I used to bike to work about 10 miles too, in Texas, so I understand the sweat issue. I kept a blowdryer, dry shampoo, body wipes, deodorant and makeup in my office, and I always made sure I brought an entire outfit for work, including underwear. There's nothing worse than putting on clean clothes over sweaty underwear!…

I have been eating Arctic Freeze "ice cream" - it's 35 calories a serving, and it's the perfect something cold and sweet after a meal. I also second the suggestion to do Lindt chocolate and have 1-2 pieces.

I love to make cauliflower mashed potatoes... Not Indian food, but delicious. foodnetwork.com/recipes/mock-garlic-mashed-potatoes-recipe.html

I'm a single 30-something. I'm from Texas, I just finished my PhD and am moving up north in August for a job. Feel free to add me!

I wonder if swimming would be a good exercise for you, at least relatively, while you're recovering... maybe your body wouldn't get as warm?

I have lived/visited all across Latin America, and my advice would be the following: 1. Don't eat rice. They'll give you a four serving size on your plate, and it is hard to know how much you've eaten. I've learned to just avoid it. 2. Order grilled, not fried, if there is an option. 3. Walk everywhere. 4. Take along some…

Congrats Sheila! You are an inspiration to me and I am sure many more!

Maybe I will try the TDEE-20%. I'd love to hear how it goes for you in the next few weeks.
-
I think what she meant is that muscle is denser than fat, thus more muscle fills ups the same space as fat.
-
Thanks for the reply Sheila! I have been measuring myself, and haven't seen a difference since I've been adding strength training in my workouts. I'm wondering if I should get my body fat percentage done somewhere? Or get someone professional to do my measurements?
-
It's not as drastic of a difference as some, but it makes me happy. The before is on the right, during in the middle, and after on the left. I've gone from 148 to 130ish lbs.

Also, try them in a spinach salad.
-
You can freeze them in small portions, and then add them to smoothies or oatmeal later on.

I post pictures of my food all the time! Whether a restaurant has a beautiful presentation, or I am really proud of a dish I made... cooking is an art, and I love food, so why not?

People have different definitions of what "problem" drinking is. The reality of it is that "problem" drinking, in whatever stage, can lead to alcoholism, which is a nasty, nasty disease, and is usually dual diagnosed with depression or other mental illnesses. The fact that you are concerned about his drinking, no matter…

Are you weighing your food on a food scale? I found when I starting weighing my food that my measurements had been pretty off in some cases, especially with meat and cereals.

Try this: http://scholar.google.com/scholar?hl=en&q=y%27all+english&btnG=Search&as_sdt=0%2C44&as_ylo=&as_vis=0 Your school should have access to at least some of those journals. Good luck with your paper! Also, there is a fascinating book called "Do You Speak American?" that I would recommend if you're interested in…

I've done them all: POF, Match, eHarmony, etc. and honestly, each time I've signed up (multiple times for each one, hoping this time will be different) I go on a few awkward or strange first dates, rarely a second, and then get frustrated with the low-quality dating pool. I've had much better luck meeting people through…

I am 5'4'' and my start weight was 148. I am now at my goal weight, 130 (ish). I do cardio and weights, and I always eat 1200 plus my exercise calories. Now that I'm at my goal weight I've been trying to up my calories to 1360, then hopefully even higher. It took me a year and a half to lose the 18 pounds, so it will go…

Maybe it feels cheap because you're using the words (and mentality of) "sack the chick." No?

Cowboy boots with a suit. Knowing more about fixing things than I do.

Yes, definitely get a bike fitted specifically for you. When I went to buy my first "real" bike, I tried out a Trek, and they told me it didn't fit me. I ended up with a Specialized, and I LOVE it. It's like heaven. Find someone who is knowledgeable who can help, and most importantly enjoy your new bike!

I use an air popper - it's the cheapest and lowest calorie option there is.

Well, I'm a single doctoral student. If my neighbors got me "pity" flowers or "sorry you're so stressed" flowers, I would be offended. I chose this route for my life. If my neighbors got me "just because" flowers I would be delighted. And if I got anonymous flowers, it would frustrate me because I would wonder who in the…

Well, I just turned 30, so I don't really fit your criteria, but I'm at my goal weight and now looking to tone up. I would love to have some friends in the same situation too!

They give some people heartburn. That's about it. I love eating all kinds of peppers and eat them as often as I can, especially when they're on sale!
-
I just made some steamed spinach and added shelled edamame (from the frozen foods section), and it's delicious and filling. Just needs a little salt and pepper and you're good to go! (Plus it's pretty on your plate!)

So great! You look like a new person! Keep up the great work!

I second the Kashi Go Lean crunch. Also, if you have a store like Sprouts or Whole Foods near you, check out the bulk bins. I get my granola there, and they have the nutrition info posted there and on the website. There are some that are 240 cal per 1/2 cup, and then others that are 140 cal per 1/2 cup, which are the ones…

Be cautious when you first introduce them. Most dogs will learn to respect the kitties and even become friends (although you may have an upset kitty in the meantime who pees on your bed a couple of times), but some, like my mom's dog, have a really strong instinct to kill cats. We found that out the hard way when my mom…
