Thank you! Lol. Yeah, ya gotta do what works for you. Everyone responds differently to diet and exercise. It's all about what works for your lifestyle.

HAHAHAHHAHAH! Thanks. You're right about being tall. There are pluses and minuses to both sides.

Wow! Thanks everyone. I appreciate the support. I am not saying that what I do will work for everyone. I'm also not trying to make it a contest about how much I eat. I did state that I lost weight at a very small deficit. I am not currently losing at 2000. I've been maintaining my weight, but will have to create a small…

Sometimes I do net a little. Maybe about 1000 cals

Ooops. I'm trying to post pics. Let me work this out.

I completed my first one at the beginning of this year. Was NOT prepared for it at all. If you live in Texas too, you know there aren't many hills to train at. I did the Bandera 50k and it whooooooped my butt. Didn't do enough trail running at all. I want to go back and do it again, with better prep. I will be doing one at…

Agree with a lot of what was stated here. Many people will experience the most gains at the beginning, and as they get faster, it gets harder to shave off even just a few minutes. If you've only been running a year, you've probably still got a lot in you. I have a similar story. I had been running for about 14 years, but…

Right here! I feel like the first 2- 5 miles of most of my runs are brutal! Like, my breathing is labored, my heart is racing, my legs are heavy, and it just feels like a chore putting one foot in front of the other, even though I'm running at a relaxed pace. I've found that in both training and racing, I just don't feel…

I was just gonna say...... Going from 0 to 5 miles 6 times a week is quite a bit. +1 to the C25K, it'll eeeaaaaase you into it. If you try to run this much right now, you may end up hurting yourself, getting burnt out, and hating it.
-
It's possible. A lot of it is dependent on your size and the intensity of your workout. For example, I am 4'10" 103 pounds, and would burn approximately 1000 calories when I run 13 miles (would take me a little under 2 hours or above depending on the type of workout that day). A 6'4" weighing 200+ lbs would probably burn…

I'm a bit shorter than most (4'10") and have been maintaining my weight of 103 pounds for the past year and a half.

^^Agreed! :-) I won't knock the treadmill as I know training can be done on it, but once you've trained through harsh conditions and all the elements you have no control over, you'll be a much stronger runner and racing in ideal conditions will be a piece of cake. Rain, shine, snow, wind, ice... doesn't matter... get out…

Woohooo! Congrats on the PR! And the Big D race is not an easy course - just imagine how much more you'll improve with time and an easier course.

MPW? *** ~50mpw What's your favorite distance? *** Races: marathon. Training: 10 milers Brand of shoes? *** Mizunos and Brooks Indoor or outdoors? *** Outdoors 99% of the time: rain, shine, wind, heat, snow, etc. Music or no music? *** For long training runs, yes. Racing, no. Most hated run? (intervals, tempo, hills, etc)…

 I'm not injured at the moment but boy, I've been there. You don't realize how much running is such a huge presence in your life until it's taken away from you. A few years ago I suffered a nasty ITBS injury that caused me to DNF a marathon and not run for an entire 3 months! It seemed like an eternity! Tears were…

Psh. Ask Fauja Singh, 101 year old marathoner. I want to be that 51 year old butt running in those Nike Ads. Not just to have a fantastic butt, but so I can keep kicking butt in my Golden Years.

Oh, heavens no. It's all relative. Don't compare yourself to others, because just remember - those coworkers of yours running 8-9 minute miles are slow compared to the 6-7 minute mile runners, and even those runners are slower than elite runners... Some people improve quicker than others, depending on a bunch of factors,…

While it personally doesn't work for me, nor do I recommend it, it can be done! I have a few friends who've done the Lazy Man's No Training Plan and they've been able to knock out a sub 4 on their first try. Of course, they were either lucky enough to be naturally athletic or have the biomechanics, or they also…

I have both the foam roller and the Stick. BEST purchase ever! I've used the heck out of my foam roller when I was recovering from an IT Band injury. I just recently purchased the "sprint" stick and it's awesome because it's portable and I can massage away wherever I go. (I bring it to work and massage while sitting in my…

Fellow shortie here  Just wanted to throw out a different perspective. Like a few on here, I didn't drastically cut my calories down to lose weight. I started MFP in late 2011 and lost 9 pounds grossing about 1600 calories a day. I am 4'10" and have maintained my weight of 103 lbs. since Feb 2012. At my heaviest…

^^Ditto. This is how I train as well. Each workout is specific and requires different effort, whether you're going by pace or heart rate. If your goal race pace is around 9:30, and you've run your 10 miler at about a 9 minute pace, you're essentially racing your training runs. There's rhyme, reason, and science behind each…

I have to agree with a lot of what Carson and Scott have said. I can't really add much except for anecdotal advice. I am a very average runner, and the best advice I've ever followed was simply to run more. No one is dismissing track work, tempo work, core strengthening, etc., but even the OP was stating that that didn't…

Awesome! Congrats on your recovery, and returning back to running! As everyone else has suggested, take it slow, err on the side of conservative. I suffered a nasty ITBS injury back in December of 2010. It caused me to DNF a marathon for the first time . and worse, I didn't run for 3 whole months. That is an eternity…

Good luck! I don't know what I can really add but I have my first one next weekend. Honestly, I've been following the same program I've used for my marathon training... I looked at 50k training plans and even just the novice programs are at a mileage that is lower than my regular mileage. I ran a full in December and used…

Thank GOD for posts like this! You look amazing! I am a petite chick on maintenance (2000 calories and don't eat my exercise calories back since this is pretty much my TDEE) and it boggles my mind that females think they'll gain weight on this. Rock on!

I weigh myself every couple of months at the local mall where there is a pay scale. I don't own a scale - never have owned one as long as I've lived on my own. To me, a scale is just a torture device that only tells one part of the overall picture.

I run about 50 miles per week, as I'm usually training for something. I'm trying to slowly build my mileage up though. Most of my runs are at an easy pace. I rarely do speed days unless I'm doing a shorter race, or I throw in a few faster miles into my long runs.
-
It was windy! I can just imagine how hard it was for the full, because that's when the weather really took a turn for the worst. For us half marathoners, we ran against the wind, uphill, for the first half, but luckily ran with the wind on the way back. I was contemplating doing this or DRC Half but this seemed like it…

I agree with everyone on here. I'm by no means an expert, but mainly, you need to find what works for you, and it's usually one of the two schools of thought discussed in this thread. If you have the natural ability, are already athletically gifted or already athletic from some other endurance activities, you may not need…

I'm doing the Dallas full too! :-) Good luck!
