  • Sprinting intervals seem to be working for me. I'm naturally a slow runner, but I will do a 30 second full sprint then minute walk and alternate for 20 minutes.
  • That is great! Congratulations on a major NSV! I hope you can have many more like it!
  • I was planning on a different workout today, but switched to running purely for the fact that it is national running day. Will be getting my run in during my lunch hour.
  • ^^^^Agree! I am actually using the information to figure out where my calorie deficit needs to be on a daily basis. I have figured out from daily weigh ins that a huge deficit doesn't work for me. I want something more along the lines of 20% from my total burn for the day. You HAVE to have the right mindset though. It was…
  • It might help if you wrote down your weight somewhere every time you step on the scale. For me it helps to keep things in perspective, then I really can look at where I've been and where I'm going.
  • Mine goes up and down, up and down. I always think about my weight as being in phases. The weight slowly goes down, but definitely down then up a little bit at a time. If I notice too much of an increase I take it as a sign of water retention and modify my workout for the day and how I eat accordingly. Just to give you an…
  • I've got an almost invisible one now across my inner wrist area that was from an iron burn. The funny part of it was when I went into the hospital when the scar was still fairly new. The doctors started asking if I was depressed and had attempted suicide. Now I'm noticing that the scars I have the most memories from are…
  • Almonds String Cheese Trader Joe's Dark Chocolate Nibs (not really a snack, but to curb chocolate cravings) Baby Carrots Cherries Oranges
  • Awww hun that's a bummer. Do what you can and just know that you can always get back to where you were, but the time spent helping your husband is the priority right now. Just don't forget to do the essentials of taking care of yourself.
  • My only advice is to keep at it and maybe give yourself a break. As hard as it is, don't exercise for a day and eat a little more. I also want to see other people's tips though because I feel like I struggle with this too. I have found that just focusing on the fact that my lifestyle IS healthy is reward enough for me.…
  • I love this. It is really an emphasis on stepping outside of your insecurities to see that others actually have admiration and respect for your efforts. I'm always cheering the heavier people on in my head that I see outside going for a walk or attempting running. Something along the lines of "You go girl!"
  • I'm not the only one!!! I think the dip stays there no matter what unfortunately. But it does get less pronounced. Gotta read the rest of the thread for everyone else's views. ETA: Just read through the whole thread. Interesting about the tight jeans theory, because that is what I think caused mine.
  • I agree, Don't give up! No matter what you are doing good things for your body. And remember, losing weight slowly usually means you will be able to keep it off and it is more of a lifestyle change. That is what I have to keep telling myself. I have been at this since January and feel like the loss is slow, but every pound…
  • Thanks for giving me a laugh. Running off to find my hammer. To the OP: Thank you for posting this. There is some good advice in this thread.
  • Focus on the health aspect. I agree with the previous poster, take charge of the kitchen and don't let in unhealthy food. Take the time to go on walks with your daughter, bike rides, play tennis, basically any type of a hobby that gets the two of you moving together. At 13 she is definitely aware of being bigger than the…
  • I don't get the "I'm not gonna log it" mentality either. I really had to break myself of it though, because I didn't want to think about everything I had eaten that day. Especially when going to the Sushi bar. But now I always log, and figure even if I forget something on a high calorie day, at least I am logging and have…
  • Congratulations! Getting under 200 is the best feeling in the world! Enjoy your bike!
  • I totally understand cooking too much food. I've never been good about portions when cooking, always way too much. What I have gotten in the habit of doing is freezing the left overs. That way I can always have them later for lunches. I also tell hubby if I expect there to be left overs at the end of the meal. He was…
  • Those sound like great goals! Do you have a daily carb goal? On portion sizes I know there are some helpful tips, like a serving of meat is the size of a deck of cards, a cup of rice is the size of a tennis ball. An ounce of cheese is the size of the tip of your thumb. Hope this help!
  • Great job!!
  • I gave myself a challenge to not eat anything from the candy dishes or the extra goodies for a month and now I'm not nearly as tempted. It also really helps when I have tracked my planned food for the day and see how many calories I will be consuming. It sure helped when my coworker offered me bagels today, or when the…
  • Oh honey, I've only lost maybe a pound in that time. 18 pounds is amazing! You are doing amazing things for your body. Just remember, slow and steady wins the race, or in this case keeps the weight off.
  • It seems like you have already done a lot of research. My suggestion would be getting some free weights and working out at home. There are amazing online resources for at home workouts and if you weren't actually using the weight machines or bar bells then you were really there for the space. I used to be a gym rat, then I…
  • The best advice I can give you is: -Join Challenges -Add lots of supportive friends on this site -Just keep at it. Think about the results of giving up and the results of continuing to make healthy choices. The healthy choices results usually win out for me. If you want to add me as a friend go ahead. I can always use more…
  • Welcome to the site! I hope you are able to get the support you need here. I'm sure there is a group with similar goals if you search under groups. I have found the best way to respond individually is to hit the Quote button instead of the Reply button.

  • Buying new clothes, getting pregnant, celebrating the fact that my lifestyle is healthy now. Since I'm a knitter I may buy some yarn or splurge on a knitting bag.
  • For me it was worth the price, but I bought it using our credit card reward points. I guess it depends on what you are looking for. I wanted a way to see a closer to true total daily calorie burn. That is the reason I got it, but since getting it the other positives are listed below. - The daily goals for steps and miles…
  • Love this post. I was just thinking this morning how MFP has become my new Facebook. I check MFP on my phone for my friend's updates more often than I check Facebook. It also means I want to add more friends. I can't even remember how I found out about this site, but I am so glad that I listened when someone told me to…
  • Hi everyone! I'm 27 years old, 5'4" and currently 190.7 pounds. My starting weight was 210 pounds and I want to get down to 145 pounds. I set my goals at every 5 pounds though, so right now I am focused on getting below 190, then 185 then 180 and so on. I have been married a little over a year and we want to start trying…
