If you get a chance, read "Clean Eating" by Tosca Reno. Most healthy, common sense diet and lifestyle book I have ever read.

Oh, the things we come up with when we are in college!

Welcome! I will send you a friend request! :flowerforyou:

It does need to be a family thing - to all get healthy together. The best success I have had is when we all agreed NO junk, NO fast food, and now ALL of us get in our workouts. That is a shocker, though - over 1,000 pounds. Wow.

When I was head secretary at an elementary school, we had a list of questions for interviews. I remember one was "How do you handle stress when you leave the workplace?" I think it was designed to see if people deal with it in a healthy or unhealthy way.

I have recently decided to not have any at all. After 2 drinks, my will power is GONE. I will eat whatever is in reach and there is no "record" button working, so I don't even pay attention to what I am eating.

Jim Gaffigan kills me, this on "shampoo": Sham = bad Poo = really bad Shampoo = wash hair with???

I have decided to give up alcohol because I find that I develop an "I don't care what I eat" attitude when I drink. Actually, it's more of a "I WANT TO EAT EVERYTHING I CAN GET MY HANDS ON" attitude. This sort of attitude does not go well with trying to lose weight and get in shape.

Well, because waaaaay back in 2009, my plan was to get fit. And I did it! But now, here it is 2011 and my fitness has unraveled. So now I am back on the wagon, but I have kept friends over the course of the last couple of years and my food diary is all in here with the old moniker, so I don't want to delete my account and…

:drinker: Yay for you!

Congrats on winning, though!

I know! See, if they dangle a carrot (or a gift card) in front of me it makes all the difference!

Did you actually exercise in there, or were you just sitting? Unless you are moving, I wouldn't count it. It can have other benefits, but I don't think calorie burning is one of them.
-
Ditto! If you exercise for 30 minutes, you will be so glad you did it. But if you don't do it, you will be bummed. Glad > Bummed.

I steam broccoli and sprinkle a bit of parmesan or romano. For green beans, I steam them and then toss them with pine nuts that I brown in some Pam in a pan. Other veggies are great roasted and now that summer is almost here, on the grill is always a great way to go. I also tend to cook enough at dinner to save some for…

Not really odd, but it can be dangerous. Sometimes asking medical questions will let people know if they really should go to a doctor or if they are over-reacting. The problem is when they don't have the common sense to follow up with a REAL doc before acting on something potentially hazardous. I ask friends medical…

I will add you! I just re-committed to this yesterday. I'll be on here before and after work. During work hours, the computer police don't like me on here.

My gym has a new program that starts tomorrow. You get a "Passport" and for every group class you attend, they stamp it. You try to get 15 stamps and at the end of June, you turn it in for a chance to win a prize. (I REALLY want the gift card to Target!) So, this will be a great motivator for me to go to the gym. So, for…

Great work! Congratulations!

I do not garden, because apparently *I* have an EXTREMELY brown thumb. My neighbors ask me to touch a plant if they want it killed so they can yank it out easier.

I just re-dedicated myself to this site TODAY! You can do this, too! Best of luck to you!
-
Yay! Good luck to you, too!
-
Thank you everyone!

I have found that my body gets used to it and so it becomes less challenging. I also tend to "burn out" on exercise if I do the same thing every day.
-
Thank you!

If you are working with a personal trainer, ask them to guide you on what/how much/when to eat. Sometimes it depends on the exercises they are having you do.
-
Thank you, this is very inspiring.
-
Go get some exercise!

Think of the end result! Strength training has such health benefits! Muscle at rest burns more calories than fat at rest, so building some muscle increases your metabolism. Yoga does tone up and increases flexibility, so either one is good. Try doing one day a week of strength training and one of yoga. I always do the…
