Keep your weight loss slow and continue to work out and build muscle. I made a decision to lose weight very gradually - aiming for approximately 100 lbs over 3 to 4 years. I am about 2/3 there after about 18 months and it seems to be working for me. Rapid, dramatic weight loss may be necessary for medical reasons but for…

It is not in a mug (I make mine in a half cup bowl or small ramekin ) but I can strongly recommend the Trader Joe's reduced guilt brownie mix. There are instructions for making an individual portion on the box (the instructions say mix it with yogurt, I have used plain kefir or buttermilk instead and it still works). It…

You have made a great first step by joining this community. Great bunch of people:smile: I can relate with you about gaining weight in the healthcare setting - stress, fatigue and the constant availability of food in the hospital or clinic are constant battles for many of us. Just take it steady and keep trying!

This is my third day of level 1. I am finding it a challenge but I am noticing that I seem to have lost a couple of pounds and I had to take in my belt by an inch (will know more when I weigh in formally next week)

Recently discovered Wheat Thin sticks! Very nice but a bit high in sodium! I like honey wheat pretzels, puppadums and roasted almonds (all have quite a bit of fiber and the latter two are gluten free). I try to eat more fresh fruit than anything but I find myself looking for those savory and munchy snacks......

If there was an easy way and just one approach which worked, there would not be any overweight people, right? Life is never that simple. There is a good deal of collective expertise here. I see no harm in tapping into it. Of course, all advice needs to be taken with a grain of salt. It is up to individuals to do some…

Thanks for the replies. I can see that the pedometer might be inaccurate but my Omron is more than a step counter since it will calculate distance and the calorie function seems to take speed into account (it will register more calories for a mile walked in 15 minutes than it does for a mile walked in 25 minutes). What…

I grew up eating oatmeal porridge just with milk (the traditional Scottish way). I used to get a lot of grief from my family if I tried adding sugar or golden syrup to it). Now I add fresh fruit and either plain yogurt , milk or fat free half and half. If I have no fruit, frozen berries or unsweetened apple sauce work too.…

OK, what is the EHE diet?

You can dry the bread you have in the oven and then smash or grind it up to breadcrumb texture. However, personally I mostly use quick oats, oatmeal or oat bran. Using whole grains like quinoa works too but I find I need to add a binding agent (egg or eggwhite) to keep the loaf together after cooking.

I'm sure most of us have had temptations and cravings for foods. The weight loss program at work talked about this subject today. Two approaches that the dietician suggested were distraction (find something you would rather do than eat) or confrontation (tell yourself why you should not eat it). The main thing is that…

One day of increased eating is not going to undo everything I have worked for. I just have to make sure it IS just one day for each holiday and that I really enjoy it. Last year, I found that I simply could not eat as much as I expected and I did avoid those things that are specially calorific but not my all time…

Thanks for starting this thread. The recipes sound interesting and the suggestions are very helpful.

Sounds great. I love Nutella and the commercial wholefood versions are horribly expensive (and I thought very disappointing). Thanks to all for giving us good starter recipes and helpful comments!!

Well done!! Thanks for the inspiration!!

Whole grapes - no branches or stems! Seeds should be OK. Watch your Vitamix DVD too!

I am not going to lose 100 lbs in less than a year (I have over a hundred to lose but it has taken me more than a year to get this far). but I aim to reach a healthy weight in about 2 years and perhaps more importantly, I plan to stay there! I was reading the other posts, and though there are obviously exceptions, it seems…

Sending positive thoughts and energy to you and your family. Please keep us posted

I like RoadDog's recipe idea. I am going to try that! It might also be worth mentioning that quinoa grains are naturally covered with bitter tasting saponins (some commercial quinoa has been pretreated to remove these but the organic quinoa I bought locally was definitely in its natural state). A really good wash and a…

Congratulations! You must have worked really hard to do this in just a year.

I would like to be at my goal weight by June 2011 but I would much rather make progress slowly and improve my health and fitness than achieve my goal weight and then bounce back up

When I get a craving for something crunchy I love to eat puppadums. Tiger Tiger make good ones and they have them at our local Walmart. (though if you have an Indian grocery locally, you can probably find puppadums, puppads or poppadums a lot cheaper) 2 puppadum wafers from Tiger Tiger are 47 Calories, vegetarian and…

We have a weight loss support group once a week at work with a very accurate scale (and a link to a computer to track weight), so my weight there is the value I am using for MFP. However, that means weighing in the middle of the day, not the lightest time of the day, so to keep myself motivated I usually also weigh myself…

Best thing is it gets easier and easier to keep track intake and exercise!

Don't eat just for eating's sake but do try to consume at least 1200 calories (or you will go into starvation mode)

We love fresh sliced zuccini stewed with fresh chopped tomatoes (both out of the garden) and a little onion and seasoned with black pepper, lite salt and torn up fresh basil leaves . It tends to be a bit on the liquid side but makes a great side dish or even a quick lunch! We have to make the most of the fresh summer…

Got 9 out of 10 but can honestly say that they are mostly not things I would want to eat -ever. The portion size was poorly indicated. Have you seen the Eat This not That quiz? http://eatthis.menshealth.com/game/ (comes as a free app too)

Good advice. It may be concern but honestly, she has a funny way of showing it You might be closer to the mark when you said she told you that you are making her feel bad about herself.

These are great recipes! I have just added ricotta to my shopping list.....
