EVERYONE is different and while TDEE-20% is a pretty good estimate it is NOT always accurate. If I ate my TDEE as calculated I GAIN!! You have to get to know YOURSELF and then work with it. You can increase your overall calorie building capability with strength or resistance training. Lean muscle mass=calorie burning…

Not much....wish they would get smaller but they dont.

Some good advise there. I am a nutritionist and that is a really good start. You might be able to speed up your weight loss with planned activity. You can also try alternating your TDEE -20 with TDEE-25%. If you come under a little bit by not eating back your calories from exercise and alternate the total you will not…

It is never easy to recover from verbal abuse and YES your ex calling you fat at any size is abusive. Kudos for leaving him. You are the same height as me. I am shooting for 143. You need to find the place that works for YOU. Take some time for meditation and ask yourself why you are doing this really. Listen to your inner…

All true. As a nutritionist I see the struggles and have my own but it all boils down to the science. Everyone is different too. There is no blanket statement that can be said about how to achieve your goals. The best result is the one that is derived from a lifestyle change and not a diet. Re-wire how we approach these…

She is talking about a calorie deficit. It takes a deficit of 3500 calories to lose a pound. More importantly, muscle is the furnace of our calorie burning capability. The more lean muscle mass you have, the more efficient calorie burner your body becomes. If you are still in your child bearing years then this is the most…

Yes, this is my experience as well.

1 pound a week has been my experience. I have faltered only when I ate junk I knew I shouldnt have. Go to the 5:2 boards for more like minded folks.
-
Intermittent calorie restriction or "fast" works too. Check out 5:2. Eat more to weigh less doesn't work for everyone.
-
There is no one best way. TDEE-20% and eat back your excercise. For me that is near 1200. I am STRONG and I have ENERGY because I eat adequate protein and feel AMAZING. If I average 1400 + I gain. Do what is right for you. Eat clean, Move, Breath.

Callibrated wine glass??? I need one of those!! Scale is a must have. No doubt.
-
There are so many factors that could affect that. You may not be eating enough, shoot for your TDEE-20% and eat back some of those excercise calories. Drink half your body weight in ounces (water). Note that you might gain some dense muscle mass which will appear on the scale as a gain but ultimatly help you slim down.

5:2 broke my plateau.Watch the documentary Eat, Fast and live longer. Amazing. On feast days I eat TDEE- 20%. Its working after a 7 month plateau
-
5:2 works. Once you establish it, do TDEE-20% on your feast days. It works. Broke my plateau and I am SO grateful!!
-
I love it! congratulations. I have been doing 5:2 for about 5 weeks. I have lost a few pounds and inches but more than that! I feel awesome on it and it's sustainable. Isnt that what it is all about!! Kudos!!
-
I just dont see it as reality. I have been on MFp long enough to have tried 1400, 1500 and higher. It doesnt work. My TDEE is 1798 and I sat at 500 below that for 7 months and lost nothing. (Net calories). 8300 calories a week and I lost a half pound. I excercise and eat protein and no sugar and light resistance training…
-
5:2 has really helped me to break through the plateau. It took however, me reducing my calories to 7000 a week! (Net). Not kidding. At 8500 I was stuck and anything over that I gained back and forth so the "youre not eating enough" rationale is out the window. If I go over in wine on a saturday or Friday night I dont sweat…

So funny to read since I struggle with the same dilemma's! Vodka is the lowest calories but I prefer wine and yes, I drink the whole bottle. Make smart food choices leading up but dont go out hungry. You will be starving and the alcohol will affect your decisions afterward. Also, Since fat buring requires the livers full…

Well Steinbok, I am a nutritionist...of traditional nutrition education. What I have learned is that I cant eat things that Atkins discourages. I just cant. Even in moderation I gain. I have used moderation and calorie counting with whole grain, fruits vegetables and eating based on meeting all of my nutritional needs and…

Remember: Break-the-fast. Breakfast looks like what YOU need it to but its more important to break the fast. Carbohydrates nourish your nervous system and your brain. Your body has been using energy to keep you alive so its important to get it refueled. The brain needs about 20 grams of glucose at all times to work at…

I would like to see the research on this however....if all you have is 4 minutes, then DO the workout!! It's better than nothing!!!

I order off the appetizer menu when possible. Last night in an upscale italian bistro I had blackened seafood which was calamari, shrimp, scallops sauteed with fresh tomato and while bean. I had 3 glasses of sauvignon blanc and still made it under 1200 calories for the day. My fav is escarole and bean. It always comes in a…
