Thank you for stating the obvious. I get frustrated with people who are doing crazy diets and such. Sure, its taken me 8 months to lose 35lbs and my co-worker who is doing slim-genics lost the same amount in 3 months but I KNOW that I'm going to keep it off - him? Not so sure. You learn as you go and that is the important…

We had a fitness challenge at work and when I weighted in the person who kept the records was shocked that I weighed so much more then another woman doing it as well. For one thing I told her I'm 4 inches taller then her and I really think that people just can't estimate how much someone else weights. I'm a terrible judge…

Not surprised. Companies will go to any length to enhance their bottom line. If they can manufacture fruits and vegis that take less care, not susceptible to pests (right now) and take less spraying they will want it. I work for an organic company and know first hand what my company goes through to adhere to standards and…

I started out at 211 and I started by walking barely 3 mph. I steadily progressed to a jog at 3.2 mph about a month later. I am now 175 and can run a 5K. Yes you will be out of breath but you won't die!!! Your body will get used to it and before you know it you'll be a runner. Good luck and hang in there. Don't let anyone…

LOVE PB - its a great filler for me. When I'm hungry in the afternoon and nothing sounds good I can usually satisfy myself with just a spoonful of the stuff. But everyday? Variety is the spice of life - may wish to mix it up a bit but I dont think it is "bad" as long as you say its falls within your dietary guidelines.

Seems to be around 10lbs for me. I've lost 34 lbs and am down 3 sizes and what I am currently wearing is getting a bit sloppy so I imagine in another 5-7 lbs I'll be in the next size down.

This might not want to be anything anyone wants to hear but for me its really mind over matter. I made the conscious decision to just not eat junk and fast food. I love to read and have been really inspired by Michael Pollan. If you like to read, instead of the next diet book pick up his "In Defense of Food" and "Food…

I agree to - especially when you don't have the extra $$ to buy more. I have limited my summer buying pretty well but its going to get colder so I'll need to get a new coat and warm tops. But have to admit- I love going into the misses section instead of the woman's section

I have found I was only hungry when I was doing some program - WW, Diet Center, Jenny Craig. Now that I am doing "my own thing" I am not hungry. I eat healthy, often, and stay within my calories 90% of the time. The only time I get hungry is if I push off lunch or dinner due to being busy and not eating at my usual times.

We all have to fly at one time or another and knowing when its your time means you've come a long way.:drinker: Cheers!!

tough situation and unfortunately he has to want it bad enough to change. No matter how much we want something good for our spouse you can't force or change him. I lost and gained weight several times over without any help or change from my husband and it wasn't until he wanted it for himself did he start to change.…

First congrat's on what you've lost already and secondly sorry about your injury- that really sucks. A lot of gyms still have a few lanes open for lap swim during classes - are you sure you can't do that? Besides swimming I really can't think of anything else you can do since it has to be non-weight bearing. The only other…

old comfort food from my childhood: hamburger and rice. I use 93/7 hamburger (about one pound) , a cup of white rice, 1 can of tomatoes (your choice) - I usually use one that has green pepper and celery in it. 1/2 an onion chopped, 1/2 bell pepper cut in strips, 1-2 cloves of garlic. Saute onions, garlic in some olive oil,…

I just read this too - scary :noway: I spend more time in the gym in the winter (yea - lots of germs then!!) so I don't think I'll skimp on the cleaning fluid any more

One thing that really kick started me into choosing healthier foods is reading. Micheal Pollan - Omnivore's Dilemma, Food Rules, and In Defense of food. I really began to understand just what the food industry is doing to us. If you aren't much of a reader I'd highly recommend In Defense of Food if I had to just chose one…

I've had 2 knee surgeries both due to torn meniscus. I tore one doing Tae Bo. But I actually did the tear moving my coffee table back in place but I blame the Tae Bo regardless - sounds better. The other I did snow showing. Fell on it and didn't feel a thing until the next day it was so swollen and painful I knew exactly…

Had something similar last night but added: garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, chili powder, and another Schilling's seasoning I don't recall the name. If you sprinkle a little bit of sugar on them they brown and crisp real nice.

How long have you been exercising? I found when I stared I felt that way but not any more. Well, until I started a hour of swimming 2x a week. The first 2 weeks I came home and had a second dinner! Well, we ate lightly before hand (the class is at 6:45pm) and then ate more when we got home - my husband it doing it too. But…

I've got bad knees and I just go as low as I can go - no way in the world I'll ever again get my quad parallel to the floor I just do the best I can - and The Shred kicks butt - love it!!

Brown rice does take forever to cook. I'm a rice purist and don't go for the boil in bag, frozen, cups, or microwave stuff now available. Start it at least an hour before you plan to eat, plenty of water, cook it slow, a little oil and salt. My husband uses the knuckle test for water, I have to measure, and don't be afraid…

If you're that tired you might want to skip the weights- easier to get hurt when you're not up to it mentally or physically. Nothing wrong with giving yourself a break - go for that walk.

I did my first one a few weeks ago with a personal best :smokin: and my only advice is: RUN YOUR RACE and don't compare yourself to any other racer out there. And most importantly HAVE FUN!!

I just started swimming for exercise this month. I'm taking what our rec center calls "adult technique class". For those of us who know how to swim but don't do it that well and want to improve. I was scared sh**less but found the atmosphere encouraging and found that I don't really swim any worse then anyone else there…

I'd love a breakfast burrito and a latte right now!! Good thing I don't work any where near food establishments:drinker: You'll find that losing some weight and exercise will make you feel better. I had knee surgery (my second one!!) 3 years ago and I didn't recover well. It was swollen, ached, and I had trouble going up…

Have to agree with most of the others. 5lbs a month is great - that is what I average. You are getting close to move into the next decade on your scale and I don' t know about anyone else but when I get there it always seems to take longer to make that jump; my body just seems to get stubborn. This is me: 7/2 179.2 7/9…

two thumbs down occasionally but not every day

I ran my first 5K last weekend. I live next to a lake that is about the same length give or take a tenth of a mile or so. I can't run it yet nonstop either but I found whether it was the excitement or fear (haha) but I did a personal best in time. I felt old, slow and fat but there were plenty of other old, slow, fat…

Yes, fiber can do that to you. I know I feel like that when I eat greasy food (like now - should NOT have gone out to lunch with the work gang!) but you're body should get used to it fairly soon and I guess you can take Gas-X to see if that helps relieve the pressure. Don't give up on the good stuff!!

I have a friend who just went through all that here in Colorado. She definitely made time each day to go for a jog or bike ride. Oh, and she passed. Its a good way to recharge your brain when you can't stuff anymore information in there. Good luck and congrats!!

Your BMR gives you a guide a to how many calories you'd burn by doing nothing. If you are taking in more calories then your body needs you'll gain weight. That's why most of us are here . So if you use this site to log your food intake and keep it under 1600 calories you'll probably lose some weight.
