Cash is always welcome! Another idea I did this year for my parents (who also have everything) is to buy a brick (fundraiser thing) at a sea turtle shelter that they frequent when they are down south. They loved it, and can't wait to "visit" their brick when they go down there in a month or so. So, if there is any cause,…

I'm sort of in the same boat. Why don't you eat a little bit later? Eat a piece of fruit or something around 4, eat dinner around 6:00-6:30, and avoid that hunger later at night, which sounds like legitimate hunger to me (it often is in my case, cuz I eat early often to accommodate my kids' schedules).

Sorry- my computer froze, and posted twice.

This craving hits me if I stay up late (my kids and I eat kind of early, so it's sort of "time" for a snack). What I've been doing is going to bed. If I can't go to bed for some reason, I drink sleepytime vanilla tea. That generally does it for me. But going to bed is always my best bet.

My absolute favorite is Chobani vanilla. I stir in a handful of blueberries, cut strawberries, raspberries, cut pears, or whatever is in season (or cheap at the grocery store). Yum!

That sounds delicious- thanks for posting. Did you input it-- what are the calories for it?

My favorite way is to slice it in half. Spread sundried tomato pesto inside, and then re-close it. Drizzle a little balsamic vinegar on the top, and put fresh rosemary on the top. Cook at 325 till at least 160 degrees inside. Makes me hungry just thinking of it! That's not really slow-cooked-- were you referring to a crock…

I go over, also. Like yesterday-- my diet was filled with things like Greek yogurt, veggie omelette, and hummus (in addition to a ton of veggies and fruit, etc.). I would rather err on the side of going a bit over on protein than my old habits-- going over on carbs (and not good carbs, let me add).

Yeah, that was one of the unexpected perks of joining this site-- the amazing male abs that appear all over the place. Whew! Thanks, fellas!

That's too bad. One thing that jumped out at me, though, was the heart thing. A woman I knew had a heart attack after she dropped some weight quickly on Weight Watchers (she survived). Ironically, she had been trying to lose weight/get healthy in order to NOT have a heart attack. Sounds like your sister would be…

I rarely skip breakfast, partly because I have read the same things that you have. But I have to admit that, when I do skip breakfast, I am usually not hungry till lunchtime. When I do eat breakfast, I am often hungry for a snack by 10 am. So I do wonder if I am really doing myself a big favor by not skipping breakfast.

I agree with you. I believe that, once you allow yourself to step your toe across that line, it is much easier to do it again. The reality is that, as I've heard Dr. Phil said, "The best predictor of future behavior is past behavior." I believe that. I would be very hesitant to date a man who has a past of infidelity. It's…

The above ideas. I also eat hummus on veggies. My other go-to is the Greek yogurt someone else mentioned. Not a bad problem to have!

I love Heathrow and Dublin. Jacksonville Fla is pretty pleasant and well-run. Love BWI (Baltimore/DC). Usually have good experience in Atlanta. HATE O'Hare. Will re-route trip to avoid it. . And I rarely have good experiences at any of the NYC/Newark area airports.

That's about what I pay at my local YWCA, so it doesn't sound too bad. There are some gyms, though, like Planet Fitness (I think that's its name) that charge $10 a month. I have a bunch of friends, as well as my dad, who go to places like that. Hard to beat that price.

This is a trick contest, right? Brussels sprouts? ((shudder))

I will eat a bit more than usual. But we don't go crazy in our family. Turkey, stuffing, taters and corn, real gravy. Not great. But no thousand relatives bringing things you "have to try!". And I will have a light bkfst that day, as usual, and no other meals. I couldn't care less about dessert, but my mom is bringing…

Hmm. The scale isn't always the best way to gauge success (my scale is staying the same, but I'm down a pants size-- go figure!). It may be a hormonal thing-- women sometimes weigh more at certain times. But someone sent me this article a while ago, and it clarified a bit for me.…

I know that Weight Watchers has been touted as truly effective. I think because it uses "real" life food, instead of prepackaged meals, or starvation plans. It is meant to teach people to eat within a certain parameter, and make it a habit, or lifestyle, rather than view it as a true "diet". My ex husband used to go on…

I find that when I eat really healthy lunches, I don't feel as fatigued. When I eat something like fast food, I definitely crash. But now that I'm focusing on my health, and eating really well, I don't really experience that anymore. Could that be a factor with you?
-
Wow. That's a really interesting line of thought. I need to mull over some of what you said. I had never considered that my fatigue (I have an emotionally draining job many days, and make tons of weighty decisions all day long) may play a role in why I feel the need to graze mindlessly in the evening. Like you, when I'm…

That's so funny! I'm with ya, though.

Good for you! I have a pair of my "skinny" jeans hanging from my closet door to remind me every day to stay focused. :-)

I'm eating green pepper strips with hummus as I type. I have a friend who HATES hummus. I think the reason it has a bad reputation (according to her) is texture. The taste is really good. And they have flavors like garlic and peppers, stuff like that.
-
That's really inspiring! And a real success story that healthy eating and living can and should be a lifestyle change, and not a temporary "diet". Good for you!

I used to be tall and slender. Then I had a non-weight related serious illness that knocked me flat. Months of recovery (doctor ordered sitting still on the couch), and I had packed on about 45 lbs. I'd love to say that it's my health that drives me, but a big chunk of it is suddenly being invisible to men. That, and the…

MFP Angry Birds Kindle MP3 Barcode Scanner Facebook ClearSky and Google Sky (my kids love astronomy) My bank's app Yelp TripAdvisor OK, I will admit to a tarot app, but just for fun. I bust it out during long meetings. Often asking things like, "Will I ever be free from this conference room?"

I think the problem is that the fast food corporations ARE seeing families who eat this stuff ALL THE TIME. I remember as a kid working the drive-thru at an Arbys that we had "regular" customers. I agree that as a fun thing for the kids sometimes, it's not the end of the world. But we have obese, unhealthy families around…

Besides trying to position themselves as "cheaper", they are very successful at convincing people to buy into the ease of fast food. Yes, it takes a lot more time for me to cook a "real" meal for my family, but the tradeoff for me to save that time by buying frankenfood is unthinkable. They more I learn about the…

The omelette I described has 219 calories.
