  • Yes Atkins was a bit of a "fad" diet in the 90's but that's because people treated it like a diet and not a lifestyle. If you are doing the low carb/keto/paleo "diet" you are changing your life and know you have to keep up with it forever. Of course if you eat low calorie, and "diet" for a while and then go back to what…

  • If it's anything like a regular fitbit, it will probably set off the metal detectors, so just make sure its not on you while you go through security. Just throw it in your bag while you're waiting. I have a body media fit, which is about the same size and and amount of electronics and I just take it off when I go through…
  • If you're a student at a relatively big university you should be able to find some sort of gym to work out in. I'm at school and I only use the fitness rooms here. They're crowded, but it works.
  • I don't think there's any exercise regimen that is better for PCOS, so I just try to get myself into the gym at least 4 times a week. As for diet, I try to eat less carbs and sugar, since those affect glucose and all that stuff. It's worked pretty well for me so far... I was able to lose 50 lbs a year ago, and now I've…
  • Chewing gum always made me hungrier... I guess my stomach thought I was getting some food since I was chewing. Now, I found out I'm allergic to something called Balsam of Peru, which is used to flavor gum, toothpaste and other minty things so no more gum for me (I even have to use that weird kid toothpaste that's…
  • You might want to at least weight yourself initially so that the calorie count is correct and the BMR is calculated correctly. After that I would weight yourself at least once a month. As you lose weight your BMR (and subsequently your calorie count) will change, so its a good idea to weigh yourself every now and then.
  • Just a note to people thinking about buying one, go for the BodyMedia Fit. Its the exact same device without the Biggest Loser branding and so its usually atou 50 bucks cheaper. If you look at the actual device, the BodyBugg actually says BodyMedia on it! I love mine. And the people asking about how well it calculates…
  • Why not both? I get tired of eating the same thing day in and day, so I switch it up. Just make sure you get a good cut of meat and don't eat the fatty parts. and I love love love pulled pork!
  • I love love love love TJs! Sadly I live in PA, so we can't get wine there. But I love all of their other food. Just watch out, their Mac n Cheese is TO DIE FOR. Too bad its about 700 cal/box, but every now and then I treat myself and it sooooo worth it!
  • Ask them to do it with you! you'd be surprised how many people want to get in shape and avoid the "Freshman 15". They might even be good accountability partners. At least mention it and if they don't mind, then go for it in your own room
  • While fiber is good for you, too much can lead to bloating, gas and constipation (basically the same symptoms if you don't have enough) Also I have read that women don't need as much fiber as men
  • Same here. I've lost 40 lbs but my stomach looks like a deflated balloon. and there's a lot of extra stuff hangingdown... I was wondering if anyone here had one and then had kids, did it get messed up after kids?
  • I think your first mistake was seeing and talking to a nurse practitioner instead of your doctor. Yes nurses are knowledgable, but a doctor will know more and usually specializes in treatment, especially an OB GYN. I've been on metformin for almost two years and I've managed to lose 40 lbs. It was slower going, but it was…
  • This got much better IMO since Moffat took over as head writer from Davies. All of Davies' season finales were "OMG the universe is going to end, the Doctor must save everythign!". Moffat is playing the long game (starting back at Silence in the Library and the introduction of River). And he leaves things much more open…

  • I think people need to calm down on the Netflix hate. They provide a great product for a really reasonable price. They had to raise their prices because the studios are charging them ridiculous amounts in order to keep their contracts. It's not a case of Netflix being bad at negotiating, its a case of the studios realizing…
  • Be careful if you have flat feet or no arches. I have extremely flat feet (to the point where my ankles kinda turn in) and it would be a really bad idea for me to wear them, because there is NO support. Edit: Also I've heard that shin splints can come from running on hard surfaces like concrete. Have you tried running on a…
  • I've used both loseit and MFP and I found that the loseit numbers were inflated for me personally*. I think loseit uses a different calculation for your BMR and assumes that everyone is doing a certain base amount of exercising (like walking, cleaning etc), while MFP uses a baseline of absolutely no exercise (like you laid…
  • Or 5lbs of fat for that matter either. The culprit is probably just water.
  • The results of too much fiber is actually similar to the symptoms of not having enough fiber. Bloating, gas and constipation. Remember moderation is key to everything!
  • I used to take cinnamon every morning... And then I found out I'm allergic to Balsam of Peru and since its used to make cinnamon it could be causing my exczema... I was sad when I found out because I love that spicy taste!
  • Going on Metformin and Yaz really helped with my acne issues and I'm pretty sure it helped me to lose my first 40 lbs. Now I feel like I'm completely stalled and I'm not sure what to do.
  • This might sound odd, but sometimes my jeans stretch out after I've worn them for a long time (usually over a year) and it especially happens when the jeans are that stretchy denim. You might have stretched them out while you were bigger and now that you've lost weight, they're much looser. Just keep at it! I've heard that…

  • It's funny you're all mentioning popcorn, last night I found something online to make popcorn in a brown paper bag in the microwave with no oil. I had been trying to make popcorn on the stove and for some reason it came out a little stale tasting. But last night I used an old panera bag and put a tablespoon or two in and…
