  • I can relate to what you are saying. It could be intimidating, but everyone of them is there for more or less the same reason, right? Everyone starts somewhere. If you are anything like me, then you sometimes give paranoia more reign than reality would support. Your pic looks great, and I bet you get more appreciation than…
  • I count my 5lb increments as "battles" in my "war". Just think how many battles you get to win! I started with only 40 - 45 to lose, but even with that, I could find it discouraging to consider how long it would take to reach target. Even now, I don't like clicking the button and getting the "If every day was like to day…
  • Start tracking and be honest with yourself. You should have no troubles making your goals. :)

  • Hi! Don't be shy  You mentioned reports twice, so I'm guessing for one of them you meant Profile? The Profile bit is a new feature of the site and a couple of people have mentioned it not being accurate, so I would just use the reports part for now until it is fixed. If not, maybe post in the Support forum where our…

  • Green tea is good for you in lots of ways, so drink it. I've heard it's used in combination with weight loss programs, but really haven't looked into that much. It's just a 0 calorie drink that tastes good (to me  ) and is reputed to be great for you, so that's enough for me.

  • As I understand it, 1 - 2 pounds for a male, 1 - 3 pounds for a female per week. I agree with what everyone says about the weight that is lost slowly being easier to keep off. I've been hearing that for years from many different sources, so I believe it. For me, I found it very de-motivating to start calculating what I…
  • All of the above is true, but I wouldn't consistantly try to be too high. I use this page as a guide. Universities have no reason to lie. :) http://www.mckinley.uiuc.edu/Handouts/macronutrients.htm I am curious: I had to cut out a lot of meats. Not because of the protien, but because of the calories. I used to live on the…
  • Welcome! Remember, when you least feel like doing it, that's when you should the most!
  • Sounds like a reasonable goal. You don't really look like you need it, but here's to health!
  • Gained 5 myself. Lost 3, got back 2, lost another, got back 2 more... Whew, I am glad it is finally over! Let the downward trend begin! Again.
  • Heheh that reminds me of when my dog was a puppy. I was so concerned she got enough exercise in early development I was up at 4:30 to walk her every morning before work. All my socks were stained blue from walking thru the field. (I had blue sneaks at the time.) Anyway, welcome and good luck. Be honest with the food diary…
  • ...But you are beautiful inside! Now get to work because you CAN do it. How's that?

  • Weekends are just hard times for us. The Holidays in general were a body-weight roller coaster and weekends are just mini versions of that for me. I try to assume that I Will eat some "luxuries" but try very hard to not go too much overboard. I can usually get thru the day alright, but sometimes only with the…
  • Sadly, it is society that has given some people this idea of what they need to be and how to get it. Also sadly, it is young ladies in the late teens, early 20's that primarily post this kind of stuff. There is probably a phsycological premise for it like a subconcious "need for daddy's attention" or whatever. In that…
  • I don't think anyone can upgrade on this advice. Also been a tumultuous couple of weeks. I've personally gained about 5 pounds and it's because I've been a little slack, not fad things, but I think we can both pull thru and get on track again.

  • Exactly.
  • It was worst for me the first few weeks. Always starving! After that, either I didn't feel as hungry or just didn't notice it so much. I can tell you that the amount I can eat at a time has really dropped, so I figure I just learned to be having less in my stomach.
  • Um, I don't think I did. :) But I drink a lot of green tea. That's all you need and 0 calories!!
  • It's all personal preferance and whatever helps you most is the best "weigh" to go. For fun, let me ask, what if you were at a 5 pound low one week, and had fluctuated to a 5 pound high the next week? Your actual weight might be 150, but it would seem as if you'd gained 10 pounds from one weigh-in to the next. That…
  • My new scale weighs me 3 or 4 pounds heavier. It doesn't matter; it's not all about the scale, it's about appearance and feeling, too. The scale is just a tool.
  • It seems to be the case. You will also notice that as you recalculate your daily requirements as you lose weight, your total calories target will drop. Consider: Whatever activity you do at 250 pounds involves moving around 50 pounds more than doing the same things at 200 pounds. It seems undeniably logical.
  • Wow, LJ! That is simply awesome! :flowerforyou:
  • Over the years, I've read theories ranging from 'don't eat within 2 hours before or after your workout' (the theory being that you will actually convert some fat to carbs rather than using up fresh energy) to recomendations of specialized protien drinks that should be ingested within 30 minutes after work outs (the thoery…
  • No regrets. I gained 4 and lost 'em already. With some leftovers and my scale and the MFP database in the comfort of my own home, I discovered you can really eat quite a huge turkey dinner for reasonable calories. It's all the damn pie!!
  • Gainage is way too easy! :grumble: I weigh every day. Personally, I think if you are going to "let yourself go" at certain times, I think you should also weigh every day or you might get a really nasty surprise after a month! The only time I would suggest weighing that infrequently is if you were already very disciplined…
  • I've never tried the capsules, but I drink at least a cup of green tea per day. They never give me headaches, but then I drink a lot of coffee, so I would be used to the caffeine.
  • Generally speaking, it's not bad. At least I have not heard of it being bad, the extra is just not used up in muscle maintenance/development. What percentage are you shooting for?
in protein Comment by Razboo December 2007
  • Seconded. Do stuff you can do every day for the rest of your life.

  • Discipline. And it ain't easy, I know. My better half is fond of baking and I can't eat any of it. But it's her hobby, so she bakes anyway. What is one to do? Just say No. When you think about it, think about something else. At least don't buy your own and try to consider that what is around belongs to someone else. It's a…
