  • Recent studies published by the NY Times does support this but it all depends on what you are doing. I think if you have a long, intense workout planned that you are probably better off having a small serving of protein prior to your work out but you need to see what works for you.
  • Avocados! I would only eat them in guacamole but now will eat them just sliced into a salad. My mom would be so happy!
  • resistance bands: use instead of hand weights. Some exercise DVD's use them foam roller: used to roll away the pain from tight muscles. Especially good for the IT band (outside of legs). I use it for my sciatica. But while they do help it hurts like hell while you are doing it. LOL. I call mine my pillar of pain. I guess…
  • My dad passed last year and I put on 20lbs since then. It took a lot of work in my head to get myself to care about me again and all the hard work I put into making myself healthier before he passed. I finally just said that enough is enough. If I don't make a stand now I will gain back all the weight I lost and swore to…
  • On that journey as well - I'll add you.
  • Welcome back - I just came back too after a year+ off of this site. Dealing with personal issues the past year and 20 lbs found its way back to my hips, thighs etc. I'm slowly getting back in the swing of things. Add me as a friend if you like. Jessica
  • 28 minutes! Wow. I wish I were doing it that fast. I've been running a bit over a year and have gotten my 5K time down from 42 minutes to 37 minutes. I have hopes of doing 33 minutes by next summer. I don't know about this normalization thing but if I were you I'd be thrilled!!! Keep it up.
  • If your race is Sunday its probably too late to test drive anything new during your workouts because you shouldn't be doing much at the moment!. I've done 2 sprint tri's and have been going on long weekend rides all summer and I really like Shot Rok's. Taste good and to be truthful, I don't know if they really help but I…
  • Don't sweat it! Everything in moderation. Its not carb's that are bad - just the amount and the source.
  • Sounds great - incline 5 is intense! And remember, you won't always be here. Once you start losing and feeling more fit you'll start to go faster and want to do other things as well. This is just your first step and it sounds like a good one.
  • a bag of pretzels TLC chewy granola bars (2) Fiber One bars (2) oats and chocolate a box of dark chocolate with green tea extract from a supplier - very small squares a box of cup of soup mixes bag of granola to mix with yogurt
  • When I lived in San Francisco I used to ride my bike by Robin Williams' house. Would occasionally see him out in his yard.
  • LOL!! So true but you know some times you just gotta!!

  • I'm and right there with you! I haven't lost anything significantly since last June! I know why too. I was eating enough to just offset my exercise and hence -what went in I sweated off and had no deficit! BUT I DID NOT GAIN A SINGLE POUND IN 6 MONTHS!! For me that is more of an accomplishment then losing the 38 lbs I lost…

  • know your burn - get one! Polar of course
  • I motivate myself. I've learned over the years that if I don't want it then what anyone else says or thinks really matters very little to me as far as weight and health go. I am losing weight for myself. I am becoming a fit person for myself. Everyone else in my life, my husband, my kids, my friends get a new and improved…
  • I was a size 10 once - a long long time ago  and I thought of myself as skinny so I guess its all what you bring to the table. Maybe they are just being supportive and nice. But ask yourself - do you want to lose 10lbs to be healthier or just to say you wear a size 6?
  • It does. I've been drinking maybe 40oz at work for years and I do not constantly have to run to the bathroom any longer. I agree with Irodriguez - pace yourself and drink more later in the afternoon as the winding down and just before you head to lunch.
  • Moleskin - definitely. And get some good socks- Smartwools are all I wear - they got through a 3-Day 60 miles Avon Breast Cancer walk with only one blister.
  • If you just started weight training - you said machines so not sure which you are referring to - it can take some time. Muscle does add weight and more then likely your body is just waiting to see if this is something your going to continue. If you do then its going to kick in gear and go "ok she's not kidding, time to…
  • Good for you! My goal is a sprint triathlon this June and hopefully a few 5K's, cycling events, and maybe another tri by summer's end!
  • Everyone will tell you to look at the couch to 5K program on coolrunning.com (I think that is the website). Personally, I've been running outside since last May, and running outside is much HARDER then running on a treadmill and honestly, just start. I'd say start on a treadmill just because it is easier but set small…
  • try a running skirt! I don't have one but have friends who wear them and love them. They are skorts really but allow you freedom of movement and if the short part rides up I guess no one would notice. But I doubt you'd find one for less the $30.
  • Don't know about your commute or if you have kids to wrestle in the morning but getting up 45 minutes earlier then you do now would allow you to do a workout DVD before getting ready in the morning.
  • Tricep kick backs lateral arm raises and side arm raises to work your deltoids fly's (lay on the floor arms out stretched but slightly bent) there are several different forms of curls you can do shoulder presses
  • I have a treadmill at home so I try to find some random movie on HBO that I'll mute and listen to music on my Ipod otherwise I have to turn up the TV too loud to actually hear it. Lately I've been running outside without my Ipod and finding that I like not having to struggle with my ear buds or having that damn wire…
  • A recent article in the NY Times had a study that showed before breakfast to burn more calories but the best time is when you do it. Don't lock yourself into a set time - plus mixing up the time of day you exercise confuses your body and doesn't allow it to get used to doing something during a specific time of day. So just…
  • LOL! I had a post about 3 months ago I called 5K Tuesday's and encouraged people to get up and move it during the BL show. Good for you and your friends! Spread the word and keep it up!!
