  • Log everything. I go over by a few calories here or there about 50% of the time. I do know that I used to go over by a few hundred when I wasn't tracking all the time. For sure the tracking makes the difference. S
  • Managed to get on the trainer for a 1 hour spin tonight BEFORE Christmas Eve dinner :)
  • 1674.44 + 6.05 = 1680.49 Out and around for a 9.76km run checking out Christmas lights tonight. Crisp and chill without being brutally cold or snowy. S
  • 1658.01 + 16.43 = 1674.44 A 9.5km run on Friday in a hard tempo. Followed up with a long steady run on Monday of 17km.
  • I'm only 3 years older than my wonderful girlfriend. She often tells me I'm the youngest guy (relative to her age) that she's ever dated. Of course she also thinks I'm as immature as a 16 year old boy most of the time too :) I wouldn't change a thing.
  • 1573.64 + 8.37 = 1582.01 Decided to run to work this morning to get a kick start to my birthday. 13.5km in 1h 12m. Felt good, nice and steady. S
  • 1544.31 + 9.61 = 1553.92 Again, only the one run this week (ug, two weeks in a row!), but life was getting in the way. Exercise in general was way down. Still, a nice Sunday morning 15.5km run out and around in the rather chilly weather. A brisk and good way to start the day. Sean
  • Congrats on the marathon! You should feel free to include a race report for the fun races, give us all a chance to learn something eh? S
  • It's clear from the pics and the numbers that you are getting healthier and slimmer! Congratulations on all the hard work with the very obvious pay off. Nicely done!
  • heh, I'm sooooo going to say that to the next kid I see with pants near their knees :)
  • For a proper FIT, you'll need to already have your bike. Bike geometry between Tri and Road bikes are different, so it won't be a one size fits all. Price point, I'd go with a road bike (for various reasons), you can usually get more bike for your money at the lower end on the price scale. You may find a smoking deal…

  • 1359.29 + 8.9 = 1368.19 My only run of the week, ug. But a nice 14.3km around Burnaby Lake in the trails with a buddy. Felt like I was dying out there for the first 10km then it finally started to feel okay. There was still ice on the puddles after 80 minutes of running! a bit chilly indeed.
  • Yoga for flexibility Core strengthening (planks, Vsits, crossovers, etc...) Pull ups / downs ... and BRIcks (Bike Run Ick!) :) Have an awesome first season. You only get one of those so make the best of it and have a blast!
  • I plan on doing everything on the A, B, and C lists. But realistically, only the A race matters. "A" Race Ironman Canada - August 26 (<12h) "B" Races UBC Olympic Triathlon - March 11 (<2:45) Oliver Half Ironman - June 3 (<5:45) Desert Half Ironman - July 8 (<6h) "C" Races Resolution Run 5km - January 1 (<22:30) Vancouver…
  • perhaps, as counter-intuitive as it seems, married people or people in relationships are more likely to be trying to do something about fitness and weight control?
  • 1225.28 + 6.86 = 1232.14 11.07km of running in the rain today. Nice and easy zone 1 (almost) for 60 minutes. Heart is getting stronger. S
  • There is an ultraman race out here that has a 10km swim on day 1. Its a goal for sometime in the future (5+ years out). The idea of swimming for that long is mind boggling to me.

  • Easy accessories... 1. bike shoes and proper clips (race clips, not commuting clips, they provide a better base and are in the same price range) 2. CO2 air system. It's fast, and a useful thing to practice with if you want to have it on race day. 3. lots of water bottles and places to put them 4. bento box (for holding…
  • Treadmills usually report in miles. Good luck with things! S
  • 1128.07 + 3.53 = 1131.60 30 minute treadmill run following 60 minutes on the bike. Brick sessions are tough on the legs and motivation. I found it really difficult to keep my heart rate down and had to slow down to a jog a few times. S
  • depending on how major and sharp the pain is, I'm tempted just to think it might be a stitch. The best way to combat those is through controlling your breathing and heart rate. Does it happen only when you are tired or out of breath? Does it happen on both sides equally? How long does it take to go away? Does it happen if…
  • I went to a 310xt from the 305 for a few main reasons: 0. battery life. this was probably the biggest factor. 8 hours wasn't enough. 1. waterproof. I wanted it in the swim. 2. form factor. it fits better and is more comfortable. If you are not going up to half or full iron (yes, 8 hours is enough for a half iron as long as…
  • There are a lot of good bits in that article calderst, thank you!
  • I exercise because I have to. I've picked a goal race and need to do the training required to get to the start line and actually make it through the race. My race allows 17 hours for people to complete, but my goal this year is 12 hours. I am starting to eat healthy because I have to. Exercise alone can get me to the…
  • 1098.14 + 10.1 = 1108.24 Wooo hoo, I finally carried us over a milestone ;) bsyres2, we are always looking for more folks to add mileage. Good luck on your first half! 16.22km today on a long slow run keeping mostly in zone 1. wasn't feeling the love at all until about 8km in the middle of a massive hill. felt great after…
  • Congrats on signing up for your first 5km! Woo hooo! Tips for your best and most memorable race day : 1. It's your first race, get someone to take a picture of you before and after and heck, in the middle of the race if you can arrange it. You'll proudly remember doing this race in years go come, have something to look…
  • Everyones hit it right on the head, run what makes you happy. I started out with shorter distances and got the bug for running longer and faster. Then it was triathlons. The longer triathlons and longer runs. Now I'm contemplating switching to ultra marathons after doing my next full iron. A year ago a friend asked me to…
  • 1082.48 + 5.77 + 6.01 = 1094.26 Who's going to carry us over 1100? Two treadmill runs in two days. Man they suck, but I was being wimpy about the weather and having to run alone and be bored. So, the treadmill it was. 5.77mi in 50 minutes on Thursday 6.01mi in 54 minutes on Friday (4 minute walk cool down at the end) S
  • I had two mantras that carried me through Ironman, specifically the run at the end which was hard, and painful and very humbling. “The swim makes us hard, the bike makes us tough, but the run makes us Iron." and “I will get there if I can get there. I can get there so I WILL get there.” that last one was what made it…
  • Bengal Spice is awesome :) Twinnings Earl Grey for breakfast at work though (and only 2 calories ;) ) But there is a place here in Vancouver called Granville Island Tea that has an incredible loose leaf tea called Market Spice. it's my absolute favourite. If you like Bengal Spice I think you would love this.
