Baked apple!

..oh, and as some people have mentioned, professional help is recommended. You still need to learn to self-manage, but it's wise to get some directions. Good luck!

Calories tracking can go against ED recovery. Ironically cal tracking is also got a lot of us (here on MPF) lost weight in the first place. I did not have a lot to lose but I did gain a totally new lifestyle (track, love workout etc)....tilll ED came back. And this was a surprise relapse as I have not binged for many…

For the family - Apples - Bananas - Broccolli - Spinach (frozen and baby) - Large carrots - Some kind of bread (we don't totally stay away from white...but these days we tend to go for Wonder's Invisible Whites which is actually WW. But we alternative, white, brown, rye, bakery or store, whatever) - Chicken, minced beef,…

Thanks everyone!!

Just want to say, thank you, one of the most concise and clear explanations I have read :)

You are not alone. Yours seems like a textbook case of binge-eating disorder - I (and many others here) am familiar with the scenario and how frustrating it can be! You can be otherwise logical and healthy, but once you are in the "binge trance", you are helpless. Here's my advice (and I am going through a cycle…

Oh, yes, my dr also recommended 1000UI.

You can get tested. In fact, my dr just ordered me to have a test. For Vit D, I am advised to take supplements because it is hard to get enough from sun (Canada long winters) or food.

Yes, it may be hard to believe, but many of us are as knowledgable as you are when it comes to the hard maths re: weight gain/loss, calories tracking etc. The OP is asking if her counting is causing her stress and binge-eating. She is not asking for advice re: specific calories. Mental health is a BIG part of health, and…

Interesting how you read what I wrote. Short answer: no.

According to a certain formula, yes. But human bodies adjust. Unless you are 100% sure about exactly how much you are burning (24/7) and exactly how your body is taking in (to the 1 cals), those 50 +/- is really a generic guideline. If someone is stressing out over 50 calories a day (that's like 8/10 of a spartan apple),…

The counting and deprivation is NOT doing you any good, I can tell. Quite a few of us had reached that stage after successful weight loss / increased workout....while you are already at a good weight/range, you are spending a LOT of energy (mind and body) to maintain it. I was/am in the same boat. Here my suggestions -…

Hi there, I was about to start a recomp when (a) I had a relapse of 2-months-long binge eating (b) knee injury and flu so reduced workout. So, sad to say, the weight gain is not muscle-related. However, it is water-related due to the antibioltic course I am on plus lack of lymphatic drainage (intensive workout). I do not…

I found a better way to describe my confusion... (1) Am I just using fluctuation or set point as an excuse to not re-lose those pounds? (2) Am I too married to the "perfect number" mindset?
-
Wow, I NEVER looked at it this way. I just focused on having reached 111...and now not anymore. THANK YOU for a wise reminder!
-
Yes, absolutely, I agree! It was a very brief and generic statement I have made. BED or any ED runs deep and not a matter of simple tracking or not tracking. People who have attended support groups/formal therapies have also reported conflicting schools of thoughts re: track/not track to manage BED. I am in the same boat…

My body and mind were quite happy at 111...but that was also the time I had NUMBERS in my head all the time, due to tracking cals-in-cals-out! I know that cannot be healthy in the long run. Quite a few of us have discussed that tracking can trigger BED. THe logical part of me totally knows that I should focus on health,…

Good visual! Thanks.

thanks!

You can lose weight no matter what you do, as long as you burn more calories than what you have consumed. But for overall fitness, you need strength-training (for muscles and bones, for strength), cardio (for heart and lung) and flexibility stuff like Yoga. My initial loss - about 10 pounds - was all Pilates. Then I…

I think FT4 is one of those models where you cannot change the battery yourself. You need to go to a watch shop. I did that once...but now I have a new one and they highlighted the fact that users can DIY.

I understand where you come from, totally. I know a lot about depression (not suicidal...but definitely super chronically tired) and have been on medication for many years. The way I see it, the drugs help my biochemical imbalance, and then I use workout, good support system, self tracking etc to maintain good mental…

Lost 23 and fell in love with hard core workout. My journey started when I was 42. Baby steps really work. Find something you LIKE. If running is not your thing, find something else. So many fun stuff out there to get your pumped :) Good luck. Oh, I was rather sedentary before, so seriously, it is not difficult, as long as…

Keep up with the good approach and progress!

I have been well for about a week. Eat, exercise, nice and calm. I am frustrated that my knee is injured and cannot work out at max ....exercise always help me get out of a rut. Still, progressing. Black hole - arrggh, it REALLY feels like one. But crawling out of it more efficiently these day, hope it is the same for you!…

Yes - that would be THREE victories for you last week!!

I know! I have had a bad knee for over 20 years (ALC totally torn, skiing accident). I could never run or jump...till I started Pilates 3 years ago. The rest was history...guess I am just being impatient about losing that new found excitement because of the stupid new injury. Thank you for the sage advice!

Just to clarify - as you have raised lots of good points - I don't do super heavy lifting. I prefer isometric and bodyweight which has re-aligned my body really well and gives me a very strong core (abs and back). I am, however, getting back to lifting more for the upper body, as I find that it is more effectively…

Hi there, I was not clear. I do all round - HIIT, weights, bodyweights, pilates, etc. My OLD knee problem was all fixed thanks to Pilates. I even have a reformer at home. I have been doing all forms of cardio + strength + flexibility. HIIT is ideal for me in many ways, though I mix and match others. To hit that 140 zone -…
