  • I'm running the half! :-) I was looking at the weather forecast and WHY is it that it's only going to rain during the actual race? Not before, not after, just right at 7-12am! Getting my packet today. Hopefully the weather isn't too bad as this will be a PR attempt for me. The course looks rather flat. GOOD LUCK!
  • Simply. AWESOME!!! This was a great race report, and it sounds like you ran a perfectly executed race. The stars were all aligned that day... you had an awesome training cycle, PR'd in a lot of other distances, and was blessed with perfect weather! GOOD JOB on shattering your time goal AND your PR AND a BQ!!!!! :drinker:
  • If you're extremely small and sedentary, I guess I could see why you'd cut so much. But is it really a sustainable lifestyle? You'd be messing with your metabolism if you eat so little... Once your body gets used to so little food, of course it's going to be easy to gain it back so quickly. You don't need to starve…
  • Depends on what you're watching. If sodium is an issue for you, stay away from Thai food or most asian food because of the soy or fish sauce used. Otherwise, I second beef salad. There is very little added fat, you get protein, a bunch of veggies, and awesome flavor. (The fish sauce used can make up almost half a person's…
  • A lot of good things suggested here... foam roller, ice, strengthening exercises, are all good. For me, what really worked was just complete rest. I had to put my ego, pride, stubbornness, and love for running aside for the sake of healing. Mine was so bad that I dropped out of a marathon I had trained so hard for. It…
  • CONGRATS! Awesome that you pushed through, and had great support at the end. You rocked it. :drinker:
  • Also, to answer your question ... once you're cleared again, take it easy. Start off at a conservative pace, a few miles here and there, run/walk. Run every other day and discard the whole 10% rule - if you increase mileage again, be even more conservative than 10%. Example, when I started running again, I only ran 2 - 3…
  • Oh man! ITBS sucks! I have to add that the best thing I ever did to "cure" my ITBS issue was to stop running completely. Mine was so bad that I had to drop out of a race. I went to PT for a bit and did absolutely NO running for 3 months. I kept my fitness level up by cross training, and when I was finally able to run…
  • Wineglass Full Marathon on Sep 30! Excited! Dallas Full Marathon - Dec 9 DRC Half - Nov 4 Bandera Ultra 50k - Jan 12 RNR New Orleans Full - Feb 24
  • Get your thyroid checked if you managed to get yourself to 170+ pounds and not be able to eat 1200 calories. Something else must be wrong. Ditto to what jeme3 said.
  • Everyone has different motivation. Yours is obviously external, and you need people to notice and you need the attention/validation. Nothin' wrong with that. I used to not understand that, as I'm totally the opposite. I would just tell you to do things for you, and not worry so much about what people think, because in the…
  • ITBS sucks!!! Yes, it is pretty typical. I think it 's the most common injury in runners. It could be caused by a number of things: overuse, too much too soon (adding on distance or speed waaaaay too quickly), biomechanics, weak hips/glutes/hammies, ill fitting shoes, your stride, etc. Good thing you are seeing your doc -…
  • Take it straight or on the rocks! No need to waste calories on fillers. :drinker:
  • ^^Ditto! Blackstar Definition is one of the best albums of all time. Thieves in the Night has is probably my fave song on it. And ditto to anything by The Roots!
  • The Golden Years!! T.R.O.Y - Pete Rock and CL Smooth Jeru the Damaja - Come Clean A.T.C.Q - Check the Rhime NAS - The World is Yours Showbiz and AG - Soul Clap Black Moon - Who Got Da Props?! Digable Planets - Where I'm From And of course gotta show love for the west coast: Souls of Mischief - 93 til Infinity!…
  • I'm 4'10" and am already at a good weight (103 pounds). I lost 9 since December (9 doesn't sound like much to most people but on me, it is way noticeable!). I am already happy with how I look, so I'm most interested in losing body fat and toning up right now. I'd be curious to see how dropping a few more pounds helps out…
  • It just has to happen. If something is important to you, you make the time for it. Kids, work, school, social life, whatever it is you have... you just make time for it. That's it.
  • Agree with this. Yes, intervals and all the speedwork are great, but if you're a newer runner you'll see huge gains just by running more and building up your aerobic capacity. You'll be surprised at how many miles elite runners put in just to train for a 5k. If you try to increase intensity too much (either speed or…
  • ^^Ditto to McMillan calculator. There are plenty of other calculators/race predictors out there, and you can take most of the pace suggestions with a grain of salt, but I've found McMillan to be sooooo eerily spot on. I learned to slow down my long runs enough to get a good workout in without risking injury, and the tempo…
  • I got a bike in July and started incorporated riding into the mix. I am training for a marathon so I run 5x a week. I tried doing Insanity for a while but it was just too much to handle. Biking is great - sometimes I use it as a recovery workout after a long run. Plus I just love doing it. I also strength train once a week…
  • They were probably cranky from not eating enough.
  • Ahhh, this is exactly why I friended you! I am a fellow small, petite person as well. Didn't have much to lose and didn't want to get into the same mentality of eating less than 1200 to lose weight. I've already lost the weight I've wanted to, slooooowly, without starving myself. Yes, I exercise a lot, but even…
  • Wow! You are an extremely gorgeous girl! You were beautiful heavy, but now people can really see your features! Most importantly, you're healthy now and have persevered through your illness. Good job!
  • CONGRATS! You look amazing!!
  • WOW! You look like a completely different person! GOOD JOB! :drinker:
  • I hear Ojai to Ocean in Cali is a fast net downhill course. I am not sure about scenic, because it runs through some farmland of Oxnard, but it starts in Santa Paula/Ventura. I am originally from Ventura county and want to do this sometime when I go back to visit my parents. Plus it's a small race, and they've gone "green"…
  • Usually I'll do a light run and/or strength train. I try to hydrate well throughout the week. And, I found my new pre-long run fuel: ramen, not the kind you buy packaged at the store, but I found an awesome Japanese hole in the wall that makes really good, authentic stuff. I am not a big starch or carbs person but I'll…
  • Woohoo! I'm running Dallas too! I have done Dallas a few times too but never really started getting serious about improving until last year. I usually don't like putting my goals out there either, but I'll join in this time... helps keep me accountable! :drinker: I set short term goals for myself so they don't seem…
  • OK, your original post said you were hoping for a 2:30 half, which would be an 11:27 race pace. There is a huge difference between that and 2:15. If your aim is going for 2:15 or below, 11:18 is a good training pace. For a first half, I wouldn't be so concerned about time goals, just finishing, but I understand it would be…
