Hi All, Happy Thanksgiving in advance! I'm sure you all know the old adage 'Not planning is planning to fail', so I looked up the calories in typical Thanksgiving foods so I could see what was worth the calories and what wasn't. I'm not planning on depriving myself - if I want something tomorrow, I'm going to have it - but…

Welcome!!! Your story sounded so familiar - I'm 28 and 2 months ago I got out of a job that I hated that I stayed in for 6 years. I had packed on so much weight due to stress and comfort eating, but it just served as one more reason for me to feel miserable and take away my confidence to make positive changes. BUT - I'm…

Thanks! It just feels a little counter-intuitive - I'm eating quite a bit and quite frequently (am trying out the every-three-hours plan), and it just feels strange to be shown I'm not eating enough when I'm eating 1700/1800 calories a day!

Hi all, Just a questions... I know I shouldn't eat less than 1200 calories a day, but does that refer to net calories after exercise, or total calories? For example, yesterday, I ate 1700 calories but I did 75 minutes on the ellyptical machine at the gym (while watching Dancing with the Stars - didn't want to get off the…

Hi! I'm sooo with you on this one. I figure I'm going to snack - if I try and stop it I just go crazy later and eat more - but if I do snack, I'm going to snack as low-cal as I can, so even if I eat alot its not as bad as it could have been. My favorites: 1. Polly-O string cheese with 2% milk. Takes a while to eat cause…

Thank you all! When I set out to make myself healthier I did a whole bunch of reading and I read that emotions have a ton to do with long term weight loss and are often the cause of gaining in the first place and blah blah blah. At the time though, I was more focused on the immediate need of "if I gain any more weight my…

Thank you! It does  It was somehow easier when I was doing the weight-loss thing quietly (it took 4 months before anyone noticed significant weight loss!) and 'just for me', but now the comments have started and I just have to deal. The friends I do talk to look at me like I'm crazy and just tell me to enjoy it.…

Hi All, Just an observation/question. I seem to be hitting my weight-loss stride and this morning I am wearing jeans in a size that I couldn't get past my knees 3 months ago (yay!). BUT with the loss of my love handles I seem to have lost a bit of, well, padding from the outside world if that makes sense. And I get noticed…

Swimming!! Find a nearby YMCA or healthclub with an indoor pool and you can "walk" in waist-high water and put very very minimal pressure on your ankle. You can also do sit-ups, modified push-ups (bend at the knee instead of straight legs), and definitely the weight training. Good luck and feel better soon!

Hi Loretta Jo, I'm so sorry to hear about your knee problems! Feel better soon. I'm also not a doctor, but a family member of mine had a knee replacement and a hip replacement a couple of years ago, and what helped most - once she healed for a bit - was water therapy. It allows you to strengthen yourself without putting…

Thanks! I seem to be stuck around the 3500mg/day mark, but will try substituting in some actual food instead of frozen meals once in while. Time to learn to ::gulp:: cook!

Hi! I joined this site about a month ago and its fantastic! I've actually been pretty good about sticking to the bottom-line number (most of the time :-) ), but had a question - how important is sodium intake? I eat alot of prepared/frozen meals and the reports showed me that they're sky high in sodium, even though they're…
