Aw, I like that....you just described my husband. :)

@epmorris22...probably someone very successful in finance.

I think it depends on how far you want to run. One to 2 miles is very different from long distances....I know I could not have run a half marathon without carbs. The key is COMPLEX carbs.

You are going to have to force yourself. Try going in the morning, that always works better for me. Enlist the help of a friend/relative to call you on the phone repeatedly until you get out of bed. :) Try to find a work out buddy, someone that will be waiting for you at the gym, etc, so you feel a sense of obligation. Try…

I think your plan of getting in shape is the best one. :) Break ups are hell, no doubt, but when I think back to my major ones, I always learned A LOT about myself in the process. Which in retrospect is helpful, but I know it is small consolation when you are going through it. So use your feeling of sadness, anger,…

No, you don't need to exercise to lose weight. But exercise is important for cardiovascular health, bone density (especially for women) and it will help increase energy levels, as well as overall emotional well being.

I'll send you a friend request. :)

You look fabulous! Great work.

Of course the thought of quitting is going to panic you. If you were like me, cigarettes are your friend....you turn to them when you are angry, when you are bored, when you are stressed, when you are sad, etc. etc. It is scary to imagine living without them. But what is scarier is the thought of NOT living because of…

To all of you arguing about the different medications available: no one is going to know how they are going to react to a med until they try it. The doctor prescribed synthroid. Try synthroid first. If you have difficulty with it, then look in to other options. I had my thyroid surgically removed and then underwent…

You are amazing. Congrats on all you have accomplished. I know I am probably old enough to be your mother, but I will say it: you look hot! Great work.

I really don't have an answer for you on why that is happening, but my advice is to not weigh yourself daily. Only weigh yourself once a week, and see what that number is. It's going to take more time to really see what your "true" losses are.

I completely understand wanting to maintain a healthy weight during pregnancy, but this is also a time where you really have to listen to your body. If you are feeling hungry, eat. Just do what you have been doing: make sure you are eating healthy foods. During pregnancy you just want to follow the normal "guidelines" for…

There is no evidence that vitamin D is more readily absorbed in liquid form. That being said, however, there is no harm in taking it in liquid form. But there is no medically proven advantage to taking it in liquid form....the makers of the liquid product, however, probably want you to believe there is. :)
-
I'm confused...why is an RN telling you what medications to take? Do you mean she is a Nurse Practitioner? I work in the medical field and our MDs don't recommend Vitamin D in liquid form. Vitamin D3 molecules are virtually always in their solid form, or phase, when ingested into the human body, regardless of whether their…

You don't eat very many calories, and the calories you are eating could be spent on better quality food...more lean meats, fruits, veggies. Complex carbs only, no simple carbs. Try upping your protein intake, it is pretty low. Eggs, lean meats, greek yogurt, nuts, etc are all good sources of protein.

Yes, I believe it would overdraw. The "available balance" is your TRUE balance. So you need to look at that amount as what is in your account.
-
I shoot for a ratio of 40% carbs, 30% protein, and 30% fats. Carbs are fuel. I could not run long distances or exercise well without them. The key is good complex carbs, not crappy simple carbs.
-
Sure am....Appleton. :)

Yes, they matter. I don't think that eating a certain number of calories of crap is the same as eating a balanced diet. I want to know how much protein/fat/carbs I am eating in a day, especially because I am working on building muscle.
-
It would be very difficult for a woman to put on six pounds of muscle that quickly....it would either be water retention or you are eating too much. Typically with strength gains you are weighing the same or a bit more, but you are losing inches, your clothes feel looser.
-
I always log my strength training under "cardio." No, it's not really cardio-focused, but you will find options to log different strength exercises there....

I really hate that women can be so mean to each other....makes me sad. I just looked at your pictures and you are gorgeous, plus you are kick a** for losing so much weight. I know comments like that can sting, even though intellectually you know they are just stupid beyotches...but try to get it out of your head. We're all…

Fitness and exercise have everything to do with mental health. I work full time, I have two children, and I exercise. Why? I find the time because it is important for me, for my mental health, and for my family. They need me to take care of myself, just as I need to make my health a priority. Sorry, I don't buy the "no…

5'9", 146 lbs, my left is 20" and my right is 19". I am a runner who is starting New Rules of Lifting, so we'll see what happens to the thighs after that program. I carry my excess weight in my hips and my rear end.

How fast are you attempting to run? Many beginner runners feel like they need to be at a fast pace. If you need to go really slow, that is FINE. Running is hard, do not be discouraged. It just requires a lot of patience and determination. If you are struggling with the first weeks of Couch to 5k, then repeat a week until…

I completely understand where you are coming from, because I don't like to take medications either. I think the issue with hypothyroidism is if a person is symptomatic or not. And then coupled with that is what your TSH level was (ie, how far outside of normal range). Do you know what your level was? I do not know of any…

Plott hound!!!! Best dog I ever had. Very difficult to train, but worth all the trouble. :)

I have thick calves and I have come to accept that there is not much I can do about it. I found that running has made them a bit smaller (as strange as that sounds) but I honestly think it is just the way my body is, no matter what my weight. I am at a healthy weight and my calves are still thick!

HIIT = high intensity interval training. Basically exercise where you ramp up the intensity for a period of time, go back to baseline, up the intensity again, etc. etc.
