  • The Walmarts around here are hit or miss on meat and produce, but as others have mentioned, it's pretty obvious whether the produce isn't great (same as any grocery store). And the prices of eggs and milk and dairy are higher than the local grocery stores. If I need to stock up on frozen veggies, canned tuna, oats,…
  • I had Kebab flavor-coated peanuts when I was in Amsterdam. Those were amazing.
  • Shrimp (I even pick the tiny ones out of egg rolls), black licorice, celery. Can't drink V-8 juice and most Bloody Mary mixes because of that one. As soon as I can smell celery, the gag reflex is engaged :\
  • Ecto Cooler! Even so many years later, I really get a craving for it every once in a while. And Cheetos Paws (not sure if that's the official name, but they were paw-shaped), Snapple Elements, Shark Bites fruit snacks.
  • Once in a while, I'll do a sweet version by adding a splash of vanilla extract and dash of cinnamon to the eggs. I'll cook it in coconut oil or butter, then top with some chopped nuts and/or sliced fruit. Pecans and banana are my favorite combo. So I suppose that's more like a crepe than an omelette, but a nice change of…
  • Whenever I have black beans for dinner, I save a serving for my breakfast the next day. I attempt an omelette with them, but it usually turns into more of a scramble. Then I top it with salsa so it's not so watery.
  • Celery! I pick it out of stir fries, soups, stuffing at Thanksgiving, and anything containing raw celery I won't eat because I can still smell it. Even the odor makes me gag. I can't drink V-8 juice because to me it smells like celery.
  • I like using it to make an Italian-style chili. Starts with ground turkey, or the Italian seasoned Jennie-O kind. Then I add diced eggplant, zucchini, peppers, garlic, can of diced tomatoes, can of drained white beans and seasonings. I usually top my serving with low fat mozzerella or stir in some ricotta to make it…
  • Vitamin D, 2000 IU twice a day (doctor recommended) because of deficiency. And occasionally Vitamin C in the colder months when fresh produce is crappy.
  • Nice knives, crockpot, and my Misto oil misting gadget. I was surprised about that. A bottle of nice olive oil lasts about 4 times as long now.
  • Cooked like a pancake. Mix together half a cup of old-fashioned oatmeal, a quarter cup of low-fat cottage cheese, two eggs, and a dash each of vanilla extract, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Process in a blender until smooth. You can add in fresh or frozen blueberries or banana slices now if you want, then cook the mixture like a…
  • Growing up, my dad always ate it with pickled beets. Can't say I'm a fan of that combo, but he loved it. A coworker eats it with tuna and chopped up celery. Personally, I prefer it savory, just some fresh ground pepper on top.
  • Dried beans and lentils are inexpensive and are good sources of protein.
  • I'll second the suggestion of trying almond milk, I usually pick up the unsweetened vanilla version. That's what I like best for oatmeal or cereal or smoothies.
  • We have a Misto (I think paid $10 for it), but it's metal, not see-through. Happy with it, though.
  • You could use the noodles, pork and peanut butter in a dish similar to these: http://allrecipes.com/recipe/peanut-butter-noodles/ http://www.womansday.com/recipefinder/szechuan-noodles-pork-recipe-122284 You might not have all the ingredients, and need to toss in whatever frozen veggies you have on hand.
  • Foo Fighters! All 4 times I've seen them live were amazing.
  • Another fan of plain with lots of fresh ground pepper here! I've also tossed it in the food processor with garlic and other herbs and made a veggie dip out of it. The pancake is a good one, too. I added blueberries to mine.
  • I like rinsing them, then heating them up with some diced bell peppers, onion, a bit of cayenne and cilantro, and a splash of lime juice.
  • Probably the closest thing to Tex/Mex in a chain would be Chili's. They do list their nutritional information: http://www.chilis.com/EN/LocationSpecificPDF/MenuPDF/001.005.0000/Chilis%20Nutrition%20Menu%20Generic.pdf?AspxAutoDetectCookieSupport=1 Hacienda is another small chain:…
  • Usually the liquid is half water, half skim or almond milk. My go-to additions are cinnamon and a few raisins and slivered almonds. Unless I have leftover pumpkin puree from a recipe, then I stir in about a tablespoon of that and some pumpkin pie spice. If I'm cooking up a batch of steel cut to have over a few days, I…
  • It's usually less expensive to buy yogurt in the larger quart containers and portion out what I want. The calories listed on it are usually for a full cup, but I tend to only want half cup servings. And I've found that the unsweetened low fat store brand actually has less calories and sugars than the name brands. I like to…
  • I like some kick in my soups, so I've made this recipe at least a dozen times (Makes a LOT, but it freezes beautifully): http://glutenfreegoddess.blogspot.com/2007/02/rustic-chicken-soup-for-soul.html I usually skip the potatoes, but do NOT skip the balsamic vinegar.
  • Ditto on the soup idea! I usually also include a can of diced tomatoes, because I love veggie soups with a tomato base.
  • In the slow cooker: 1. Fresh or frozen boneless chicken breasts 2. Jarred marinara sauce (enough to submerge the chicken) Cook on low 4-6 hours (closer to 6 for frozen chicken), then shred for Italian chicken sandwiches, wraps, over pasta. 3. Top with mozzerella or parmesan cheese Sometimes I'll toss in some zucchini or…
  • Canned light coconut milk for curries, unsweetened almond milk, hummus and European-style plain yogurt almost every time I go. If I'm in a homemade pizza mood, their fresh garlic herb pizza dough and a bag of arugula to top it with. I adore the triple ginger gingersnaps, but I can't buy those and not eat the entire box :(
