I have two friends that are super harsh. Basically told me that I will never slim down with weight training and I am wasting my time. I try to just shake it off and remind myself that no one knows everything and that they aren't trying to hurt my feelings or anything. You could also just say "I don't really want to hear it"

I have the same problem. What I've been trying to do is make sure I eat really well during the day so I have more wiggle room at night. Also I've had to limit my number of drinks because that can just get out of control! Also, exercise earlier in the day so you have more calories to work with.

gaining weight isn't really a side effect if you are still watching what you eat. Cigarettes are appetite suppressors so if you are not watching what you eat, you will eat more.

At first i was super sore, so maybe space it out if you are in a lot of pain. Later it was fine and I wasn't sore by the time it was the next lifting day. Make sure to listen to your body.
