  • Just hold out on him until you can see abdominal definition. (Dr. Laura comment withheld.)
  • I haven't tried tracking sugar yet, but tracking salt was a real eye opener. You just have to look for the things you eat that have it, in this case sugar, then stop eating them. Read the labels. I never had a weightloss shake. It would likely use a sweetener besides sugar I would assume (unless it's called "ironicshake"…
  • And skip the wine.
  • I got one of the Weight Watcher digital scales for Xmas. It weighs me 4 pounds heavier than my old $12 spring scale. :ohwell: I like to weigh daily at the same time every morning. Weight fluctuates, so I'm prepared for the occasional spikes and dips. Although some folks think that is a reason to only weigh weekly, I find…
  • Welcome! There is a balance to be met with regard to training (cardio or str). If you are overdoing it, it can be difficult to stay motivated. I know that's how it works for me. If you are adding calorie tracking to your already active regime, you're sure to have some results. Good luck!

  • HI!! HEARD YA THE FIRST TIME!
  • HI! ALWAYS GOOD TO SEE NEW PEOPLE ON THE SITE!
  • It's a fact. Although I think this part's balogna: "So if you’re not doing cardio, crunches are not going to help get the six-pack you’ve been hoping for. " You can get the 6 pack with the ab exercises and a correct diet. It if took cardio to lose fat, then those poor 3rd world folk would all be chubby.
  • Welcome and good luck!
  • Congrats!
  • That's just nuts. We were created/evolved to take care of that stuff just fine naturally.
  • Welcome and good luck!
  • Most people on this board that are being honest with themselves are a success story, I'm sure! Though we may have not reached our end goal yet, if anyone else is like me, then passing each 5 pound checkpoint is a major victory. I'm very close to breaking 195, which will be my 5th such victory since beginning around Oct 1.
  • I'm partial to bran flakes and - calories withstanding or not - I don't like anything sweet for a cereal. Most people would probably say they suck, but I love 'em. Browsing the shelves lately, I see there are lots out that are similarly low in calories and probably taste sweeter.
  • If you are stuck, don't forget to redo your goals. My target calories seem to go down by 10 per pound. Started 220 Oct 1 Current 197.5 Target 180 (at the moment)
  • Generally speaking, low reps with higher resistance will produce more bulk, particularly in men. High reps at lower resistance will produce great definition with less bulk. Abdominal exercises are often done with no resistance or maybe a slant board. The differences in intensity come from the number of sets and the number…
  • Congratulations!!!
  • Greetings! I just love it when personal trainers log on here. Makes me feel good when trained proffesionals get overweight, too. Yeah, misery loves company.
  • Greetings!
  • Welcome and good luck!
  • Sleep, and lots of it! I'm a 'body listener' and I think if your body is telling you it is tired, the answer must be to get more sleep! I used to roll on 6 hours per night but since the past couple of months with the exercise, I'm wanting 7.5 +. It's a bit ironic that my energy levels are waay up, yet I need more…
  • It's true! This is where the self disciplin part comes in. I am very guilty of hitting the cupboards in the late evening. I slip more often than I care to admit, and it really comes down to that one statement as the means to success: "Just don't."
  • I'm a 6 foot male. If I ate 2000 calories per day, I could gain weight according to some of the tools I've used. Just my 2 cents. IMO, it would only become a yo-yo situation IF the person stopped managing thier diet after meeting thier goal. I don't see how anyone is going to be successful in the long term if they…

  • Clearly Curves is throwing you a 'curve' with their faulty equipment and inadequately trained staff. As you say, your scale might not be state of the art, but it's going to show you pretty consistantly what has been happening with yourself. Plus the undeniable pants size thing. Sounds like success to me! I've got a…
  • Congrats!! It all gets easier as you go along. Most of the time.
  • Some of you people are just amazing. I exercise one way or another for at least an hour per day and only burn 350 - 400 cals. I don't know where you find the time to do it! I cap out at hour per day (60 - 70 min) for 'planned' exercise because that's what my doctor said is all that is needed for a healthy lifestyle. (By…
  • If ya can't beat 'em...
  • I like to cross reference activities when I can. This site's entries are pretty acurate, but it's always good to see a second opinion.
