  • I can totally relate! The more I "just do it", the less I feel pressured, and almost always a pleasant surprise when I step on that scale.
  • Wow, that's a bit crazy to count penne...but then again, it is easier than figuring out "a fistful of penne". Oh girl, I was just trying to get away from counting! :)
  • Professional counselling is good, but so is self-tracking. I have never gone to counselling for BED. Over the years I began to see a pattern, started to track and ask myself questions etc. My husband also acts as an excellent observer and supporter. I would be lying to tell you that I have solved the whole mystery of BED…
  • What confusion? Never confused, I know exactly how much to eat down to the .00 digit. NOT :) Thanks for the info!!!!!
  • Check the labels. If you are getting things from a bakery (sans label), you can always find similar/equivalent items that come with labels.

  • Hi Lea, thank you, welcome and flattered that we get your first post :) I totally agree with your advice. BED or not, nutrition-packed food is so important My tracking was totally focused on calories for 3 years, as I wanted to focus on (1) learning portion control (2) weight loss - results encourage more life changes (3)…
  • I am 5'3" and 110.5-113.5. With muscles. So I can definitely tell you - please do not worry about those 6 pounds, you are healthy NOW.
  • The need to control - aka willpower - is the one of the underlying reasons behind BED. That's why it does not work. Don't be disappointed. If you can let go of what happened, and figure out why you binge (or the triggers), you are already having an excellent start. A few things I have discovered/be reminded of: 1. It is a…
  • Have not read the whole thing (yet), but cal counting is a good educational tool for beginners. But obsesseive cal counting for life, that is not healthy. I know because I experienced a backlash after reaching my goal and feeling sooo tired of having numbers in my head all the time!
  • You will be underweight if you lose 6 pounds IMO. But some muscle tones would be good for you, just because you look a bit skinny-fat to me...not a bad thing, you are probably young and not into strength training. For overall health, it would be nice to tone up (as in, focus on building muscles as opposed to reducing…
  • Found the answers. I know this has been discussed to death before :) In case you are interested: - De Cecco Spaghetti DRY - 85g (dry) = 1/6 box = 3 oz = 300 Calories - 57g (dry) = 2 oz = 201 calories COOKED (2 oz dry = 1 cup cooked) - 1 cup = 201 calories Approximates only of course.
  • Go to the "Binge Eating Group'. Lots of good support and advice there. QUick point - do NOT look back. Just move on and treat your setback as part of the journey. I know it is easier said than done, but I totally know what you mean. Also, it is important to "fix" your mental health first...the rest - good eating, weight…

  • Discuss with your doctor. And don't go too "cold turkey", as someone mentioned, and cut cals too drastically. You have such a healthy food log, congrats! (put me to shame :))
  • Sleepy --> Binge --> Sleepy. A bad cycle :( It is ridiculous, if you think of it, how a normally rational adult would let him/herself get so tired to the point of eating up the kitchen sink! But we all do that sometimes.
  • I don't have cholesterol problems. Wondering though, do all doctors agree? I have seen a list from dr that still rules out egg yolks and butter. Personally, unless with medical advice, I believe in moderation in everything. Those "clean" diet....not for life IMO. Be good most of the time, know your stuff, but never turn…
  • The way I interpret the whole article is: no need to stay away from egg yolk. In fact, have some. But beware that yolks do contain more fat (and cals if you are counting). So to get the best of both worlds, cook with whole eggs...if your recipe needs a lot, sub a few with egg whites only.
  • Wow, you are patient! I would just scrambled everything. Egg mix = just eggs or with a bit of flour and milk? If it is like quiche....or "muffin", I would definitely wait for 25 minutes :)
  • She (or her team) likely get their info from various sources. However, she seems very consistent in her writing style, so I think those are her words, but the info definitely not proprietary in any way.
  • I am 5'3" and definitely know that 100 is too low for me. So no girl, you can even put on some pounds. Flab - are you talking about no muscle tones or fat over muscles? Either case, I would keep doing what you have been doing, combining cardio and strength training. Up your calories a bit. Pilates is a core transformer,…
  • I am 45, 5'3", 110-112 lbs. I definitely recommend a good mix of cardio (whatever level you are at, HIIT works well), strength training (check out bodyweight, free weight, resistance....anything to get your started) and flexibility training. I do Pilates, HIIT, and a whole bunch of stuff like dance, Jillian Michaels etc. I…
  • Thanks! I actually come from the old school of lifting (gym, machine, single muscle group movement) which explained why I never liked working out till now :) I am definitely going back to strength training now and appreciate your recommediations re compound movements. Way better than isolated ones. Now that I am paying…
  • Thank you for sharing - and more in the future hopefully! I like your approach, starting with DEXA etc. I should do that too, especially since I want to pay more attnetion to my fat%. I am quite sure I am average/OK throughout. I have physical exams every year and my numbers have been excellent. At my age (45) and size, I…
  • I started when I was 42/43 without a specific weight loss goal. Just needed to "do something". Now I have lost 22+ pounds, became a workout bunny in my 40s, give advice to friends, and...realistically..still face new challenges but way better to fall, get back up, and move forward. What works for me (1) Find an exercise…
  • I am on my second Polar. I have to say, I love it when it works..but so many ways for it to stop working, sigh. As others said 1. Wash strap properly 2. Replace battery In my experience, these are the only 2 things you can do, provided you are wearing the strap properly of course. If neither works, time to get a new strap.
  • Not the exact answer but a suggestion. If you freeze your stock, you can always remove the top layer of frozen fat before using. That really is where most of the calories are anyway, I think.
  • Depends on what you mean by Full. Do you feel absolutely stuffed? Or satisfied? Or, as you said, NOT hungry? Being in the state of satiation is NOT a bad thing. Not feeling hungry is not a guilt. I am a bit concerned about your question because it seems to be going into the direction of an unhealthy attitude towards…
  • Not gimmick. Do a search on MFP and other shopping sites like amazon.com. Worth investing.
  • Oh, I started a thread called "Like Fitnessblender. Any other similar sites?" - lots of good suggestions there for you to try from home.
  • Cliche it may be, but I cannot stress enough about LOVING what you do. I was not atheltic but for a while subscribed to the old school gym (teeny bit cardio, weight machine, free weights). I got some good results but DREADED every session. In the past few years, partly because of the home workout movements and the…
