Plateau is BUSTED!

I joined MFP in January of 2011 and quickly lost 83 pounds. Then I hit the dreaded plateau. I tried everything. I did zigzagging calories, changed my workouts, spiked calories, drank more water, increased strength training, increased calories, ate all my exercise calories, cut back on them, you name it and I tried it. A few months ago I saw Tim Ferriss on Dr. Oz. I was interested in what he had to say but I was losing fine and let well enough alone. Then when I was 5 weeks into my plateau I decided to give his diet a try for at least one week to see if the scale would budge. Budge it did! As of one full week I am very happy to say I have kicked 4 more pounds to the curb and now down a total of 87 pounds! Going for another week on the diet to see if I can have another great week.

Good for you! You look amazing! My question is this though - did you take the day off and go "hog wild" as the website suggests, where "All desserts, hamburgers, dairy products, and fruits are taken out of purgatory"? I'm just curious.

I only did this diet for ONE week to bust my plateau. The 83 pounds I lost since January was by calorie counting and exercise. I am a type 1 diabetic and so I always go low glycemic index and SLOW carbs. So this diet wasn't really that bad. Unlike Adkins, he does allow beans (All types), lentils and peas as carbs. You are seriously full after each meal and I find I am not hungry at the next meal time. I am not sure I want to do this LONG term. But wanted something to knock me off my plateau and this was the only thing that worked for me and I tried it all. I also exercised the same amount of days a week but just scaled back my intensity. Instead of burning 500 to 800 calories each time I exercised, I would go no more than 300 to 350 using a HRM.

The 6 days are pretty much simple, and repetitive. I like black beans (I buy bean dry, in bulk, and cook a batch up and they last a few days in the frig), 2 whole eggs, 2 egg whites (scrambled) all mixed together in a bowl. I will add salsa, or diced tomato. That is breakfast. Lunch will be more beans or lentils mixed with various meats. Lean ground beef, lean ground turkey, chicken breast topped with avocado. Dinner is a repeat. Or I will have grilled salmon with veggies and peas.

Today is my "cheat day" and then starts my second week on the program. I will see how I weigh in on next Saturday. Then I am going to incorporate how I used to eat (which I love by the way and helped me shed 83 pounds) combined with this eating with a small "cheat day" to spike calories and see if this keeps the weight from plateauing again.

Oh, you asked about snacks. That would be cottage cheese :-)

Here is the link to the Dr. Oz episode where Tim Ferriss was on talking about The 4 Hour Body.

From there you can view parts 2 and 3. Very interesting. His book covers many areas beside diet.

Thanks :-) Yes, on shock day I ate anything I wanted and as much as I wanted. I don't crave desserts so that's not an issue for me. I did enjoy homemade french toast with bacon and sausage for breakfast, thick peanut butter sandwich and tall glass of milk for lunch. Some cheetos with my kids. Then for dinner we went to Red Robbin and I ordered whatever I wanted without looking at the calorie load. I ate the burger and the fries it came with (no extra fries), then shared ice cream with my daughter later. I was stuffed. It was a 4,000 calorie day. This was last Saturday and scale started moving down on Monday and every single day after that. I was amazed!
