thing every day and to have just a few staples meals and snacks you enjoy and to change it up once you are bored with them--it should be understood that I meant healthful meals and snacks that won't make you "big as a house." I didn't realize I had to spell that out... I make…
  • It depends on your lifestyle and how much you're going over in terms of protein. I do a pretty rigorous workout schedule of strength training and anaerobic cardiovascular exercise, so I need extra protein and aim for a ratio of 40% carbs, 30% protein, and 30% fat, but it's dangerous to be overwhelmingly over in protein. It…
  • This is important advice. You may have lost muscle mass through dieting (it's bound to happen), and if you try to eat more in order to stop losing weight, you're more likely to gain weight. Having more muscle mass speeds up your metabolism big time.
  • Can you be more specific about your advice to "take a few weeks, or even a few months, completely off of dieting"? I think without a proper explanation, this could be construed as a recipe for disaster (no pun intended). Do you mean that she should take a few months off of eating a diet with a caloric deficit?
  • This is a very good point. You shouldn't feel exhausted from losing weight--you shouldn't feel anything energized and rejuvenated!! Have you ever seen a nutritionist or had a personal trainer? You might need to re-evaluate how you've been going about weight loss.
  • People tell me not to lose any more weight too, because I don't "need" to. And if I never lost another pound, I'd honestly be perfectly satisfied; however, I still may or may not lose more weight because I intend to continue to eat healthy and exercise regularly. Honestly, sometimes I think people say to stop losing weight…
  • I had a nutritionist tell me that each dress size you lose is generally 10lbs and I've found that to be about right in my own experience, so you'd want to lose about 30 lbs, since women's dress sizes run only in even numbers. Although, if you don't mind a little advice: don't focus on the numbers so much. I got on the…
  • I just posted on this very topic! Check out my latest blog post called 12 Tips for "I'm doing everything right, and still not losing weight: http://lifeafterlazy.blogspot.com/2012/02/11-tips-for-im-doing-everything-right.html Remember, eating too little can actually contribute to weight gain! Focus more on what you are…
  • I used to feel this way too, but as time goes on I feel it less and less, if ever at all. I think it comes from an even deeper issue: feeling like I was faking it or that this new body is only temporary. Once you realize that you have made a lifelong decision to be fit and healthy, it won't feel like you're a heavy person…
  • Again... I have to respectfully disagree with this advice, only because those meals did not work for me. I used to live on those frozen meals and had the same problems you are having--little to no weight loss. The high sodium should not be understated! That much sodium is bad for so many reasons--more than just…
  • I have to respectfully disagree with that first statement, and I strongly caution anyone else struggling with plateaus and the feeling of "but I'm doing everything 'right'" not to indulge in that, what I consider to be, mind boggling philosophy. Weight loss comes down to QUALITY calories in vs. low-quality calories out. As…
  • This really helped! Thank you so much!!! How do I change the settings so I have a 40/30/30 protein, carb, fat ratio?
  • You're welcome!! Definitely try those workout tips--you'll be amazed at how fast you see results (and how toned you become). Over a month ago is not a long time for your body which is meant to last for an average of 78 years. Your metabolism learns how to act based on how you fuel your body. So maybe it seems like a long…
  • Your body is probably telling you, "This is where I'm meant to be and Goddammit, I'm staying here." However, you CAN trick it with exercise. Go ahead and research "High Intensity Interval Training" and "Muscle Confusion Strength Training." Building muscle will repair your metabolism and working out anaerobically will keep…
