  • I have been doing this for the past month having been challenged by a friend who wanted to try it. I have lost about 100 pounds total over the past 4 yrs on MFP but my weight was creeping up despite lots of walking and tracking my intake. I weighed in after 30 days and have lost 8 lbs. I don't plan to stick to the advanced…
  • I tend to ignore the sugars in fruit, veg and dairy but try to limit what I eat in other foods especially sweets, baked goods et cetera. Basically I try to avoid processed foods but that is not to say that I don't have a cookie or something sweet from time to time, I have been on my weight loss journey for 4 years and have…
  • I try to eat healthy and unprocessed most of the time but I certainly don't beat myself up if I happen to eat unhealthy/processed or oversalted food from time to time. I don't go out and buy such things but it can be difficult to avoid them completelyi n social situations
  • You bet I do! Not only do I read nutrition labels but I also always scan the ingredients lists.
  • This is a really good idea. We tried something similar with Gnomeo and Juliet!
  • Whole wheat pita bread, cherry tomatoes, buttermilk
  • Thank you for posting this! I felt inspired just reading it. Congratularions on your journey so far. I hope you won't mind if I share your suggestions and thoughts with our weight loss group at work. Your suggestions are so practical and most of our speakers and motivators are nutritionists (or fitness…
  • Sounds like you are in a rut. Hate to tell you but maybe it is time you tried some of these other foods again with an open mind. You can eat things that simulate processed foods but are said to be "lite" (many seem to be packed with artificial sweeteners, salt and things I have problems pronouncing) and/or you can try and…
  • I can't access your food and exercise diary so give us some more information. It may be that you are building muscle (which is heavier than fat) or you might be retaining water weight. Are you eating all, or none, or a proportion of your exercise calories? How is your water intake (are you getting at least 8 glasses per…
  • Lose weight slowly and keep up with hydration and exercise and it should not be a problem. It also seems to me (purely anecdotal) that non smokers seem to have an advantage over smokers( who seem to get more wrinkly when they lose weight).
  • If you are not losing weight while keeping your goals, it may be that you are consuming too few calories and have gone into starvation mode. I kept telling myself that I was different and that if I was honest with my food journaling and religious with my exercise, I was bound to lose weight! Not so!! After several months…
  • It depends. I got up an hour earlier than usual to go to an exercise class this morning and I now feel much more energised than I would have been by an extra hour of sleep I can't sleep in anyway because I almost always get a headache if I do and the rest of the day is miserable
  • I stay away from processed foods as much as I can and this time of year is great for local fruits and vegetables
  • Good for you! It is nice when you start to see the reward from all your efforts
  • Good for you! I would suggest trying to fit some healthy food into the rest of the day too.
  • Just reading your post made me hungry for a cheese scone so I brushed my teeth!

  • I agree I don't know how accurate the machine calorie counters are. When the machine asks for my weight prior to making a calculation, I can't help thinking it may be more accurately assessing my power and calories.. I wear a pedometer when walking or running and enter those calories (again, it is calibrated by my weight).…
  • I think that is very good advice. I have been on a prolonged plateau which I have found found most frustrating. I seemed to be doing everything right but the weight remained the same. However, I have noticed that my clothes are definitely looser at the waist and bust and I had to buy a new sports bra because the old one…
  • Thanks for the link! I enjoyed looking at the diet. Did you do the ice too?
  • Glad you asked this. I need help with new scales too. Mine weigh significantly lighter than the ones in my doctor's office (maybe 10 lbs) and the ones at my mother in laws house weigh about 3 pounds lighter than mine!! I have been wondering if this is a conspiracy by home scales manufacturers to make us feel better:wink: I…
  • Thank you
  • I would go for the salmon or snapper. Eggplant can sop up lots of fat without appearing greasy and I have heard a (well documented) horror story from one of my friends who thought she was being healthy when she went out with friends but was later horrified by the online nutritional information when she encountered shrimp…
  • If it is just one day, I would not let it worry you. Just try to stay at or below the adjusted calorie goal.
  • Part of the problem is that a lot of nutritional information on food packets and even on the MFP database simply does not include the potassium levels! Look at the info for milk, for example - you really have to search hard to find infomation that gives potassium content. Green veggies are generally high, dried beans are…

  • Are you eating too little? Men seem to tolerate that better than women! Women tend to go straight into famine mode and our metablism slows way down. If I don't consume at least 1200 calories when I fill in my MFP log, I get a little message warning me about this. Slow and steady weight loss is much preferable to starving…
  • If you are consuming a LOT of calories through exercise (I was burning upwards of 600 per hour when I was moving hay bales this summer) then your body/metabolism may go into "famine mode" and not lose weight effectively. I found that I actually had to eat more to lose weight steadily over the summer. Men probably have less…
  • I think it gets easier once you get used to it! It was a revelation to discover how little I drank before I started to track it regularly. I have also found that I no longer get so many headaches now that I am well hydrated. I hate the taste of city water but manage to drink it if it is really cold or if I add ice or some…
  • If I am not hungry, I don't eat! I don't ever go less than 1200 calories but I don't get obsessive about eating all the exercise calories. I will eat up to my 1200 + exercise calories if I feel hungry enough. Seems to work for me!
  • It is the big picture that counts. Sometimes it is hard to remember it, though. I was stuck on a plateau for what seemed like months and was starting to get over obsessive because I was not losing weight as I thought I should. However, entering intake and exercise have been a good discipline and have helped keep me…
  • If there is something I really crave then I will have some - but I do control the portions. Since I have been eating healthier, I now find that some of the things I have thought I craved really don't seem to taste as good as I thought they would.... If that is the case, I find myself not eating the whole portion (and in…
