Usually just put it in my morning shake. Otherwise OJ or water and just ignore the grittiness

Lately I've been mixing in my assistance sets of bench press with DB curls. Flys or reverse flys might be good too. I would do this only during the warmup or assistance sets. Don't compromise your main workout.

This "diet" fails your litmus test. It should have taken all of 2 seconds to realize that, and move on to the next candidate in your list.

Whatever you're able to do sustainably. But regardless of your training regimen, you will lose no weight unless you're in a calorie deficit.

Less "working out". More training for hypertrophy. As for the food, yeah I guess you need to suck it up. Take a couple scoops of protein with every meal if you have to.
