  • I started my journey in Dec 2011 because my partner and I were thinking of starting a family in the next year or two and I wanted to be in the best shape before falling pregnant. My BMI had crept into the overweight range (82.6kg/182lbs at 175cm/5'9" = BMI 27). Over the past nine months I've lost ~27 pounds (my original…
  • I currently weight 72.1kg/159lbs and am 5'9". I'm Australian but recently traveled in the US so I've got the sizing down pat between both ;) Currently I'm a Size 10 in Oz (Size 6 US) top and bottom. I have a large frame so not sure whether more weight loss will = loss of sizes. For example, 23 pounds ago I was an…

  • I really sorry you feel sad your GP told you to lose weight. I hope one day when you've lost weight you can look back on that moment and see it as a turning point to living a healthier, happier life. I often debate about confronting a patient about their weight problem - I don't want to make them feel as if I'm dismissing…
  • Hi! We have near identical stats and goals. I'm 5'9", started out at 182 pounds and am now at 159 pounds. I think I'd like to lose 5 more but I'm happy for it to take ages because I'm attempting to build/maintain my muscle mass. Friend me if you need someone to keep you going!
  • I find mine highly accurate. I wear it in the middle of my bra or on my hip. I LOVE my Fitbit!! I lost mine last week and was devastated. I lasted 48 hours before I bought a new one :) I figure even if you only used it for 3 months, it works out at $1 a day which is less than a cup of coffee... and it just keeps getting…

  • Congrats! Hope you achieve everything you hope to. Are you quite small framed? I only ask as I'm 5'9" and started this journey at 182lb, now I'm 159lb and 26% BF and I'm only looking to tone up, and lose a few more pounds. If I can offer you any advice, it would be to start weight training early so that you can tone up and…
  • Have a look at your diet. If you are on a low calorie diet you may not be getting enough macro or micronutrients. Ultimately hair is made from protein so you want a diet rich in protein on top of making sure you are getting plenty micronutrients.
  • To be fair, not all antibiotics interact with the pill. It depends how the body metabolizes the antibiotic and whether this causes up-regulation in the liver of the enzymes that break down the hormones in the pill. As for increasing your protein intake, it shouldn't cause problems with the pill that I can for see. I always…
  • Try New Rules of Lifting for Women. It advocates full body exercises, 3 times a week. I've noticed huge changes in my body and my sessions with 5 mins of cardio either side of the weights usually last about 30 minutes total.
  • Actually if you do have haemorrhoids, they probably developed during pregnancy and running is just exacerbating the problem. Get a check up with your GP and check that it's actually haemorrhoids that are causing your pain not something else.
  • According to my favourite site your body type is straight. I love their tips about dressing your shape :) http://www.shopyourshape.com/body-shapes/straight-body-shape.html?delvars=[type+Function]&_searchKey=30307
  • I'm 5'9". SW - 182lb CW - 160lb GW - 154lb (although this is flexible as I'm now working on toning!) I wear US size 6-8 pants. I'd love to be a solid 6 but to be fair, I'm already pretty happy with where I am. Before After
  • Thanks for the compliments :) It's nice to hear what other people see. I still haven't reached the point where my stomach seems flat to me and I want my arms to look as good from the back as the front but I'm looking forward to the future changes!
  • So for those who asked, here are my photos from this morning in the same outfit as January. January Today
  • I'm tracking my calories but I am aiming for 30% protein like the book suggests.
  • Yes they are bars with set weights on them. It's a 24 hour a day gym so they limit the free weights so people don't hurt themselves when no one is around. I'm thinking about hiring a PT for a few sessions to assess my technique because like you, I want to be doing the moves properly before I do them with heavier weights.
  • Thanks :) This is my second go at NROLW. First time around I only did two sessions because I went too heavy too quick and was so sore I couldn't continue. I haven't done any one rep max's... I assume the concept being you do one rep of the heaviest weight you can? The gym's free weight barbells only go up to 40kg which was…
  • Ideally it's designed to be done at a gym. That said, there are modifications you could do to allow you to do it at home. You'd want access to both dumbbell free weights and a bar with weights. You'd also want a yoga ball and somewhere to do step ups. You could wear a backpack filled with weights for squats, lunges... Just…
  • Jonnelle06 and ash190489: As I said above, I'm following the New Rules of Lifting for Women. I'm still at Stage 1 but at the moment I'm using the following weights: Squats 50kg (110lb) Lunges 50kg (110lb) Deadlifts 30kg (66lb) Dumbell Shoulder Presses - 5kg each arm (11lb each arm) Seated row - 25kg (55lb) Step up - Body…
  • Hey summer827 - obviously it varied depending on how active I was being. Over that month the most I ate was 2500 and the least I ate was ~1800. I managed to lose my fitbit yesterday so while I wait to find it or for a new one to arrive, I'm eating at 1800 cals plus exercise calories.
  • The -1150 is the additional deficit beyond the -500 daily deficit you were aiming for. (Hence a total deficit of 4650 = [(500x7) + 1150]
  • And tomorrow morning, I'll take photos in my January outfit ;)
  • I'm following the New Rules of Lifting for Women method. http://www.thenewrulesoflifting.com/nrol-for-women At the moment I'm on Stage 1!
  • It depends how you set up your account. Your diary is closed so I can't see what your calorie goal is. If when you set up your account you said you want to lose 2 pounds a week, then the number of calories it tells you to eat is what you should eat to lose 2 pounds (i.e. MFP has already included a calorie deficit). As for…
  • Me too :) I refer at least one patient a day!
  • If you're looking for somewhere to start with weightlifting, get a copy of "New rules of weightlifting for women." I love it!
  • I'm using the New Rules of Weightlifting for Women book and have found it a great starting point for a weight-newbie.
  • I have both the Polar FT4 and a FitBit (both pink!). I wear the Fitbit all the time and it's great for calculating calories for day to day life but it underestimates if I do a hard core cardio workout (i.e. treadmill running with heart-rate between 150-180 for 40 minutes). The Fitbit will suggest half the number of…

  • Be forewarned, you will get a lot of advice, much of it conflicting and the only way you'll figure out what's right for you is to try things and see. At 113 pounds and 5 foot, you aren't overweight so those 10-13lbs you want to lose aren't coming to come off easily. Is there are a reason you've picked the number you have?…
  • I'm an Aussie and I have one. Best money ever spent! It motivates me to move more which is exactly what I need to make this a lifestyle change, not just a quick fix! The only down side is that you can't access the free iphone app because it's not available through the Aussie iTunes store. Otherwise, no negatives!
