  • I'm 10 years older than you and have a seven-year-old....totally share your feelings about "what was I thinking???" and the flab. We'll get rid of it! I figure that mamas who stay active on mfp until this late in pregnancy will stick around post partum to work off those pounds. Lets just enjoy these final weeks as much as…
  • W're in very similar circumstances! I'm 41 pushing on 42, fertility treatments for 3 years, nothing, then ... bam! Like you, I have been very nervous. This is our second child (the first is 6), which somehow makes it worse for me because I really want everything to be alright for my older daughter. Now I'm 27 weeks along…
  • How are all the March Mommies doing? I'm fighting constant heartburn, which somehow worsens with exercise, Also, I'm exhausted. My belly has gotten huge over the past week (27 weeks now). I gained a lot of eight and just learned that I failed the glucose screening. Now have to go in for the three hour one. Ugh! Hope…
  • Ouch, that IS painful! Are you feeling better yet? Have you tried swimming?
  • Wow, Anna, I love your attitude! Finally made it through the Summer Sanders workout on Tuesday, and I'm so so sore two days after! But it reminds me with every step I take that I'm doing something for my health and hence for baby. I've also reintroduced protein powder into my diet, after speaking about it with my OB/GYN.…
  • How is everyone doing on the exercise front these days? I'm 23 weeks along and have been super super exhausted lately. I feel like my physical exhaustion is closely related to my lack of exercise over the past two weeks (well we had a hurricane 10 days ago and now we have a snow storm, how's that for an excuse?). Getting…
  • Excellent tip, thanks a ton!
  • I've been able to trick myself by buying a 10 class pack of yoga classes that expires in 5 weeks ;-) Also enlisting a friend has helped (making an appointment to go to the gym or for a power walk). But left to my own devices, my natural tendency would be to watch TV all day LOL. I like your point of switching the focus…
  • I'm so glad for your replies! Like others here, I felt super queasy during the first trimester, but at almost 18 weeks (I'm due March 8) I'm doing great. It was like the energy came back overnight. However, I need to rest a lot and I'm trying to get used to the fact that I'm not the efficient multi-tasker from before.…
  • Our first is a girl; she is sooo excited about the pregnancy, she actually stops people on the street to tell them she's having a baby.
  • Name: Maria Hubby/Partner: Fabian How many kids do you have: One 6 yr old daughter Due Date: March 08, 2013 Do you know the gender: MaterniT21 says it's a boy Have you picked out the baby's name: I have, hubby yet to give his ok... Where do you live: New York, NY Workouts you are doing while pregnant: Summer Sanders &…
  • Tara Parker Pope wrote an interesting column in the New York Times on the topic ("The Fat Trap"): http://www.nytimes.com/2012/01/01/magazine/tara-parker-pope-fat-trap.html?pagewanted=all Apparently, a weight-reduced body behaves very differently from a similar-size body that has never dieted. So, once you've allowed your…
  • I like Summer Sanders' prenatal workout. Pretty athletic, especially good for ladies who used to lift before getting pregnant. Has specific workouts for each trimester.
  • Wikipedia has a pretty comprehensive list of the benefits and risks of coffee: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Health_effects_of_coffee Summary: When consumed in moderation, the benefits outweigh the risks.
  • You probably burned more then, but I wouldn't sweat it. Better to err on the low side is my motto.
  • This is me as a size 12 at 169lbs in the first picture, and 7 months later as a size 6/8 at 152lbs (April 2012). I've since regained 3lbs because I started lifting heavy weights, but the fit of my clothes has actually improved. I'm 5.6, and I've never consumed below 1400 calories, always eaten back my exercise calories.…
  • In addition to the above: Throw away your trigger foods, and don't buy them again. Set your protein intake to 30% minimum, and keep the carbs low. Don't ever go hungry, and don't be afraid of healthy fats. This is some of the stuff that has worked for me...good luck!
  • This is NOT a small NSV, the difference is amazing! You look great. Love that you lift, that's the way;-) Keep it up girl!
  • Daft Punk - Da Funk Nice suggestions!
  • You could do a little research online to see how much you burn if you stand all day. It definitely isn't sedentary anymore, so probably lightly active. I'd take that into account. Let me know how it goes; have been thinking of getting one myself!
  • Wow, impressive! Will you tell us a little more about how you did it? I get the kick *kitten* part ;-)
  • Awesome work, amazing results! I'd be perfectly happy with the before pictures though ;-)
  • I don't have a HRM and use the MFP estimate. I, too, was really surprised in the beginning by how few calories I was apparently burning while workin like a dog. But as other posters have stated, it's a burn that keeps on burning ;-) congratulations on getting started! Looking forward to hearing about your progress.
  • Thanks to Parys I just saw this thread...you're awesome! So glad to have you in my virtual life!
  • What worked for me in the beginning were Jillian Michael's 20 minute workouts (30 Day Shred, Ripped in 30). They're painful, but incredibly efficient. And, as I said, 20 minutes long, so no excuses! Good luck, and don't be too heard on yourself...
  • You are doing great! Your facial features are already much more defined. And you look so happy. Keep up the good work!
  • Hey girl, I feel for you, and I applaud your courage to reach out. I have very similar issues, have had them for many years (decades, actually), and what has worked best is reducing carbs and sugars while upping the protein intake. Starch, sugar, flour etc are like crack! I still need to eat enormous portions to not go…
  • I have a weaker side - I guess most of us do. What I learned in physical therapy after recovering from ACL surgery is that you work on the weaker side until it catches up with the stronger side, then continue with both sides. As someone else mentioned, it's easier to "cheat" with the barbell and with machines, so I use…
  • I'm in the middle of stage 2 and am enjoying it. It's a great introduction to heavy lifting, and even if you decide that it's not for you, you learn a ton about fitness and nutrition. The book debunks the reigning myths on women and weight training, and it does so with quite a bit of humor. My favorite outcome from…
  • I have the black "luxe" gloves from b-grl: http://www.b-grl.com/fitness/. Use them only when I work with a heavy barbell (deadlifts and squats mostly). I'm very happy with them.
