My boss, whose husband is a scotch drinker, describes peated scotches as those that smell of old gym socks and cigars :noway: Peat was a form of fuel in Scotland (and other countries I believe) made from decayed vegetation. It's the only thing legally allowed to be "added" to a scotch and have the end result still be…

Oban 14 has always been my favourite go-to Scotch since I was old enough for my da to give me wee sips :drinker: Then again, we have family in Oban so that might explain our fondness for it... Laphroaig Triple Wood or Quarter Casks are lovely if you prefer peated scotches. We tend to drink those more on summer nights round…

Thanks to everyone for the great advice. Now I'm going to ask another silly question but don't feel like starting a new topic so hopefully everyone will bear with me :flowerforyou: After meeting with my trainer on Friday and going over my long term goals (improved core strength so I can ride my mountain bike without…

bumping for later. Thanks so much. Waiting for my paper copy of NROLFW to arrive ;)

223.5 mi in - (6th day from Bree) Frost. Very clear. Can see crumbled ruins on Hills ahead.

Good plan. Until now my workouts have always consisted of stretching activites assigned by my physiotherapist, long walks after dinner or climbing stairs at work on breaks. For the walks and stair climbing there's always been some food involved. I guess that while I do consider walks and stairs exercise, I just never…

Thanks. I'm walking to the gym which is about 15-20 minutes from my house. Would that be sufficient for a warm-up or will it be negated by getting there and needing to change clothes/shoes? I can always plan to get there earlier and do some time walking on a treadmill or indoor track.

Are you able to eat nuts? If so, I'm told they're an excellent way to get more calories in. If you choose the shelled or unsalted type, I expect they'd be lower in sodium as well.
-
I'm with you. Granted, the biscuits would likely be out for me. Celiac + nut allergy makes this a death cake for me. Even if you could make it with gluten free ingredients, the M&M's aren't safe...

Perfect! I shall move all the dog beds (begging for trouble there) to a different part of the room and trying lying down in the space that's left. If that's not sufficient I guess hubs will need to move his big clunky chair out of the way
-
Just wondering - how much physical space in your room do you need to do the activities on the DVD? I have a small room and may need to re-organize everything in it before I can begin if the space requirements are large. Thanks.

Walking 10km and 65 flights of stairs. May push that to 75 flights if my knee decides to behave.

Breast reduction. The girls haven't gone anywhere and if they don't start shrinking soon I'm getting them lopped off. With hubs blessing of course. ** I've already got 10 tattoos. As soon as hubs finishes his sleeve I'll start saving the $$ to finish my back **

Measuring tapes may help more than scales. When I first started changing my lifestyle my scale didn't move for weeks. My pant size dropped though. Sometimes the "non scale victories" (NSV) can keep you motivated instead of focusing on a number.

After a nasty car accident (too many years ago to continue accepting the blame for my current state) I ended up with a bazillion broken bones and a head injury. I can't became part of my mantra and in no time I went from a competitive dancer & rugby player to sloth. I was no where near the person my husband had married. In…

201.84 - Reach eastern edge of the Marshes. Can see Weather Hills ahead. Land starts to rise. Land drier and very barren. A few birds.

Our other cats are Grendel and Beelzebub. The dogs are Fenris Wolf (although, she's actually 1/2 coyote), Hypnos and Zoe. We roam all over the mythology spectrum. ;)

We have cats as well as dogs. Once, a long, long time ago, I bought into the kool-aid and tried to teach my beloved Thanatos (now deceased) to walk on a leash. Needless to say, she won the first and all proceeding battles and happily went back to being a 100% indoor cat. All our cats love(d) sitting on window sills but…

We have three rescues - 1 GSD/Coy cross (Fenris - 14), 1 GSD/Malamute (Hypnos - 8), and 1 Chi/Terrier cross (Zoe - 2-ish). Our oldest still loves to go on long loping walks but they are at a much slower speed these days and she can't walk every day. Fenris is more of a bi-weekly walker at this point as her hips have…

Sizes are definitely different these days. I pulled some old boxes of clothes out of storage over the summer that were all in the 5-7 range and purchased in the early 90s. Now my tags tell me I mostly wear clothes in the 3-7 size range but I couldn't have gotten on anything from the old boxes if I'd tried! I don't even…

I lost over 50 lbs with walking as my only real exercise a few years ago. Went from huffing and puffing trying to walk a km to routinely walking 8-10km a day. I did change my diet significantly during that time. I didn't eat 100% healthy - more like 80-20 - but I did get into a habit of counting my calories, weighing and…

I lost 65 lbs pre MFP and constantly saw myself in the mirror as the same fat chic. I took a year off to maintain before trying to lose the last 25 lbs and a few months into that year I caught a reflection of myself in a shop window. I had to do a double take before I realized it was me. We have these mental pictures of…

5 TVs? How did you manage? How did you find room for them? I've always lived in a 1 TV household and I just can't imagine finding space for an additional TV in our home.
-
I just can't cut out the TV (yet!). The weather just isn't nice enough for long walks outside. That said, I do not watch TV unless I'm walking on my treadmill. Putting the treadmill in direct line of sight has got to be the best thing we've done in years. I grab the remotes and stick them in one of the water bottle…

I think it can work but I'm pretty sure all the ground rules need to be set well in advance. This would involve a significant amount of conversation surrounding what you both believe and what you're willing to allow children to experience. That said, my mother is Catholic. My father was Protestant. They're from the auld…

I adored the mid-90's tv version so of course I'll have to see it. Besides, it's Tim Burton. Awesomesauce. Silly trivia learned in HS - the author of the Dark Shadows book(s) was from my home town...

That's my take as well. I want to enjoy the movie so I won't bother with the book until after. I find taht if I've read the book first I tend to be frustrated by movie versions. If I see the movie first I can enjoy it for what it is AND still enjoy the book later.

Exactly my take on it. TMMT as Aliens? Blech!
