Awesome! Keep it up!

There's always a way to make time, I believe. I'm currently unemployed but even when I was working long hours at my 9-5 job + attending grad school two nights a week, I still put in about 50 miles a week for marathon training. Sometimes I would wake up early, do a doubles day (run in the morning, run during my lunch hour,…

A calorie deficit, whether it be from exercise or eating less, matters for weight loss. Exercise is great for your health - not to mention you'll end up looking more like a sexy b*tch when you have more muscle tone on your body. Plus you can eat more and it's good for your mental health. I personally favored exercise over…

I'd take full-fat cheese and milk over 42 calories any day. Some comfort food ya just can't *kitten* with.
-
 ^^THIS! Unfortunately, I know all too well that it's a cultural thing. As an Asian myself, i had to put up with that sort of crap growing up. It's not just the old school grandmothers and grandfathers, it's also the *kitten* males. They seriously see nothing wrong with talking about your weight. I say you can tell…

I'm a mileage person. The closest to speedwork that I do is a tempo run once a week. I've seen more improvement just by doing this. That may be changing soon though, as I enter my next marathon training cycle.

+1 to Mountains to Beaches in Ventura, CA. Kind of more downhill though. Rock n Roll New Orleans is by far the fastest flattest course I've ever run. Seriously. It's going to be held in January though.
-
Oh, I do like the smaller races for the possibility of placing. I've been able to win in my age group a few times in a few distances. :-)
-
I don't have any preference for the size of the race. What's most important to me is how fast/flat the course is, and what the weather is like, especially if I'm trying to PR. I like the huge ones for the crowd support. Plus the crowds force me to start off slow at the beginning so I can conserve my energy. I don't mind…

Ventura Marathon? I didn't even know there was one! I'm originally from Ventura County (grew up in Oxnard/Camarillo). I did Mountains to Beaches last year - is the course somewhat similar? It's always nice weather in Ventura.
-
Dallas Marathon is this December. Hoping the weather cooperates this year as last year it was canceled (icy conditions). I want redemption! Goal is to PR. Not sure if I can break 4:00 on this course, but I want to come pretty darn close to it. My PR is 4:13.

I love it! I am lucky I have found one of my greatest passions - running. I don't just do it for the physical aspect. I simply just love it. I will keep doing it no matter what size I am. Have been running for over 15 years now. I like other kinds of physical challenges too. It's the most awesome feeling putting mind over…

I haven't made most of my time goals so far. :-( I am hoping the marathon training cycle I'm about to start will help me achieve them. Oh, I did run my first road 50k within the time goal range I wanted. I am not sure if I'll hit that elusive sub 4 marathon this year - got a whole 13 minutes to shave off.
-
Some people just improve faster than others. Miss Hot chick speedy pants runner Victoria is one of those. ????. (Hi!) Anything is possible, Stan. Hell, I'm still chasing that damn sub 4. LOL.
-
Hm. 1400 for a guy of your size sounds pretty low. You could maintain on twice that amount. I'm a small woman and I maintain at 2000 a day.
-
I especially LOVE this. As someone who grew up with body image and self-esteem issues, I let that all go when I started viewing myself as a runner first and viewing my body as a vehicle to achieve my running and fitness goals. Running has done wonders for me mentally, I can't say it enough. I don't define myself by my…

Sometimes life happens and you can't just "not" go to a buffet. Sure, you may not know exactly how food is prepared all the time. But it is good to be mindful of what you're generally eating and what ballpark of intake you're in. One day of not knowing the calorie intake to the "T" is not going to hurt you or reverse any…

Amen to this! I ran Paris Marathon back in the early 2000's. It was my second visit to Paris and running this race had me seeing parts of the city that I would not have thought of visiting on my own. I'm not sure how much the course has changed, but it was great just running outside of the city center. All the cobblestone…

+1 to this. Legumes are a great, healthy, inexpensive way to inject protein and fiber into your diet! Soaking them overnight takes zero effort - just a little planning, but you cut down on the sodium from canned foods. Plus you don't get that canned food flavor that often comes from canned beans. They are like a blank…
-
+1 to simple foil pouches for cooking fish. You can add your own seasonings and pair fresh fish (costs as much as those frozen ones) with something cheap like rice. Seriously, a meal for $4. 15 minutes to make.
-
+1 to this and to the others who have said not to over complicate things. I know it seems like microwaving is so much easier, but so is rubbing spice on meat, chopping a vegetable, etc. PLUS, there is a big difference in how microwaved food tastes vs. fresh food. You're more likely to fully enjoy and be satisfied from a…

Simple. You're wookinpanub in all the wrong places!!

BRAVO!

HOt mama indeed! GO GIRL~!

I know you're going to do what you want anyway, and you usually rock things out, but if it's only a few weeks out of your life? - no biggie. I KNOW how it feels like to not be able to run! It blows! I feel your pain! But it's for the better that you DON'T run. Better to be out for two weeks vs. months!
-
+1 to sonic. And yes, bread is not your enemy. Eat that stuff again in moderation. I find it hard to believe that anyone who has weight to lose will suddenly find it hard to eat enough calories. Do yourself a favor and eat a little bit more. Your body will thank you in the long run.

They all go to my boobies.

I've not run a 50 miler but I can tell you what I wish I knew coming into a technically tough trail 50k. I wish I trained more on trails or something similar. You've got a few trail races under your belt so you know it's a different beast. Oh, and for a 50 miler, I can imagine you're going to need more substantial food.…

Bummer? ???? People should feel free to be proud of their accomplishments. Everyone has a story. Personally, I've never gotta a sticker, but that's just me.

I don't know, I'm one of those who believes that haste makes waste. Yes, it's good to push your boundaries and see what your body is capable of, but it's just plain smart to listen to your body and rest when you need it. It's that whole idea of just jumping in and going hard... people want results yesterday. It's usually…
